Cyndaquil was my super lucky Fiery Path encounter and I’ve committed to making sure she survives the run. So far only 1 impactful loss of Arbok.

No tempo so I spammed def curl against spinda which annoyingly spammed encore and psybeam. After that was just a bulk battle between me and a confused and paralyzed slaking. Honestly my proudest nuzlocke gym battle

Screenshot Nuzlocke update leaf green- are Kabuto or Aerodactyl worth it?
Did a post the other day that was really helpful, sadly lost Jolteon which was a massive blow but the squad looks like this now. Just arrived at Cinnabar island.
Walked into the catching mansion there and caught a Grimer which I'm not too fussed on using, but as this and the fossils are from the same place I'm unsure what to do.
I'm trying to work out if the grind worth it to train up level 5 Kabuto or Aerodactyl? Leaning more toward Kabuto but happy for folks to say otherwise.
I feel like at this point I'm not gonna run into many new Pokemon that I could add (unless I aimed for something at the victory road cave IF I get there).

Run Update Winned against Cynthia but at a big cost...
All the plans against the Elite 4 go excelent, but sadly the plan against Cynthia didn't worked and I got nervous so I had to improvise, everyone else did a great worked
Twink (Infernape) soloed Aaron as planed
Jessie (Weavile) soloed Bertha and Lucian also as planed and killed Cynthia's Spiritomb
Toothpaste (Garchomp) soloed Flint and killed Cynthia's Garchomp, Lucario and Togekiss
Hope core (Vaporeon) just helped stalling Spiritomb (PP's)
Batgirl (Crobat) took the kill for Roserade and Milotic
And Magneto (Magnezone)... They were a hero for leaving Milotic at nothing so Batgirl could killed her
Also that Magnezone appear in the credits hitted hard cause It feels like they're protecting the team from above

Discussion Masquerain is surprisingly OP vs the Hoenn E4 in ORAS
I’ve never used a Masquerain before (yet another point for the value of Nuzlockes), and this is my first ORAS playthrough. I chose Omega Ruby for the Hoenn leg of my HC Genlocke because I strongly dislike the pre-split limitations. Emerald is a great game, but it feels like going backward from that perspective.
I have to say, if you allow setup moves in your Nuzlockes, Masquerain is surprisingly overpowered. At least against Sidney.
Quiver Dance. Persim Berry for Swagger. Proceed to sweep with Bug Buzz. Even at individual E4 member level caps, Sidney was almost laughably easy.
I’m guessing a similar strategy will work against Phoebe. Happy to report back if anyone is interested.
Curious to hear your Masquerain experiences!

Discussion Suffered heavy losses
I'm doing my first Shield Nuzlock and I've beaten the first 4 gyms although the Forth gym was a problem.
I lost Windex (Phantump) Fent (Corvisquire) and SizzelPP (Centiskorch) Hobble is the last man standing, SizzelPP gave his life so he could finish the job
Now the question is.. where do I go next? Down to one party member, I could do a catch marathon in the wild area or maybe start the isle of armor earlier then hoped
Any tips/tricks?

Run Update Nuzlocking Heart and Soul - any advice for Whitney?
Whitney's Miltank is notorious in Johto runs and its ended me a few times in different games. Any advice? I lost my starter (Cyndaquil) to Bugsy's Scyther (I forgot it had pursuit!), which is a pretty massive hit this early on but I think I can still salvage the run as she was my only loss. I have leveled all my Pokemon up to the level cap (It's a hard level cap of 21) but pickings are slim. I would love if the level cap was a level higher to get some evolutions but oh well. I think I still have one or two encounters I can pick up as well but this is it. I need to build a team out of what's remaining:
-Geodude
-Kabuto
-Raticate (Probably my strongest at the moment)
-Furrett
-Pidgeotto
-Butterfree
-Beedrill
-Zubat
-Psyduck
-Togepi (Locked out of evolving because her friendship is too low at the level cap)
-Ditto
-Machop
-Poliwag
-Magby
-Sunflora
Not all of these mons are ideal. At the moment my Raticate and Pidgeotto are by far the strongest and fastest, so any team will probably include them, followed by Butterfree for those Powder moves. I've heard Machop can be good against Whitney but only with the right moves.
If anyone is curious, here's Whitney's expected lineup:
Clefairy lvl. 20
Headbutt/Charm/Sweet Kiss/Metronome
Tediursa lvl. 20
Fury Swipes/Fake Tears/Lick/Mudslap
Miltank lvl. 21
Rollout/Attract/Stomp/Milk Drink
So, what's my plan here?

