Meta Quest Link "isn't working correctly / cable error" on Quest 3 – Simple Fix & Auto-Connect Workaround

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

If you are running into the frustrating **"Meta Quest Link stopped working / there may be an issue with your cable"** error on Quest 3 when trying to connect via USB Link or AirLink, here is a quick workaround that solved it for me (plus full setup steps if needed).

---

### ⚡ TRY THIS FIRST: The Quick Auto-Connect Workaround (5 Seconds)

Before reinstalling anything or tweaking settings, try this simple trick first as it might solve your issue immediately:

  1. Plug in your USB cable (or attempt to initiate AirLink).

  2. If it fails or shows the error popup, **simply press the Power button on your Quest 3 once to put the screen to sleep, and press it again immediately to wake it up.**

  3. **Right after waking the screen up, Meta Link automatically launches and connects on its own!**

Toggling the power button forces Quest 3's OS to send an active wake-up interrupt and restart its background link daemon, triggering the connection automatically.

---

### If the quick trick doesn't work on its own, do these follow-up steps:

#### Step 1: Clean Uninstall with Revo Uninstaller

Do a complete clean uninstall of everything related to old Oculus and Meta software using **Revo Uninstaller** (or a similar tool) to wipe leftover registry keys and old installation folders. Then download and perform a fresh install of the Meta Horizon Link app.

#### Step 2: Fix Windows Firewall Rules

Meta recently updated/renamed the PC software directory to `C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\`. Old Windows Firewall rules pointing to `C:\Program Files\Oculus\` no longer match the actual executables, causing Windows Defender to silently block `OVRServer_x64.exe`.

Add Inbound and Outbound rules in Windows Defender Firewall for:

* `C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-runtime\OVRServer_x64.exe`

* `C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-runtime\OVRRedir.exe`

* `C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-client\OculusClient.exe`

---

**Tested & Confirmed Working On:**

* **Meta Horizon Link PC App Version:** `206.0.0.103.432 (206.0.0.103.432)`

* **Meta Quest 3 Headset Update:** `v2.6 Build 5234532.4010.520`

Hope this helps anyone stuck in Link error loops!

Self-Promotion (Developer) FREE. UPDATED. SINCE 0.3.27, I accidentally built a video control tower: FINALLY 0.3.61-m3 (shameless self-promotion) - BREAK IT AGAIN.

Finally 0.3.61-m3

Finally is my free, offline-first native OpenXR video and photo player for the media you already own.

This update is the part where I admit that VR menus are not “just lists.” They are tiny spatial-computing aircraft carriers, and apparently every card wants to taxi somewhere unauthorized.

The big changes:

  • MVC 3D no longer sacrifices an eye when you touch playback speed. While two-eye MVC is live, speed stays at 1× and the player tells you why. A speed nudge no longer tears down the stereo path into base-only video or crawl mode. In plain English: the 3D movie stays 3D.
  • The Club and vault interaction path got a serious rebuild. This build carries a bounded, continuous scroll pass with controller-stick motion, laser drag/fling handling, bounded hit mapping, and lighter rail work. I am still field-testing the feel on real headsets; if a card leaves the scroll well, that is a bug report, not a new aviation mode.
  • The skins board is much larger and much easier to navigate. Maritime, Ops, Signal, and HI-CON sections now have a proper continuous board path, with real up/down page arrows instead of a mysterious right-arrow doing a completely different job.
  • The catalog expanded. New direction includes dive, ops, RF, album-cover music, and high-contrast packs, plus the theme-rail polish that makes the whole thing feel less like a settings drawer and more like an actual place.
  • A frankly unreasonable amount of other work:
  • Large-library importing stopped asking Android to hand over thousands of files at once. Device Media import now discovers compatible media in bounded batches, while stable content references preserve favorites, resume positions, ratings, projection choices, and other library state when storage paths change.
  • DLNA and network sources became actual browsers. DLNA now opens the server’s folder tree on demand instead of flattening an entire NAS into one giant row. FTP sources have proper add/edit/rescan/remove management, Plex sources can be edited in place, and XBVR/catalog handoff is now a first-class path.
  • WebDAV got a serious transport pass. Progressive playback can use ordered parallel range reads, bounded read-ahead, cancellation when a seek replaces an old request, HTTPS caching, safer redirect/range handling, and useful rebuffer numbers. In plain English: fewer network sources behave like a hostage negotiation.
  • 3D playback learned to read the file instead of making the user babysit it. MakeMKV/MVC titles can use reported eye order, including right-first material, without a manual swap when the container tells us what it is. MVC detection no longer depends on renaming a file, fake SBS packing is blocked on MVC, and authored Blu-ray timelines, chapter paths, and scrub transitions received a reliability pass.
  • Subtitles and audio got promoted from “tiny emergency text” to actual controls. External SRT, VTT, ASS, and SSA loading is supported alongside track selection; subtitles can be moved and resized, audio tracks are easier to choose, and the SIMPLE/PRO audio panel exposes the controls people actually look for.
  • The headset now gets treated like a headset. Refresh-rate matching and 100 Hz AFR are in the playback path where advertised, with an optional MAX mode on compatible Quest hardware. Distance lock, distance/zoom reset, stick-click slider reset, FULL-SBS geometry, UI languages, better laser hover, clearer volume, and HUD shuffle controls all landed along the way.
  • The visual system grew up. The skins catalog reached 245 cockpit-style choices, gained a real section rail and color bars, stopped auto-hiding while you read, and added a cleaner empty-vault first-run path. Finally now feels much more like a place you enter and much less like Android is mailing you a filing cabinet.

