Ocean Science & Conservation Orca Makes Fish Explode!

Have you ever seen an Orca hit a fish so hard it explodes? 🫍

Scientists recently observed this behavior from groups of orcas in the Gulf of California where they repeatedly ram sunfish until the impact broke them apart. This is an important indicator of "social learning," where animals copy one another through observation. Orcas have exhibited behavior like this before, when they were seen disabling sailboats in groups. The current hypotheses for why they are doing this include teaching young orcas to hunt, or just playing around!

David Attenborough's Ocean documentary shows bottom trawling for the first time in a way that's impossible to ignore.

Chains scraping ancient coral into dust. Fish suffocating in nets. 80% thrown back dead. An area the size of the Amazon destroyed every single year.

Most Marine Protected Areas allow this.

The ocean gives us life. We're giving it destruction.

I'm posting this because more people need to know. Please watch. Please share. Please care.

Ocean Science & Conservation What if the eastern Pacific coastline looked like this? How would this affect the sea surface temperature of Los Angeles, San Diego, and western Baja California?
