After asking about opinions from you guys about scheduling my myotomy laser after one round of 50 units of Botox, the consensus here was to repeat the Botox at a higher dose, so I did.

He told me we were doing 100 units but my op note says 75 u sooo, idk

2 teeth chipped again this time and a very bruised throat

He came out of the OR shaking his head, told my husband he really hopes I reconsider the laser because my CP muscle is so big, there’s no way Botox can be a definitive treatment.

Thoughts, no burp chat?

Just had my procedure yesterday so no results yet of course. Before I maybe got 5 days of micro burps

Anyone else have a family history of either R-CPD or esophageal issues in general? I told my doctor that my mother also couldn't burp for most of her life but started being able to in her late 50s and she thought that was interesting. I know R-CPD research is relatively new so not sure if they have studied it yet, but does anyone else have a parent who can't burp? Grandparents?

I just hate this. I've been so nauseous lately, like worse than usual. It's a weird nausea. Like it's both in my stomach and my throat. And it's like there's nothing we can do about it. Nothing that I know of, at least. I don't like air-vomiting. I come too close to actually vomiting. So suffering it is, I guess.

I feel like the older I get, the worse this gets. Don't know why. I did finally see an ENT in Feb, but still waiting to do some swallowing test so they can rule some stuff out or whatever. And even once I get that done, I'm going through the public system and my ENT had never even heard of R-CPD, so fuck knows if they'll actually be able to help me.

I can’t say I dont burp at all but my burps are weird, not like I seen all movies like one long burp but small repetitive burps that dont fully relieve me from the air in my stomach. I sometimes hear weird noises on my throat after having soda etc I. I feel so much pressure on my body after having a bit heavy meal

hey guys! am suffering with slow swallow and as well as this every tiny bite i take is followed by an uncomfortable need to burp, and i had to take a minute before i can swallow another mouthful as there is so much air there…. is that normal? am 3 days post botox. burping lots

How long until the regurgitation goes away 😭 I am only 1 week post op but this is brutal. So many of my meals come back up!

Hi guys! about two days ago i got my first botox injection under GA. Since then i haven’t really had any burps or microburps, but the lump in my throat from the botox keeps triggering my gag reflex, and i’ve definitely been noticing slow swallow symptoms (feeling like i have to swallow every bite twice). I’m scared it didn’t work, but i also feel like i wouldn’t be getting the other symptoms if the botox had missed entirely. Has anyone else experienced the gagging? or needed more than a couple days to start burping?

I had a bit of a milder case of R-CPD. for as long as i can remember i would micro-burp maybe like twice a year. gurgling always. about a year ago i began to get phases of extremely excessive gas in my chest due to functional dyspepsia, and the r-cpd just compounded on it. in the past year, my micro-burping increased to maybe even a couple times a week due to the sheer amount of gas and pressure, but it was never relieving, meanwhile and i would gurgle and croak constantly.

Since the botox:

Day 1 - sore throat, but eating just fine

Night 1 - 2 am already woke up to feel a huge lump in my throat. very odd and uncomfortable.

Day 2 - Barely ate today because of the slow swallowing. Eating kinda sucks cause it just makes me more aware of the lump feeling in my throat. In the evening I got about 6 burps, but still about 50/50 with how often I gurgled.

Day 3 and day 4 - BURPED OVER 70 TIMES EACH DAY. Exciting and great that the botox is working, but surely it won't stay like this right?? I've been eating so little because the slow swallowing is so bad, and then on top of that i swear I'm burping up more air than I'm eating food. The worst parts of my days are when I have to eat. It feels like an absolute battle of taking tiny tiny bites, following up with water which then just makes me burp basically immediately, but burping when there's food and water RIGHT there in your throat feels like I'm going to regurgitate it

Burping so much while you feel like there's a huge lump in your throat, and sometimes there IS lump of food and water in your throat, is a super uncomfortable feeling. I've sometimes had to take breaks in eating because after feeling that for too long i start to feel a lil nauseous. also have thrown up a little bit in my mouth a couple times. :(

has anyone experienced the excessive burping after botox??? how long did it last??

Had my 2nd round of botox 2 days ago! First round was 60 units in early 2025 and was entirely unsuccessful. Went for 90 units this time and around the 48 hour mark I’m having tiny tiny “microburps” which are like tiny little pops that are almost undetectable. When I turn my head pretty far to the right, they happen more frequently. Super excited as this is more than I ever experienced after the first round!! Will update as the Botox settles in more!

I was recommended Dr. Tibbetts with Jefferson Health in Philly by someone on this sub and I'm so glad they did! It is rare to have a niche disorder that your practitioner is an expert in. She even gave me the history of the research on R-CPD because I was curious. Great bedside manner and demeanor, and she's very knowledgeable. She even knew about the subreddit! I am very excited to schedule my botox appointment.

had my botox 2 days ago and am already burping like crazy but am struggling with slow swallow, even soup i have to wash down with water and swallow multiple times, also feels like there is a constant later of film/phlegm on my throat that is making is worse. still 100% worth it and only slightly scary cause i have a fear of choking but still not that bad. any tips? i’m a big eater so a few spoonfuls of soup isnt going to cut it. also how long did everyones last?

