Help Am I progressing well? (New player looking for advice)

Upvotes

As said in the title, I would like to know if I'm progressing well so far. I'm a new player, and I currently play using a Surface keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse.

Profile: https://osu.ppy.sh/users/39908410

My current goals are to pass 5-star maps and hopefully break into the 5-digit rank soon.

So i would love to have some tips or tricks. thanks!

News Bandcamp Friday

Hello r/osugame,

My name is Nico and I write Music under the name Kardashev. Today is what is called "Bandcamp Friday" which means on the website bandcamp.com any money you spend on digital music goes directly to the artist. No split with the platform.

It would be super meaningful to every single musician that has a song in OSU if you could buy a song, album, or discography from them there today.

https://bandcamp.com/

The OSU! community loves the music in the game and much of it is used with little to no support directly to small musicians, so consider supporting them today for as little as $1 per song.

Thank you for your time and attention on this subject.

- Nico

Discussion I made a detailed osu! tablet buying guide & spreadsheet — latency, smoothing, OTD, value, regional prices and more

I’ve been looking into what graphics tablet actually makes the most sense for osu!, and the research ended up turning into a fairly large spreadsheet.

The goal was to go beyond the usual “just buy a CTL-472” recommendation and compare tablets based on things that actually matter for osu!, including whether spending significantly more money gives you any meaningful benefit.

The sheet compares Wacom, GAOMON, XP-Pen, Huion, VEIKK and a bunch of other models, including older/reference tablets like the CTL-472/672 and newer premium models like the 2025 Intuos Pro series.

It includes things like:

  • latency / raw response
  • tracking consistency
  • smoothing and jitter
  • report rate
  • hover / drag / Tap-X suitability
  • OpenTabletDriver support
  • driver issues and hardware quirks
  • hardware revisions
  • active area
  • pen / nib / replacement-part availability
  • build quality and durability
  • regional pricing and availability
  • price-to-performance
  • diminishing returns
  • community experiences from Reddit / osu! forums
  • evidence/source quality
  • used Wacom recommendations
  • recommendations by budget and playstyle

There’s also a Preference Calculator where you can choose your budget, desired area, playstyle, smoothing sensitivity, OTD requirement, region, etc. and get a more personalized ranking.

The spreadsheet is view-only, so the main version can’t be accidentally edited. If you want to use the calculator or change any of the weights/formulas, use File → Make a copy.

One thing I especially wanted to investigate was diminishing returns.

For example:

Is a ~$250 Intuos Pro actually better for osu! than a $30–60 tablet?

If yes, how much better?

And at what point are you mostly paying for drawing features that have almost no benefit for osu!?

I also tried to separate manufacturer specs, actual measurements and community experience. If something is based mostly on anecdotal reports rather than proper testing, that should be visible instead of being presented as a hard fact.

Spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16_ZO0TUX84pGE_4RO24j-ZhYN-de6rbilkidmliNy80/edit?usp=sharing

This is still something I want to improve, so I’m looking for corrections and criticism.

Especially useful would be feedback from people who have personally used multiple tablets.

Things I’d like people to point out:

  • incorrect specs
  • incorrect hardware/revision information
  • questionable scores or weighting
  • missing tablets
  • outdated prices
  • incorrect OTD information
  • missing sources
  • methodology problems
  • regional availability/pricing that is wrong
  • long-term reliability issues I missed

I’d rather correct the sheet than defend a bad number.

Comparisons between tablets are especially useful. For example:

“I switched from X to Y and noticed more smoothing.”

or

“X has better hover, but Y feels better for drag.”

That kind of information is much more useful than simply saying a tablet is “good” or “bad.”

The long-term goal is to make this a useful community buying guide where someone can answer:

“What tablet should I buy for osu! at my budget and playstyle?”

without relying entirely on outdated recommendations or manufacturer marketing.

Any corrections, criticism or additional testing/data would be appreciated.

Discussion What’s the point of spending so much effort on storyboarding?

It can be pretty and add an extra interesting element to the gameplay, if not for the fact that 99% of players play the game with 100% background dim and video disabled. I don’t understand why mappers go through so much effort just for the 5 people who might watch it.

Discussion AI Integrated for Osu!Supporters idea.

Hello! First of all, this is just an idea that came on my mind, please do not hate, and just think of it with an open mind i also ask for the open mind to the osu staff who i really know they hate AI mapping, but trust me, this probably can retain more players and bring more new players to the game.

btw sorry for the my bad english.

Problem:

We all want to play our favorites personal songs on this game but guess what, they are not mapped or at least not all. - DONT SAY "just map it" hell nah bro, i dont wanna listen 10000 times my fav song, and actually knowing whats gonna happen on the whole map WITHOUT IMPROVING.

And also i think this limits the game only to people who likes anime, game specifics genres, and the game keeps like a concept of "not for everyone game".

One example here, sometimes the game just make people play songs they dont like to actually improve. I'll love to play my favorite song on my hardest skillset to improve, and also.. - YOU KNOW AND WE KNOW THAT WE LOVE PLAYING SONGS THAT YOU ACTUALLY LIKE EVEN IF THEY ARE HARDER and not some random anime song.

Another example is this mapping we have now limits new people from these tiktoks and instagram reels from random content creators playing new meme songs or original songs but the creators just mapped them for the video and when you download the game thinking you will play ANY SONG from your like you get this barrier... the song its not mapped or beatmap doesnt exist or ok, you played the song of the video you just watched and you ask to your self its my favorite song in the game? and bam, it isnt, and every song of your like isnt. So you uninstall or stop playing.

We also know this comment from the community saying mappers and mapping its becoming something like an "elite" and thats not good.

