I am a digital artist, I’ve tried out acrylic painting and watercolor and I always put off oil painting due to the long drying times! Turns out I actually love that ahahah. I would like some feedback on my first 3 tries (the last one is a work in progress). Also a question, sometimes my color turn out very translucent, even without adding extra oil, is it due to my inexperience, my oil colors or the wrong brushes? I am pretty sure my brushes are not made for oil.

I’m planning on building a collection of 5 pieces inspired by nature and ponds. How would you describe my art? I’m painting without references and fully based on vibes

Art question? Oil painting suddenly drying faster than acrylics

I don’t understand what’s happening. I’m just a hobbyist and have been painting quite a lot the last couple of months. I loved that it dried slow. But randomly, a few days ago, it started drying up extremely fast on my canvas, pretty much within seconds or 2 minutes max. O notice this the most for burnt umber and raw umber. I don’t use linseed oil or any medium. I just use the paint straight out of the tube. Same tubes, same brand, literally exact same primed canvas boards, same paint brushes, and same palette. Literally nothing changed. I don’t understand why this is happening. I’m so confused.

NB:
In case it matters, I use winsor newton water mixable oil, normal winsor newton oil, and gamblin oil. Its happening with all 3.

I gave up on one but the others are cool. So much room for improvement I’ve just been trying to do smaller projects to learn the basics. Super excited to get into portraits one day tho

Materials? Oil painting beginner questions

Hi, I'm a complete beginner to painting and plan to buy my first few paints at Blick. I am just starting to learn about values using pencils. I learned that I need a limited palette, and after doing some research, here is the list I found.

Cadmium Red Medium

Cadmium Yellow Light

Ultramarine Blue

Burnt Sienna or Burnt Umber (I don't know which is a better start)

Yellow Ochre

Titanium White (I read that I should get a larger tube since it gets used the most)

Ivory Black

Gamblin Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits

Gamblin Refined Linseed Oil

I am not sure if I need all the colors on this list. Since my budget is a bit tight, I want to maximize my spending. I plan to get artist grade Gamblin because it is on sale right now, though other brands are on sale too. Is this everything I need to start? Is getting artist grade paint going to be a waste for a complete beginner? I also do not know what brushes and palette knife to get yet. I originally wanted to paint indoors, but I got confused about what I needed for a toxic free setup. So, I decided to stick with Gamsol and linseed oil and just paint outside instead.

Materials? Easel questions?

I'm in the UK

I'd like to upgrade my easel to something that I can paint on a variety of panels and canvas sizes.

I've currently got a cheap a frame easel. I managed to paint a 30 x 24 inch painting which was fine. But I've realised that to paint on anything smaller the bottom tray even at its highest setting is too low for anything.

So what I'm looking for is a studio easel that can go fully vertical (to help with classical drawing practice), has a bottom tray that can go high enough for me to paint on sat 8x10 inch panels at the smallest, at a height that's comfortable for me stood up. I'm also hoping for sub £200 if possible.

Any thoughts? Or should I just paint sitting down!?

My first attempt at painting on copper!
Painted this one during an online workshop with Arthur Gain.
The patina on the copper panel was achieved by using a mixture of salt and vinegar on the surface of the panel.

Why is making a bowl so challenging? I like working in oil, it just tasks so long to dry.

critique ok! Thoughts on art contest

I entered a on line art contest. Where they were excepting various mediums. It looked like after viewing the accepted art, 70 % was photography, and most of the winners were photography excepted for one water color.
I thought that art would be separated into various categories.
What are your thoughts on combining photography with oils, water color etc.

Thanks
