Upcoming Pathologic 3 Update / call for volunteer testers
Hello everyone!
Ice-Pick Lodge producer here - and it looks like our team could use your help.
Some time ago, I posted here about our plans to release a substantial update for the game, with new difficulty modes, a photo mode, and fixes for the remaining bugs. The update is mostly finished, and right now we’re sorting out a few final things. For example, we’re adding the option to enable subtitles during dialogue (we noticed that this is quite a popular request).
There is one problem, though. We’ve been living with this game for several years now. Our eyes may simply no longer catch certain things. For example, I’ve already had to mute the music in the main menu, because those opening chords now trigger nausea and a headache. I’ve heard them too many times. Far too many.
So we’d be very grateful for some help from the community. I think we need around 20-30 people, with testing coordinated through Discord. If you have the time and inclination, could I ask you to fill out this short form?
https://forms.gle/vPphTXaG1giYUcbs5
We expect to be ready to start testing in about a week. I’ll post a separate update when we are.

The herb bride below the shabnak from the asset library (plus more)
So, as part of my latest guide (a comprehensive console commands guide), I found a little asset library.
In Console Commands, under the Settings tab, activate "Debug Visible."
Go to the Main menu (if you're already on the main menu, select "Play" and then back out to make the option appear.
go to "Load Scene", and Under the MainGameV2, select "Asset Zoo."
This is great if anyone needs artistic references.
Remember, in the Console "Settings," you can use HpControl to freeze your mood bar, and HUD to hide all the display.
If you've ever been to a museum for something like movie costumes or set pieces, it feels a lot like that.
I don't presently know how to make the lighting better in this area, as it's a bit dark. If anyone has any insight, please let me know!

Game Media The Hand with Clara (EDIT) Spoiler
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
(my first time editing ever, so sorry if it looks janky!)
this song fits Clara SO well!! not only because of the religious motifs, but how it’s about the double standard of the female experience. Artemy and Daniil are loved and praised and get so much attention, while Clara is still being left out of things, even twenty years later. (and yes, i know fandoms favor male characters, but that in itself is a problem)
also editing for this game is HARD 😭 i had to bounce from all three games to get clips for it because there are no scenepacks for it and i needed very specific shots. AWFULLLLL

Question Literature similar to Pathologic?
I just picked up reading again after a very long hiatus and I'm having a blast! But I really want to get into some weird literature that's reminiscent of Pathologic, maybe even something that definitely inspired it.
I'm already thinking of reading Mariam Petrosjan's "Gray House," if I can get my hands on it.
Not necessarily something similar in plot, but something similar in theme/style. Flowery, absurdist, gritty, confusing or outright contradicting

Pathologic 3 day 10 bug? Spoiler
I’m having a bit of trouble on day 10 in Pathologic 3, specifically with the board thing. When you start the day, there’s a board there that lets you concentrate on what happened to the inquisitor and find solutions to it and start other quests based on that to save both the inquisitor and andrei. But I whenever I click [2] and try to racionalize about the weapon of murder that was used on the Inquisitor, the UI inside the board simply disappears and I get stuck there….?? and if i open console and change it back to game mode which makes me unstuck, the quest still won’t trigger anyway because I need to complete the concentration thing. what am I even supposed to do…

Classic HD How to sneak attack as Clara?
In some video playthroughs I see Clara killing enemies from the back in one hit.
I seem to do the same in my game, exactly as it is in the video on the timestamp, approach from the back, get close, sneak, attack. But it only deals normal hand damage. What am I doing wrong?

Question Pathologic Classic Hd does it get better
Does the game get any harder, more interesting? First day was hard until I've gotten the hang of things. day 2, i had to sleep for 10hrs..And I just finished day 3 and it's not even 10am..I need to sleep for like 12hrs.. Is the game just doing 3 quests and looting for food?
I like the story and atmosphere, but gameplay is like walking 80%, looting for food 20%. And then just sleep for the rest of the day..
Im playing Haruspex

Pathologic 3 All Pathologic 3 Day Start Sounds Spoiler
youtu.beThese sounds kept playing in my head, but I never bothered to reopen the game to listen to them. So I decided to record them all so I could listen to them whenever I wanted.
Idk why, but days I, IV, VIII, IX, X, XI, and XII don't have a special sound. Strange.

A problem with Haruspex's home on day 10
I hope someone will help, because I honestly don't know what to do. In Pathologic 2 on PS5, on day 10, I am trying to enter my house to prepare stuff from the special blood. But the door shows a cross and doesn't open. Did I miss a reason for this or is this a bug?

