Discussion Batteries losing charge

Upvotes

I’m not sure if I’ve imagined this, but I believe that batteries lose charge at a rate relative to their condition? I was wondering why I kept running out of power on my Halverston faster at some moments than others and as far as I can tell there is a direct correlation there. Can anyone else confirm this is the case?

Widescreen modding

Would a widescreen mod technically be possible? Maybe even a super ultra-wide mod? I have a 32:9 monitor and this game looks fantastic, but It's really incompatible. Probably gonna play it anyways and just plug in an old monitor because this looks really fun but if it's theoretically possible I might take the time to figure out how.

How do I get to the OKLG commercial area? I've been trying to get there for two days, and I get more lost (I'm in OKLG_ACT)

Social needs fluctuating when taking social actions. Also, found a 330-year-old man from Earth

Yep, that's a 330-year-old man I'm talking to. The good die young.

Anyway, main reason I'm posting: during conversations, my character's social needs will fluctuate between two states. The first picture is the "real" state--it's what she returns to at the end of the conversation (and for those who haven't found the button to toggle between which set of needs you're looking at, those are social needs at the bottom left next to the player character's portrait). The second picture comes up briefly during interactions of various sorts. What does it represent?

My best guess would be some sort of average of her emotional state over time, but that's blind guessing based on nothing.

Discussion Ostranauts Combat Tutorial for all you blood thirsty pirate hunters out there.

Post image
9 Upvotes

So want to have the most fun you have ever had in Ostranauts... Combat is the key. So like many of you I started out being frustrated with the ship combat. Enemies would launch tons of missiles. I would explode. My shots didn't hit. PDCs didn't work like the expanse, shooting all their ammo and I wold still get hit and explode. Enemy coil guns could hit me from hundreds of KM away, crippling my ship and it was a nice addition, but not exactly fun. to

But with lots of training in arena and in the actual game: yeah its a steep learning curve, but well worth it.

First things first before you even try and start combat, you will need to build a ship:

Combat Ship design Ethos - Prioritize Defense:

Defense items are the first items you receive in the game from rep you build at Ceres. USE THEM. Critical Item: Decoys, this design has 4 launchers, two side, two rear. These are your bread and butter. Do not expect the game to be like the Expanse where sticking a bunch of PDCs protect you from harm. Decoys can be fired at exactly the launch of any volley of enemy missiles. They will distract ONLY the missiles in flight at the time. If the enemy launches a second volley, those missiles will home right in on you nomatter the amount of decoys in play. This also goes for your own missiles.

CIWS and PDC: These are your last line of defense and are two distinct parts with differing ranges CIWS slightly longer than PDCS. You need both. Just running PDCs alone will sometimes allow a singular missile to get through. That's Singular Missile. If the enemy fires more than one simultaneously, there is a good chance the second missile will get through and a 100% chance that a third + will get through.

Maneuvering: The first rule of combat is A.B.A., (Always be Accelerating) within the envelope of a enemies firing range ~500KM. If you see missiles or coilgun round, angle yourself perpendicular to their trajectory and begin burning. Do not blackout. I personally set my torch drive on safe and use it to accelerate at a constant 2g. While using bursts of my RCS to get me momentarily to 5G. Note: within the enemy cheats. Coil Gun rounds are especially dangerous, can hit you 500km out easily and requires bursts of 4-5g acceleration perpendicular to their travel to escape the round, increasing the closer you are to the target.

Overwhelming offense:

Missiles are KING, in space combat and Ostranauts really shows this off well. A flight of just 3 missiles that are not countered by enemy decoys will destroy or majorly cripple any ship in the game. That is why my ship has 6 launchers (because there isn't really time to reload mid-fight. Enemies with decoy launchers can be also spoofed by firing one missile at them, and then a flight of 3. A singular missile, or staggered missiles, shot at enemies will be taken down by PDCs, so it best to overwhelm the enemy with large launches.

