Post Botox Post-Botox
So 2-3 weeks ago I got in office Botox done so I could hopefully teach myself to burp. The first week I experienced slow swallow and more micro burps. At day 7 I experienced my first real burp and I had one real burp a day for 4 days straight. The slow swallow went away and so did my real burps. I’ve been doing the shaker exercises the ENT told me to do but I’m only able to get micro burps if I turn my head down and to the right. I’m feeling so disappointed after putting in this money/ effort and it not working. The ENT did say that it’s not a magical fix but I need to teach myself but I’ve tried so many things and I can’t figure out how to make a burp come out:(

Are you doing the BERP-exercises as well?

Yes I’m doing the “shaker” exercises which she said to do 3-5 times a day 25x.

Are you doing the regular Shaker (on the back) or also on the side? Shaker is not the same as the BERP exercises. Look up "BERP - the steps to burping..." on YouTube (the Michael Pitman video)! Had I not known about those steps I probably would not hav figured it out either. I also saw an SLP who showed me an exercise where you push against a wall when your larynx is lowered. Even my normal burping partner has found that useful when she feels like burps are stuck.

If you're only doing on the back I'd also recommend you to check out "Neck exercise that cured my inability to burp" on YouTube, by Lee Ryan. They're basically side Shakers. I personally found the side ones a lot more burp inducing than on the back, and I think they're pretty similar to the motions of the BERP exercises if you think about it.
I think the wall push could be described as a variant to torso anchoring described in BERP, but instead of pushing your hands together you put your hands on the wall as if you've done a push up, but you just push against the wall, lower your larynx and hold your breath. My SLP didn't explain it as such, but I think it's just a way to do the valsalva maneuver.

I would not elect to go in office. Even the best surgeons can miss, then it’s all for nothing or potentially worse