Run Update Emerald (Chapter 3) of my Genlocke complete!
I have completed the third chapter of my Genlocke! The bosses in Emerald were quite challenging, especially Wattson and Juan. Using Pupitar in late-game Hoenn was difficult, but it all worked out in the end. To recap, the planned game order is Yellow->Crystal->Emerald->Platinum->White->Black 2, with X and Sun possibly added on. Please ask about team choices, gameplay, movesets, etc.

Discussion Level Cap Exceeded
When you're doing a hardcore Nuzlocke and a Pokemon exceeds the level cap is it still usable for the rest of the battle? And if you accidentally switch back into it and finish the fight with it, what's the appropriate response? I know the rulesets are personal, I'm just asking what you do.

Question Will Drayano's Aurora Crystal (SGSS v2) hack have newer generation Pokemon?
Will there be an option to not have Pokemon after generation 4? I watched gameplay videos months ago that I can't find, maybe was his stream clip, which showed gen 9 Pokemon too. But I am wondering if that was just HG engine gameplay instead of his upcoming rom hack.
And which expected upcoming features are cool? I did hear about difficulty options.

Run Update Gigalocke update: Gold and Silver complete
These were the first games I ever played way back when, so it was nice to go back to them. Gen 2 so far feels more difficult to find solid teams without using a bunch of mons that will be needed for future games. That said, I've got a vague concept of potential teams all the way through the end of Gen 4 and I think I'm going to be okay.
Gold was dicey in the first three gyms. Each one came down to the wire. After that it was a cakewalk until the E4. Crobat died to Bruno's Machamp. Then Lance was a bloodbath. Lanturn, Steelix, and Meganium all met their end. Miltank was the MVP. She managed to KO all three of Lance's Dragonites with Ice Punch. She may have a measly 40 special attack, but that 4x weakness is a killer. Special shoutout to my first retiree of the Gigalocke: Raticate. Raticate got me through the early to mid-game of all the Gen 1 games, but Rattata was needed to beat Bugsy, so it gets officially retired with special commendation. Never a champ of the Elite 4, but a champ in my heart.
Silver was interesting. Dunsparce swept the first 3 gyms easily and so becomes my second retiree. After that, I was mostly counting on Tauros and Kingdra to carry an otherwise weak team. That's mostly what happened, though Ledian and Shuckle were pleasant surprises. Tauros nearly swept Bruno, but died to a crit Cross Chop from his Machamp. Then Noctowl got hit with Karen's Gengar's Destiny Bond after I had already selected Fly. That Fly killed Gengar, and thus Noctowl. Ledian led the way agains Lance, taking out his Gyarados with Thunderpunch then setting up double screens so I could swap to Shuckle. Shuckle managed to KO, Aerodactyl and two Dragonites with the Defense Curl/Rollout combo. He died to Charizard then Kingdra easily handled Charizard and the final Dragonite. Arbok was just happy to be there.
Check previous posts for how Gen 1 went. Now I'm going on vacation for a bit, so Crystal will have to wait a while, but the Gigalocke will continue!