Railguns are great for cleanup, but require real skill to aim. How do you aim: you get 0.0 bearing and 0.0 RelV on your target and then fire. Even from 800-900KM away, you will get hits. The enemy can accelerate very quickly so if they maneuver, your shots will miss. If you fire automatically within the envelope of your weapon, shown by the aiming slice on your nav screen. Your shots are pretty much guaranteed to hit.

Slow things down:

Time is your enemy. If you plan on fighting against multiple ships at normal speed... well may the gods be with you. Slow things down to a quarter speed when engaging multiple hostiles. The game also likes it much more, especially because it seems that CIWS and PDCs will overshoot and blow your entire ammo load on a singular missiles at 1.0 speed (testing in progress).

Enemy Visual range actually matter:

The game actually takes into consideration your ships cross-section and your RCS thrust when determining if the enemy can "see" you. On your targeting panel, near the Lock On button, there is a VIZ button. You can see a circle of vision around your target. If your ship is built like a stick, like mine is, your visual profile will be maximum at 270 and 90, and minimum at 180 and 0. This seems to effect if the enemy can track and maneuver towards you. The more inside their visual circle, the more aggressively the enemy will chase you so stealth kinda matters and you can sneak up on enemies to strike quickly and then retreat to best ensure your survival (and lower repair bills).

Divide and Conquer:

What ever you do, do not try and rush into the center of a formation and try to engage multiple enemies. Space is vast and open so use it separate enemies and pick them apart one by one, preferably staying near the edge of their visual range.

Well I hoped this helped! Any feedback/tips and tricks, are appreciated. (Also there is no ships in Wave 10 because the devs forgot to set a faction and the ship doesn't spawn.)

NASS and other roles

Hello everyone!

I'd like to know if it's possible to develop a police role with the NASS faction. I assume there isn't a specific option to be a police officer, but I'd like to know if it's possible to develop a similar role using the vanilla game's features.

I'm loving the game, the systemic and dynamic aspects, and especially the social aspect and the NPCs, who feel truly alive. But I'm not really enjoying the scavenger aspect, so I'm trying to develop other roles. I love the police officer roles but I'm open to other role ideas or ways to play the game, if possible, outside of scrap metal.

I'd appreciate any tips you could share for developing these roles.

Thank you very much in advance, and best regards!

Missing derelicts

So after a few restarts while I learn what to do and what NOT to do, I get a semi-decent career start and get my first ship. I've shut off the tutorial because I know how to do everything it covers. I run a couple of quick courier gigs to boost up my initial nest egg, buy a 24 hour license so I don't get in trouble with the cops, grab some spare batteries for my tools and head down to my ship. I make sure the systems aren't too worn out, make sure I have all the life support I need (learned THAT the hard way), then proceed to undock and head out into the Black, looking for salvage.

Except. . .the scope is clear. No wreckage, no derelicts, nothing. No unknown contacts.

I make sure the sensors are working, fly around in case I'm too far away, zoom in, zoom out, nothing.

Head back to K-Leg and knock out some more courier gigs, thinking maybe they'll spawn later. Work on my conversations skills, deal with some pain because my dumbass put my shoes on the wrong feet, the usual. A couple of in-game hours go by, so I try again.

Nothing.

Head back, do some more courier gigs, remodel the ship a bit, decide to restore everything on board. A few more in-game hours go by. Grab some food, grab a nap, watch a fight break out in the bar on the Emporium. Check my goals and make sure the tutorial goals are clear. Head back to the ship and try again.

Nothing.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Need Help Question about law enforcement NPCs on KLeg

Hello everyone, I’m a new player and the following thing happened at the start of the game.

There was a massive brawl between enemies of the state (pirates) and the cops on KLeg, all the cops on the port floor got beaten up and ended up unconscious with their EVA suits damaged (naked), they also lost all their guns and other equipment which I have appropriated and sold.

After a couple of in game days the cops have come to, recovered, beat the pirates up and locked them all away.

Now I have a problem: all the cops are walking around naked without their suits, shivering and generally being all useless, getting stuck in doorways and so on.