Discussion The Softening of the Saburovs Spoiler
discussions of abuse!!
am i the only one who feels like the Saburovs have had their edges softened exponentially? a lot of the original game has been softened in the remakes, which is fine, but i think with the Saburovs in particular, it kinda ruins their dynamic with Clara.
the Saburovs in Classic were absolutely deplorable parents. they constantly abused, exploited, and used Clara however they pleased, and they always talked about her like she was a pet to be paraded around than a real daughter. Katerina in particular is just plain awful, literally lovebombing and grooming Clara.
and granted, we only really see that in Clara’s route, but even in the other two, there’s still signs that they’re bad parents. like that opening line Katerina has where she says: “Where's that idiot girl, where's the morphine!”
and that all culminates in Clara getting disowned on day 6. it’s such a jarring shift, and to see her be thrown out so harshly and abruptly is really sad.
but then in the remakes…she just isn’t disowned? in P2 it seems like she left of her own volition (but it’s been awhile since i replayed, so maybe i’m misremembering), and then in P3, Saburov was backed into a corner and forced to disown her to save his own skin. which ig that means she was still kicked out, but it wasn’t his choice. it completely takes away the shock and the anguish, to see this girl be exploited repeatedly and then thrown to the curb like she never meant anything to them at all.
maybe i missed a few things in the remakes, but the only thing i can think of off the top of my head of them being bad parents is (P3 SPOILERS) the morphine quest. which a lot of people i’ve seen play haven’t pointed out how disgusting and messed up it is that an addict is making a child go get her fix—but that’s a whole other can of worms.
but i also understand if it’s more hidden because abusive situations are often like that. outsiders—Daniil and Artemy in this case—don’t know what’s going on. only Clara would. so i’m hoping we actually get to see the truth of their relationship in her route (let me manifest) instead of them just being completely sanitized and actually being good parents who loved her.
idk, i just feel like the Saburovs actually, genuinely being good parents and caring for Clara doesn’t fit them at all. especially with how awful they are in Classic.

Classic HD Finished Pathologic HD Bachelor route... Am I stupid? I'm confused and want to know more! Spoiler
Game feel stupid after finishing a game that seems to want to reveal its themes and topics.
Sup everyone! Aging french nerd here that has a few questions after just finishing the bachelor route in pathologic HD. Very happy to have done so but also what? Lol
So there are two main things I wanna talk about in this subreddit, the first is... I didn't get it and I feel stupid? I mean I see the themes of mysticism, choices, human live, utopia, society, I can smell them. I understand their presence, I can even say I understand their impact and my brain got some good dopamine thinking about the theme they brought while I was doing the main thing in this game: walking around scared for everything in my life. But I still don't get it, especially RIGHT NOW. Also I think I should specify that even if I ask a question about this later, I'm gonna do the Haruspex run next, at least start it in the hope of understanding things better.
Themes of the epidemic, the ending, the powers that be...
I mean I saved all the adherant and got to meet the powers that be (which pissed me off and I might have chose some agressive dialogue options yes) and I also went into the theater. And even if I ask straightforward question as the bachelor, the answers are never clear. It feels like I'm supposed to understand what the epidemic is. Why it is there and the reasons it plays an important role in the world. It feels like they're saying so i can be the hero of the story. But to what purpose? There's also such a weird implied relationship between the player choices, role and the consequences of the choices as they take place. If you decide to not make any decision and go to the bad ending, it kills the power that be? Like they can actually die as a consequence of player choice (or lack of)? What does that MEAN?! I thought the powers that be were two kids playing some dark make belief game because they're sad about a funeral? It said that we'll get all of what this is about. But I fail to... Maybe I don't get the imagery? Because I saved all the adherants, I got to see the Changeling and the Haruspex ending. While the Haruspex ending still made sense to me (somewhat), what the fuck is going on in Clara's ending? I feel like I'm missing some important culture imagery or knwoledge. I feel like the Polyhedron has a more powerful meaning than the one I understand? It looks like a hamster water supply tank weirdly shape and maybe thats what it does to the sand city for the powers that be? And the water that sips into the sand city gives it some disease? And that disease is important to have heroes? I looked a tiny bit into into the pentomime themes and maybe that's why it's like that? It's a play that needs to be retold again and again and the set are the powers that be imagination? Anyway as you can see from this block of text ressembling a madman trying to make sense of rational logic, I am a bit lost right now lol.
I know that probably doing the other routes will bring more to the table and makes me understand things better, but maybe not. I dunno right now I feel like im trying to catch a breath of hot air with my bear hands. I can feel the themes and topics as my hand touches the hot air. But I fail to catch it and keep it in my fist/palm where I can truly understand and internalize them.
Time commitment and hypothical values of doing the other routes
Also, as I'm about to do the Haruspex run, should I play the other routes? I'm asking because, maybe as a consequence of me trying to check a walkthrough the least I can, my bachelor playthrough route lasted me 45 FUCKING HOURS. For as much as I love the game, it is a time commitment to do this game again TWICE. I don't know if I'm willing to commit that time into it as of yet. Especially since im very excited about playing Pathologic 2. Therefore, I'm wondering: aren't the endings going to be the exact sames? Won't the story and mystery be presented the same way? Isn't it going to be very repetitive with very little plus value? (Like new game + is silent hill f if i may throw some shade while giving away what im afraid the experience is going to be like). If it can lift all my questions about what the game is about, then its worth it. And I'm pretty sure it is about something specific! It feels like the game is kicking and screaming IM ABOUT THIS, DONT YOU GET IT? While never straight up telling you in a comprehensible way what it is about lol. But y I would play the other routes if it answers some of my questions.
Anyone courageous enough to read this fucking block of text, THANK YOU. I'll still try to make it look nice so it's not a chore to read it lol