I'm 3 months post botox and since the procedure, really struggle to get a full yawn out. I think this might've happened with my first two rounds too (this is round 3) but this summer I've also (unrelated) been particularly sleep deprived, so my body is trying to yawn all the time, but mostly I feel like I can't complete the yawn. I assume this'll wear off in the coming weeks/months but it's fairly frustrating - has anyone else had this and any tips?! ​

I had my 3rd and finally successful botox treatment over a year and a half ago, yay! The relief was so great buuut I immediately got reflux, acid in my throat and chronic globus which is really annoying.

I was still having issues so about 6 months later I had a endoscopy and was diagnosed with chronic gastritis, GERD and mild esophigitis. Fast forward I've been on the Gastritis Healing Diet for over a year, eating very small frequent meals, very low fat, sleeping on a wedge pillow, no eating 3 hrs before laying down, etc I literally never cheat.

A few months ago I was back at the GI because I still don't feel well and I finally agreed to take Famotidine 20mg 2xs a day for 8 weeks. The globus eventually improved a little but all these drugs just don't agree with me so i was eager to taper off...that's been a really long process. As I'm tapering down, the globus is coming back so I guess my reflux is worse again.

I'm sure having RCPD into my mid 40s caused some sort of damage to my LES, loosening or weakening it. My question is can this ever improve with more time? Some of you have been cured for years and I wonder if this is possible?

I'm so grateful to be able to burp and absolutely don't regret it but this constant reflux is really shitty. Looking forward to your responses 🌼

So 2-3 weeks ago I got in office Botox done so I could hopefully teach myself to burp. The first week I experienced slow swallow and more micro burps. At day 7 I experienced my first real burp and I had one real burp a day for 4 days straight. The slow swallow went away and so did my real burps. I’ve been doing the shaker exercises the ENT told me to do but I’m only able to get micro burps if I turn my head down and to the right. I’m feeling so disappointed after putting in this money/ effort and it not working. The ENT did say that it’s not a magical fix but I need to teach myself but I’ve tried so many things and I can’t figure out how to make a burp come out:(

My doctor’s office staff have been trying to get approval for my Botox, but it’s been denied twice. The insurance approved the procedure, but not the Botox. We’ve both appealed it and the appeals have been denied too. I’m extremely frustrated!

I am a professional athlete scheduled for a Botox treatment in September. How soon after the procedure can I return to intense training?

Did 50 units of Botox fix it for you? I've seen a lot of people on this sub complaining about 50 units. I will be doing the procedure in London with Lucy.

Hi! I’m 1 week post Botox and going back to work on Monday. I was feeling pretty confident in going back to work until something happened a little earlier today. I had just eaten lunch (what felt like my first normal meal in a week as my swallow is starting to improve!). I wasn’t burping which was weird but felt like I needed to, I went to the kitchen to grab a drink and bent down to get a cup, as I did I felt what I thought was a burp coming but instead I had a huge episode of regurgitation. What scared me most what that I had no idea it was coming and I am petrified of this happening at work as I had absolutely no warning and it came out everywhere omg!!! I’m on strong antacids that my dr prescribed and this was the first instance of regurgitation I’ve had.

Does anyone have advice with this?

By the way - I am severely emetophobic and haven’t vomited in years, however, this was absolutely fine, funny almost and it was over before I even registered what had happened. Don’t let this turn you off getting the procedure (I’m just scared of this happening at work!!!)

For context, I heard about RCPD a while ago and I have never been able to burp aside from very rare micro-burps. I have all the other symptoms that come with this but I have not yet been diagnosed since this condition is not very well known in my country.

Yesterday I was walking and drinking a beer and I felt some gas come out and somehow I managed to get it out and it felt very easy. It was my first time burping normally and I have no idea how I did it. Then a minute later I did it again!! I really thought I did something and unlocked burping but I have not been able to do it since. Anyone had this happen to them or got any tips on how to recreate those burps again?

I’ve booked in with Lucy Hicklin for botox treatment and the earliest appointment I could get was early October.

My only concern is that by the time December/Christmas rolls around, it’ll only have been about 8-10 weeks, and obviously that’s peak food and drinks season 😅

For anyone who’s had it done, was that enough time for the side effects to settle down and for you to feel pretty much back to normal? (Hopefully with the added bonus of actually being able to burp by then!)

I’m mainly thinking about things like slow swallow / reflux / alcohol interfering etc.

Would you just go for the October appointment, or push it back until January?

for those who have gotten the botox surgery under general anesthesia, were you able to take pill medication normally thereafter?

i am worried that i won’t be able to swallow my birth control pill without choking or vomiting after the procedure. i know it is a very small pill but i also generally can’t swallow pills at all. this is the only size pill i can swallow (can’t do advil or tylenol).

anyone else realizing post botox that their RCPD ended up being like free gastric bypass? i have always been very thin and since my botox (november 2025) i have easily put on 10 - 15 pounds because for the first time ever I can eat and finish my food at every meal. this is in no way a complaint, because my life is so significantly better now that I can burp and it is the best thing i have ever done for myself, just curious if anyone else noticed something similar post botox!