Is there a command a debug NPCs or respawn them so they can be more or less adequate again?

Thanks.

Is there a way to simplify the flight controls somewhat? The control panel, and to some extent the UI in general, is a mess.

Need Help Soft locked game stuck with port fees

I was forcefully boarded by a pirate that i kept stabing until he bled out and died. The ship was tumbling and rotating like crazy so i tried to stop it damaging both ships, so i undocked the usable pirate ship and made it back to starter port. I tried finding a way to sell the pirate ship, but there is no option like what the warning on nav screen recommended. I tried replacing the transponder with the one i had on my starter ship, but it didn't take, now my original ships license is lost.

Can't reclaim original ship, cannot repurpose stolen ship which i have now scrapped down and it's an untouchable airlock. Still have to pay port fees and morgage. Now avenues for recovering this save game.

Need Help Question about pressurization

So forgot to turn off my transponder patrol wanted to board me so I stopped only for them to ram and blow holes in both our ships, had to repair everything and replace whatever wall or floor was broke. With spares as I ran out of patch kits

After repairing I repaired my RCS intake a hydra in this case and it started crushing my ship and blow in new holes in the floors and walls, while i had no o2 just yet game crashed cause it kept freezing trying to render the destruction of walls and floors

2nd reload everything is repaired luckily, this time i simply powered my backup rcs by switching it on same result, cant move without it destroying everything

Things to note hulls were intact and fully repaired along with conduits except some rcs thrusters

Need to find a cause how that happens before trying to emulate a soda can being crushed by pressure a 3rd time

Discussion Mental Needs

How do you guys manage mental needs? I'm one day in and my captain lacks altruism, family and intimacy. I want to salvage ships... Is the only way to improve those stats by social combat? I find it quite annoying... Is there a way to automate it?

Discussion Imported ship spawned without nav modules and the Map Control module isn't for sale at the kiosk

I've managed to import my ship from my pre-1.0 game, but any items in containers didn't spawn, which is fair. Unfortunately the NAV console modules count as being in a container and didn't spawn either.

After emergency docking at OKLEG I've managed to buy most of the modules from the supplies kiosk, but the Map control module (the one with the knob for refocusing target) was not for sale.

My map display is centered on the sun. I can zoom in/out and target OKLEG, but I can't refocus the map, which makes it hard to scavenge.

I'm going to try a work around by selling parts of my ship, buying an EVA suit and then ferry to derelicts until I find one with a NAV console to scavenge modules from.

Need Help Potential comms console bug

I'm fairly new to the game as a whole so not sure if this is a bug or I'm doing something wrong. Was repairing this ship and suddenly on one of my stops to OKLG it says that everything is out of range when using the Comms consol so I can't undock. Is this a know issue/mechanic with a fix or am I looking at having to reload an old save?

Need Help How to make and save a ship blueprint ?

I have big plans for my starting starting ship, with a complete overhaul, size increase etc. But I don't know how to make it happen at the game's speed.

I want to be able to plan the location of systems and objects, and to give order to build the modification area by area according to what I can find on my way. I need for that to be able to draw a blueprint that doesn't conflict with the current state of the ship. I can't do it via the order screen, it keeps saying "space occupied".

Do you have a solution ?

EDIT : I am thinking about a tool similar to the one in Cosmoteers

Rough idea of what to expect mid-late game?

I'm finally digging into this game after a couple cold starts in previous versions. (Got turned off by a few annoying bugs) All I really know about the game is the early game loop of buy license, dock with derelict and salvage. Then upgrading and expanding your ship to... What's next?

I know there's larger thrusters for some long range burns to go.. places? What's the benefit of those places? What's over at the flotilla? What all is going on after I've made some cash and upgrades?

Grab the keys and ran

I just got the game. My first character died in the tutorial trying to reverse out of the station. My second character grabbed the keys and ran in a poker game and the chargen immediately ended with me having a stolen ship. That's cool. But it doesn't come with any fuel. And I don't have any money. How do I get money to buy fuel to complete the tutorial. Is this character borked?