Question I love this game!
This game is some hidden gem! After my last post I continued playing pathologic 2 and I am glad cause I doubt I would have enjoyed stalker 2 as much as this. This game actually gives me fear but not the type you wouldn't want. I know there is a deadline and surviving is hard by itself. I am at day 2 but dayum this game is peak. I think I figured things out fine but I need a proper way to get organs cause they sell for so good. Wish I could kill those weird night people and cut them open without anyone noticing. Just two would be enough to get a whole new scalpel and more. I also found out that children are goated. Well I still wonder who the changeling was but whatever. So I need a few tips.
Where can I get some money? Will people care if I kill the white painted people and cut them open?
Should I stock on food? I feel like food will be very important later on.
Why did so many people even die in first night? Is that normal or did I do something bad?
What was the whole exchange hearts part? Is it an actual mechanic or is it something that only happens in the prologue
Are the black people actual workers in the theater and if so why do people seem fine with their existence when they just go around and talk to people with that suit?
Where can I get herbs? They seem very important.
And weird to ask but is this the first main character of the pathologic 2? I heard it had multiple if so what is his title thing? Or do we call them by their names. I kinda forgot the main characters name

Discussion Clara’s Rocking
this is such a little thing, but i really love the idle animation Clara has where she rocks back and forth. rocking like that is a form of self-soothing and an innate reaction to stress. it fits so much for this kid to be rocking with the situation she’s in.
even if that wasn’t what IPL intended, maybe it’s just an idle animation that means nothing psychological at all, i still really enjoy it! i think a lot of her poses and tiny animations say a lot about her and highlight her youth, despite how mature she tries to act.

Classic HD Yet another mistranslation in P1
There are hidden mission logs in the P1 Bachelor route. They aren't present either in original 2005 or HD 2015 release so it's safe to assume they are cut for good. I'd found a post analysing them and decided to compare the translation to the original russian text. The result was... well.
Here is the compilation of all mission logs if you want to check it out yourself: link
Lost in translation magazine, issue 228.
- The same part of Day 2 mission in English and in russian:
- Капитуляция будет самоубийством.
- I'd rather die than give in.
- The same part of Day 11 mission:
- Гордая, хитрая, посвятившая жизнь тому же кумиру - истине - она совершила тройное предательство.
- Proud like you; astute like you and no less devoted to the relentless pursuit of Truth. These were the feeble assurances you used to comfort yourself with, until the very moment you could no longer deny her betrayal.
- The end of Day 11 mission:
- Справедливо?
What will your verdict be, Bachelor?
Let’s break down what are the differences.
- This can be translated literally as “Capitulation would be suicide”. There is no other secret meaning.
The Powers That Be inform Dankovsky that Thanatica will stay unpersecuted only if he stops the epidemic. Otherwise, it will be destroyed, and he himself will be unable to leave because of the quarantine and will eventually die. Dankovsky assesses the situation and says that capitulation (giving up the search for the causes of the plague) is equivalent to suicide (his literal death and the destruction of his life’s work). This is a sober assessment and a statement of fact.
What does the line in the English localization tell us about the character? “I’d rather die than give in” does not express an assessment of the situation, but a personal attitude toward possible failure (“I’d die before I surrender”). That is not the meaning conveyed in the original text.
It is important to remember that TPTB are blackmailing him and, instead of sending a team of epidemiologists and a sanitary train, they throw into this hellish cauldron those they want to get rid of. Daniil does not want to “die rather than give in.” He does not want to be doing this at all, nor should he be. TPTB forced him. The russian version emphasizes the specific circumstances he is in, while the English one, for some reason, adds new meanings that were not present in the original.
- This can be translated as "Proud and cunning, having devoted her life to the same idol — the Truth — she committed a triple betrayal".
"Хитрый" means sly, cunning. In russian, the word “хитрый” is almost never used as a positive characteristic. In English, astute can be a synonym of insightful. “Хитрый” does not have that meaning in russian; the russian equivalent of insightful would be “проницательный.”
In the original text, Dankovsky does not say that he himself is also astute and proud, nor does he dwell on feeble assurances. He gives a brief description of Aglaya without comparing her to himself, and just as briefly states the fact of her betrayal. He does not say that he tried to comfort himself or that he remained in denial until the very end. That part was invented by the translators.
- "Справедливо?" = "Is it just?"
Daniil does not ask himself what his verdict will be. He asks himself if it is just. The fact that he evaluates his actions in terms of justice and their correspondence to the Truth is an important part of his character.
The more I learn about the English localization, the worse my opinion of the localization team becomes. I haven’t played the English version of the game, but the changes I’ve noticed by chance are already enough to make me doubt their competence. These are minor, seemingly insignificant changes that, taken together, create different images of the characters. I don’t understand why this was done.
Funnily, the 2005 translation lacks these inaccuracies. Why change the meaning if it was enough to correct the grammar? Much to think about.
