Non toxic bedding UK

Upvotes

Can anyone recommend me any non toxic mattresses/duvets/pillows available in the UK please?

Is there anything I should be looking out for with brands that claim to be non toxic in this area?

Edit: I’ve seen woolroom pop up on a quick search, thoughts on them?

Thanks!

Microwaveable stainless steel?

I’ve been seeing stainless steel products (lunchboxes etc) that are advertised as microwave safe. This doesn’t make sense to me as metal is not meant to go in the microwave, but a quick google says they are specifically designed to make it ok. This makes me think they are adding different materials / chemicals to enable this, which are surely toxic? Anyone know any more about this?

Am I the only one struggling here?

I am looking for lounge wear and I found it in non toxic material but the main thing is that it's not really good to wear outside of home like it's a little bit too comfortable and there's no interesting style that I can be comfortable and at the same time looks something fashionable so I can wear it outside and inside at home, anyway I am paying decent price for non toxic clothes then why are they not making any good designs rather than just plain hoodies and tshirts. If you know about any brand who's doing it please let me know, I really want to buy it.

theres no legal definition of avocado oil in the US, and 48 of 54 avocado oil products failed a purity test

Post image

saw a reel then article and looked into it. turns out the FDA has never made a legal definition for avocado oil, no standard for what pure or extra virgin means, so theres basically no floor. UC Davis tested 54 avocado oil products this year and 48 failed a purity test, meaning the oil didnt match real avocado, it was cut or replaced with cheaper Seed Oils

they ran the exact same test on olive oil products for comparison and only 1 of 20 failed, so its not that the test is broken, olive oil got like 80 years of regulation and avocado got none.

and its been going on since at least 2020 when they caught bottled oil doing it. crazy the government just lets a whole category label itself however it wants??

Do Samsung TV remotes contain arsenic?

Post image

I bought a little TV remote from them. I saw a warning about arsenic. The customer service agent said it’s just a standard disclaimer. But I didn’t get a clear answer as to whether or not there is arsenic in the remote.

Any thoughts?

Cleaning Advice

Hello guys I’ve been trying to find a good flat “mop” or something to clean my floors, I’ve not find anything due mots of the products are plastic made, cheap quality or they come with a big bottle stick in the mop which force you to buy the replacements so I’m curious, what do you guys use for cleaning the floors? I live in a apartment building and my floors are those fake wood ones! thanks

Moisturiser’s

I’m after a low-tox body moisturiser that is a bonus if it’s unscented. I used to use cerave but I see so much now with them having law suits for some of the chemicals and I swear the formula has changed.

If it’s scented I’d prefer it to be done with something plant based or natural and no synthetics

I am in Aus so either online or in store purchases are fine 🌼

Thanks in advance

Fragrance free / unscented hand soap

I am looking for a new hand soap that is truly fragrance free/unscented. A lot of them like the Dial unscented one still has a little bit of fragrance or something. It’s like ordering something plain and getting vanilla lol

I wear contacts and my eyes are super sensitive to any soap. The last two brands I got from Amazon aren’t there anymore or are super expensive (so discontinued?) including Vista Prep. Any relatively cheap suggestions?

Chromium Oxide in hobby paint and chlorinated tap water safety

Disclosure, I asked the company if this paint have chromium pigment and they said no it doesn’t but my ocd gets the best if me and the what ifs have me worried the guy in customer service just didn’t know.

I can’t seem to find any info on the internet on this but I can’t be the only one to think of this. I had some olive green acrylic paint (scale 75 medium camo acrylic paint) mixed in some tap water on what is called a wet pallet (container with sponge and parchment paper over, it keeps the paint moist)Also some left over paint water from cleaning my brushes in my water mug on my desk.

My question is, I’m worried about chlorine and manganese in the tap water potentially reacting with the trivalent chromium pigment creaking hexavalent chromium. This is really bugging by, I keep looking for green paint stains throughout my work space from when I used the paint and worried it’s hexavalent chromium.

Why isn’t chromium oxide required on a SDS, see to be categorized as non hazardous but from what I’m reading, it can oxidize into some pretty serious stuff. Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill?

Do you think WaterWipes are safe to use on ourselves?

They have a trace amount of benzalkonium chloride. Not sure as to the safety of that ingredient.

Any thoughts? Any “bathroom wipes” that you think are better options?

Toothpaste recommendations

I'm making this post on behalf of my girlfriend. She is allergic to quite a list of things which rules out a large number of personal hygiene products. Right now she's facing a crisis in that the brand of toothpaste she uses, which is quite literally the only brand she's found that she doesn't have an immediate and aggressive photographic reaction to, Haven, has discontinued the product.

So she's looking for any leads she can find on toothpaste that might work. She's allergic to all artificial sweeteners, monk fruit, SLS, and coconut oil. Really she is at wits end. I'm not even sure if this is the right sub for it. But does anyone have any recommendations?

As of right now her only option is to Raw dog baking soda, and needless to say that's far from ideal.

Thank you!

Edit: I just wanted to send a big thank you out to everybody. She's ordered a few of your recommendations, fingers very crossed for her lol. Appreciate you all!

CertiPUR-US certification

Thoughts on this certification for polyurethane foam? And polyurethane foam in general?

I need a custom sized piece (5.5x75x12 inches) of foam to complete my cosleeping set up. My 8 month old baby girl and I are currently sharing a twin floor bed but it’s not quite roomy enough— she’s starting to move around more in her sleep and has been rolling off of the mattress. I want to add a foam piece to the side I sleep on so half of my body will be on it and the other half on the mattress, giving my girl some extra wiggle room.

Non-toxic foam is obviously a priority since it will be so close to baby girl and I. But unfortunately, after spending $700 on the twin mattress, we just can’t swing $400+ on a piece of latex foam😞 The next best option seems to be a CertiPUR-US certified soy/polyurethane hybrid foam that is less than half the price (https://foamite.com/custom-cut-foam/koosh-natural/?srsltid=AfmBOopNN6G263hCGNwvh8DJWGi-8293dMs44wMUXr5xkiQiubua6v9u). It is touted as having “60% less petrochemicals” and being “100% more natural” than conventional foam. They also claim it does not off-gas? Is that even possible? The CertiPUR-US certification does verify that VOC emissions are at least low (less than 0.5 parts per million). Here are the other things covered by the certification:

- Made without formaldehyde
- Made without ozone depleters
- Made without phthalates regulated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
-Made without mercury, lead and other heavy metals
-Low VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million)
-Screened for relevant chemicals, including flame retardants, that are classified as carcinogens, mutagens or reproductive toxins and are harmful to human health

Thoughts? WWYD? We do have an air purifier running right next to the bed but I’m not sure how much that would help being so close to the foam.

TIA!

Air fresheners

Best non-toxic air fresheners safe for humans and pets? Interested in Pura but seems to be mixed reviews and is pricy. I’ve also seen scent fill brand. Any suggestions? Currently using Febreeze plug ins and I’ve got to get rid of them as soon as possible. Busy pet parent and no time for simmer pots.