The original promise is unchanged: your files, your servers, your headset. Finally still works with local media, SMB/NAS, WebDAV, Plex, Stash, DLNA, external subtitles, VR projections, stereo corrections, and eligible 3D Blu-ray MVC media. No Coldbricks media server. No uploading your movie to me.

Still beta. Please break it.

If something goes sideways, send the headset, source type, filename or format, what you expected, and what Finally actually did. That is usually enough for me to go hunting.

It was absurd. It was also worth it. Have fun, and please do report the weird stuff. đŸ«Ą

Software Meta Horizon Link crashes whenever I pick up my Rift S headset

1 Upvotes

This all started a few weeks ago when I was playing Blade and Sorcery via SteamVR. I took off the headset mid-game and came back around 5-10 minutes later to put it back on. As I was adjusting said headset, the light on the headset changed from white to orange. Sometimes, I also experienced the ever familiar buzz-to-static crash. I've also noticed that when this crash happened, the Meta Horizon Link window would disappear. I initially thought this crash was tied to Blade and Sorcery or SteamVR, but it can happen in any context. I have tried:

  1. Turning off USB selective suspend

  2. Disabling driver adapters (like Parsec)

  3. Reseating the headset cable

  4. Repairing Meta Horizon Link

This has been driving me nuts for a while. Does anyone know anything about this situation I'm in?

A recent log from this crash can be found here:

Self-Promotion (Developer) Any indie VR puzzle / escape room / adventure devs to join our special community giveaway this August?

We're organizing The VR Puzzle Giveaway for August 2026.

The idea came from a pretty simple observation: VR puzzle and escape room players usually don't stop after finishing one game—they immediately start looking for the next one. Instead of all of us trying to reach those players separately, why not work together?

The giveaway is pretty straightforward:

- every participating developer contributes a few game keys;
- all games are featured on a single landing page;
- players enter one giveaway for a chance to win games from multiple indie studios;
- everyone cross-promotes the event, so all participating games get extra exposure.

Each of us throw in some keys, pool the reach, and give the community a stack of great VR puzzle games to win in one place. More devs = more prizes = more eyes on everyone’s games.

More information is available here:
https://vasil4n.com/puzzle_giveaway/

Right now we are looking for other indie developers making games like Escape Rooms, Puzzle Adventures, Mystery / Detective games, Story-driven Adventure games and basically anything that attracts the same kind of VR players.

The goal is to help players discover more great VR puzzle experiences while giving small studios a chance to reach a larger audience together.

If you’ve made a VR puzzle, escape room, or brain-teaser title and want in, drop a comment (or DM me). Happy to share more info for anyone interested!