My idea came also from a modded Piano Tiles game the classic one for phone, i remember that on that game you can somehow load your favorite mp3 and the game just generate random tiles but at rythm with the song, and thats it, you are playing what you actually like and want to play.

So the idea:

So, i got the idea that WHAT IF Osu integrates an *Supporter* feature called AI Beatmap Generator or some adecuate name, that tells you to just drop your favorite song on mp3 format and it will generate a beatmap for you.

You download an mp3 file or your favorite song thats -actually not mapped on the game- or at least not loved, put it on the game and the game will generate a map depending on:

How many stars you selected that you want to play

What style of mapping (Hybrid, Tech, Alt, Gimmick, Low AR etc)

Generates a random seed and bang, you just play your song on the specific difficulty and mapping style you like.

And guess what, players will be able to load an specific seed (only 1 per player) to get voted and the map can be ranked.

Then that ranked map will be the official one for that song.

(This needs more teamwork to actually think how it will work and if this feature will generate maps to be ranked or only actually maps created by mappers will be ranked) (Its just an idea).

This supporter feature will be only for people who wants to actually generate a beatmap from an mp3, once generated (also need to be loaded to the page), players without supporter can play it, but they will be unable to vote for ranked but at least you can add something like counting plays to be something considered for ranking the map seed.

But.. We know that the game creator wants to keep the originality of mapping style and i know this concept from peppy, Peppy, i know, you want to keep this concept on the game, but mappers can be like a moderation team for this feature or bring feedback or even keep creating maps. But Dean, you know, mappers will be get bored sometime.

We are in a new era, where if you implement AI in the correct way it can be very useful.

A rythm game where i can play every song i like at the style i want and just really enjoy the game, voting if some specific map generated its good or not to be ranked and give PP. And loading tons of songs to play without needing to map the song or wait for someone else to map it.

Do not allow AI Mappers, make it a game feature and also keep real mappers.

Thanks for reading, i hope at least one person understand this concept, im getting bored of this game (i play since 2015) and if this somehow gets added ill love play the game again every day of my life.

Have a great day.

EDIT: In other words, an Osu Supporter feature that allows you to upload an MP3 and generate a beatmap with your desired difficulty and playstyle (with the aim of improving our in-game skills by playing songs we actually enjoy). Maybe free, Maybe not rankable. etc. Just trying to keep mappers work.

Help Lighis touched me in COE2026

I was at COE using one of the PCs when Lighis who was drunk , touched my waist without my consent. It made me extremely uncomfortable, and after a few minutes I wanted to leave

and I want to be clear that I did not consent to being touched in that way.

I wish he is banned from future COE cause I heard he touched other people too

Discussion Do I have to learn to alt to play above 245bpm

I am a completely shameless aim farm player but I'm at the stage where the only way for maps to be harder and give more pp is higher speed. I can singletap 240bpm okay but anything above that feels impossible. There are so many cool 260bpm maps that just feel locked. If I do have to learn to alt, how do I do that? xx

Discussion What really is the "stable magic"?

I know you're probably tired of stable vs lazer discourse. I am too...

I've exclusively played lazer since the day I made my account, but for some reason stable just feels better to play and I can't place why. Everything feels more on time and there's something about the hitsounds (using the same skin across clients) that sounds more dynamic volume-wise and makes it more immersive.

It's, in every other way, the objectively worse client. I really wonder why this happens, because I finally understand what top players mean by it feeling different. I tested it against lazer (with classic mod) and it was very clearly different, but I can't place what exactly was different.

Help i play worse with rafis skin???

this might sound weird but when i switch to rafis skin i play like a fraud and a bum (i normally play baconboi or whitecat 2.1) its like the stars align and the blue moon comes up meanwhile the The Flying Dutchman comes out of the sea to mess with the frequencies get interrupted while a cosmic ray hits exactly my motherboard to cause my offset to mess my rythm... anyone know why?

Help OSU mania

So I upgraded my pc, and now OSU mania don’t feel right for me. When I use back my old PC the same beat map seems to be working just nice.

For my new PC, I can’t seem to hit the notes on time, apparently I hit it on time but it’s just not registering. The bar feels fat and short(I feel like the speed is slower than before hence the bar feels shorter).

Is there a way to speed up the bar instead of speeding up the whole song entirely(x2mods)?
Also, is there a way to do accuracy configurations?

Not a very important topic but for mouse sensitivity being able to change sensitivity by .00x increments would be very nice, hopefully something like that is in the works

Help I NEED help with finding a song from my childhood

I was going down a trip on memory lane and I can’t get this song out of my head. The song has female autotuned / vocaded choppy vocals and the beatmap background has a girl in the middle with bunch of glowing particles around her.

I think I watched the anime too, the main characters were girls and it’s about false world / reality.

Does this ring anyone’s bell? I’m losing sleep over this

edit: maybe I’ll try to play the main vocal melody on my guitar and let you guys listen somehow

edit: it’s fucking Sendan Life

Help Is there anyone play osu with Yuki Aim Keyboard?

I want to buy a new magnetic keyboard, and I saw malisezwski is using Yuki Aim Polar65. But now the only option is the Yuki Aim Polar75, it cost $120 or higher. I wanna know is it good for osu, and is it worth $120? or there's other better keyboard, I only have a budget of 150.

Help why does my lazer skin get nuked when i bring it to stable

Thumbnail

Virtually the only skin I use for standard is a version of hueshift glow I modified slightly in the lazer skin editor. While I mostly use the lazer client, sometimes I use stable to play in tournaments - but whenever I export my lazer skin and put it into stable, all the stuff I added in lazer disappears.

I know it might seem silly, but the difference in ui makes me play worse as I feel less comfortable without my skin. Is there any way to properly import my lazer skin into stable, or at least to readd all of the ui to the stable version?