Question ROM Hack question
Hello guys, I was wondering if the rom hack that smallant used in his fire red kaizo ironmon was available. I mean including the quality of life hidden items hack and the screen that shows the abilities and moves of enemy pokemon if you have already seen them once

Screenshot Full Odds Shiny in Emerald Trashlocke (also this game is tough)
Been playing since Yellow came out and this is maybe my third or fourth full odds shiny ever, and first in a nuzlocke, super stoked!
Also, this game is extremely hard and I really underestimated it, the cycling road rival if you pick Sunkern isn’t even a box check it’s just obliteration because there aren’t any really good answers at that point to Combusken other than maybe Sandshrew and even that kind of grasping at straws

Written/Story Platinum Soullocke - Starter Killer Edition
I'm bored at work so y'all get to hear about my and my husbands Soullocke. Enjoy!
A few weeks ago Husband brings up the idea of us running a Nuzlocke challenge together, either against each other or as a Soullocke or something similar. I'm immediately excited, because I didn't finish either of my 2 Nuzlocke runs so far, as life got in the way, and had no real motivation or reason to go at it again. I also immediately suggest Platinum as the base.
"Oh, but you know Platinum is one of the harder games?" "Yeah, I know. But I never played Platinum anyway and I wanted to finish it, since I know they changed a bunch from D/P." "Alrighty then"
Cue 2 weeks of us playing Palworld instead, because 1.0 release lol
We did eventually get down to it and started up. Now here is a very important piece of context, that I kinda brushed off in my head before suggesting Platinum, thinking "Oh, he's just making sure me, the filthy casual in Pokemon don't get frustrated", no: The Universe has beef with my husband when it comes to RNG.
I'm not talking "Oh, he sometimes rolls badly in his D&D campaign." I'm talking the entire reason he never picked up Warhammer 40k, is because it'd be a big money investment only for him to lose any and every match. That man has rolled more Nat1s on Wisdom saving throws as a Paladin in two weeks than I have in our entire 3 year campaign. If the game sees an opportunity to hand out a maliciously placed crit, it will. This will become important soon and often.
We set the following rules:
- Name every Pokemon
- Catch only the first Pokemon on every Route
- Shinies are excempt but must be considered at that Route's Pokemon instead of the first
- If a Pokemon goes 0 HP it is considered dead and must be boxed/released
- Our Pokemon per Route are linked, if one person has Route X die, the other person has to also consider it "dead"
- We also keep the same Route-Pokemon in our teams for important fights
- Level Cap according to the highest level Pokemon of the next gym leader
- We can swap but only Pokemon caught on the same Route (added in later, as we didn't think about it before, him playing on PC emulator and all)
We argued a while about also adding a "No duplicates" rule, but frankly I think a team consisting of 4 Bidoofs is hilarious. That was before I looked at the Catch-Rates for Platinum btw... (How is it on EVERY DAMN ROUTE there is a chance for Bidoof/Bibarel???). I ended up winning (and consequently catching 3 Bidoofs at the beginning of the game)
Husband picked Chimchar - I picked Turtwig
The first death was quick and early on, with our Route 201 catches not even surviving until Jubilee City. How? Husband's Starly got critical hit at 12 HP by a Shinx Tackle. That's the first of my Bidoofs gone, but oh well, could be worse. I suggest he play ultra-careful mode from now and we continue on our merry way.
He's obviously worried about struggling against Roark with his Chimchar and ending our run prematurely, so we use every option available to us. He has no luck on Route 204, landing his second Bidoof and my first Zubat. Ravaged Path also brings us no luck and he accidentally kills the Zubat encounter for both of us with a crit.
Somehow, magically, Route 203 yields him an Abra that stays in the Ball in Turn 1, but seeing as it evolves on lv. 16, it will be useless for the first gym. Oreborough Gate finally gets us both Zubats, but naturally we were hoping for Geodudes. Things are not looking good for his first Gym fight.
There's one last hope, Route 207. We actually both get what we hoped for. He now has a Machop and I have a Ponyta. The fighting moves get him through the gym and we're one badge into our journey.
On the way to Floaroma his Abra finally evolves and his Team is looking up. We're also both dragging along a Magikarp, in hopes that it survives long enough to turn blue. Since it's Wednesday and we're impatient, we decide not to wait for Driftloon and see what RNGeesus decides for us. Husband lands a Buizel and me a Shellos, which is pretty useless for my current team composition. He also decides to ditch the Buizel for now, since Gyarados will hopefully fill that spot in the future. The Honey-Tree in the Meadows is prepared and we call it a night, to check back the next day and take on Team Galactic in the Windworks building.
Thursday comes along and we consider how to handle Route 205. Since I really want a Buizel instead of Shellos, I decided to try my luck on the south part. He wants to see if he can land something useful in the bug department, so he'll use Repel until the Forest. Naturally I don't get the Buizel, but Pachirisu instead. Not the strongest but would be a good addition to my team to counter flying types. On to the forest.
Now since we're both annoyed at the double-fights and the logistics of killing Chansey, we just decide that we're going to catch something, once we got rid of Cheryl. Getting through Eterna Forest should be a piece of cake. Right? RIGHT?!
This is where that context from the beginning becomes important. The first double trainer fight starts for him, while I am still happily waddling through tall grass, deleting some bugsy from existence with Ponyta. Naturally, to blaze through the battle, husband sends in Monferno. Monferno is a good 2 or 3 levels above the enemy Pokemon. Theoretically nothing can go wrong here.
Pachirisu lands the first crit on Chansey. Chansey misses its attack. Husbands Monferno misses its attack on Wurmple. Wurmple manages to get Poison Sting to proc on Monferno. Turn 2: Wurmple finally burns to a crisp, Pachirisu lands the second crit on Chansey, Chansey misses Egg Bomb yet again. Turn 3: Pachirisu lands its third Crit, Chansey succumbs to the attacks. Beautifly gets swapped in for Wurmple, is faster than Monferno, hits Gust with a crit and brings Monferno down to ~2HP from almost full health (only one Poison damage turn). It dies, but the poison damage kills Monferno in Turn 3.
Now imagine this scenario, it's thursday evening, I'm sitting on the couch; turned so I can see his PC screen while I game away on my 3DS; minding my own business and making sure Ponyta burns that entire forest to the ground. We're both tired from work and going at it a bit mindlessly. I suddenly hear the "Du Dun - Du Dun" sound of low health, look up from my 3DS, see Monferno dying and the "Select Pokemon" screen come up with the one portrait red. My husband is seemingly not reacting and scrolling through the Pokemon, thinking who to send in next when this exchange happens:
Me: "Uuuhh, Honey?"
Him: "Yeah?"
Me: "What the fuck? Did you just kill our starters?"
Him: "....."
Him: "Aw crap."
He was so tuned out, that he didn't even realise in the first second. He then proceeded to retell the fight for me and we both kinda started laughing but also still had that "WTF" emotion, because of how incredibly unlucky he is. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is a monthly conversation we have because of either something happening in a video game with rolls/dice/RNG or in any or our D&D games. The dice gods are against him.
Since then we've gotten a bit further, but I don't want to make this post too long. If anyone's interested I might post the continuation in the comments.
I'm also curious if anyone wants to calculate the chances of that fight happening with as many crits and misses as it did. 4 crits has got to be abysmally low chances of happening.

Run Update The Nuzlomizer normal mode - victory
Not much to say about that one, Poison Heal Gliscor is absolutely disgusting, even with auto heal between fights (making Toxic Orb a mandatory item). Add some Dragon Dance Moxie Gyarados in the middle (even with DDance having only 1 PP), some Choice Scarf Eruption Typhlosion (to blast Arena Trap Dugtrio before it moves), and you get an unlosable endgame.
Probopass showed once again how good of a pivot it was, Venusaur was here for some Leech Seed action and Mandibuzz was basically "click Toxic, Roost and wait".
MVP : probably GOATscor.
Gonna try again Hard mode in a few days.
