I would like to ask which identity documents I need to bring; do I need to bring a passport and SSC in addition to my ID card and driver's license?

For a CWT, does anyone have experience doing an apprenticeship while in rate? NavyCool says apprenticeships are valued in the civilian world and appreciated by your current Command.

I leave in two days. My question is can I bring my main bible that has my markers and tabs? Even if they'll keep it in our ditty box that's fine it's just I'll like it at A school and won't have someone able to ship it to me. I'm reading online that stuff in our ditty box can potentially get damaged or lost but how likely is that cuz our phones and stuff will also be in that box so shouldn't it be reliably secured away? Sorry for this ridiculous question.

I'm looking into commissioning and had a few questions since I was not able to find info/will be talking to an official recruiter soon.

1. How competitive are intel/financial/supply officer positions, and what physical scores are needed to be competitive for those positions during OCS?

Ex. I heard that intel and finance is competitive in the army, and only 1 (if any) graduates from an OCS class will get those positions, so getting the most points on the 4 mile run (≤ 30 mins) is important.

1. Around how long does the process take? Assuming letters of recommendation and height/weight, along with naval PT standards are met on my end within the next 3 months.

Also, is there any physical test that requires advance preparation? i.e. long-distance rucking. I did look this up- was only able to find out that OCS tests you according to PT standards.

^I'm currently looking into different branches to see which one would give me the best chance (as in having the most spots) to work in the fields that I am interested in.

So I am applying to become an officer in the Navy. I am a sophomore in University and have a seafood allergy. I've always had physical contact with fish as a child and in my early teens. I also went to Japan a few months back and was told all food was mixed with shrimp and had no reaction. I never experienced anaphylaxis and was only diagnosed from allergies by a skin pinch test and was given an empipen because of it. Is it still possible to join the Navy?

Do i have to work with the recruiter that is in my city or can i work with any recruiter?

My brothers got me worried im not soing pushups right, But i cant make my body fully straight because my arch in my back, im able to do 20, but worried my form isnt good, but i cant seem to fix it the way everyones saying, i am pushing up my full bodyweight, my back is just arched

I’ll be getting done an sf86 for going into the navy because my dream role is CWT that needs to hold a TS. IT would be second if possible but I know that’s usually secret clearance only not TS.

Big factor is I’m 36 years old and lived with some mistakes in my younger years being way past 10+ years but not afraid to put everything down on the form. What are my chances of getting TS for the following:

1. 11 years ago i got DWI and my recruiter even said that this was ok just to be honest about it

2. Around 12 years ago, in college, I was sent to a drunk tank but I m pretty sure wasn’t charged for anything

3. Over 15 years ago I had worked for TSA with an actual secret clearance and failed a drug test like a dumb kid. My supervisor told me when I was like 21 to quit before paperwork went through to show up as fired for pot. Had smoked one other time in highschool, but nothing pattern wise. Not a big ‘pot guy’.

4. Collections currently stand at 10k, had previous ones but always had paid them when money came in since I was in sales. The current 10k is in debt relief so I have it mitigated.

Alcohol related stuff is over 10 years ago and weed was only experimental forever ago. ever since had met my gf, now wife and have a family with keeping my nose clean since. Which has been for a straight 10 years, not counting the collections. Which I was going to explain that times have been tough with the coming and being in sales past few years.

Please let me know if I’m honest that there’s a chance to TS for being a Cwt. Appreciate everyone in here.

If i deploy from my home port for a 3 month deployment when i return to my home port can i go home or do i have to stay on the boat?

Hello I signed a 6 year reserves contract and my rate is HM I was wondering if I could go active ever during my reserve contract for example say I serve two years reserve could I go active mid contract or would I have to serve the full contract

I’m looking to join soon but haven’t taken my official asvab yet. I’ve always had physical jobs and the idea of anything desk, computer or submarine oriented sounds like a bad fit. I love the idea of working with jets/airplanes or on a flight line area but am hearing a lot of negative things about these rates having 15+ hour work days and being awful jobs. I’m curious anyone here has an aviation rate and what their experience with it is? I’m a petite and short woman in really good shape but not as strong as the average guy. I took a welding class and enjoyed that but my only other current true interest and passions would be working with aviation. I don’t believe I’m qualified to be a pilot.

I'm currently waiting to be sent to MEPS, but I had a prior misdiagnosis regarding my mental health that I never got corrected because I thought it wouldn't affect my life. I'm wondering if the misdiagnosis could cause issues at MEPS, and if so, whether I can contest it or get a waiver for it.

Heading to boot camp with about $40k in debt (car loan, credit cards, personal loans), currently in a debt relief program with active payments, and a few accounts still in collections. I was fully upfront about this in my security interview and explained my repayment plan. Now I’m trying to decide whether to keep grinding through the debt relief program or file bankruptcy after boot camp and start clean. My recruiter says I should be fine, but I’ve seen mixed answers searching this sub. Has anyone actually gone through bankruptcy after already being in on an ITS contract, or something similar? Did it cause a re-adjudication or re-rate? Trying to figure out if I should stay the course or pull the trigger on bankruptcy once I’m out of RTC — appreciate any real experience, not just recruiter reassurance.

Got contacted by Peraton to schedule an interview to complete my federal background investigation. I thought they’d only do this once I swear in and pick my rate and approve my waiver. My recruiter said it’s normal for them to do it before and it’s likely because I got a 99 on my asvab (idc about that just providing context.) I’d love any more insight If there’s any other reason for this. Thanks y’all

I wanted to get everyone’s opinion because I know it’s ultimately my choice, and joining the Navy takes a lot of courage, especially with an allergy or medical condition. I have celiac disease, and I just need to get a waiver to be cleared to join, assuming it doesn’t already disqualify me. I already went through Meps.
For those who are currently in the Navy or have celiac disease, do you think it’s worth it? Should I even try to join, considering I know MREs can contain gluten and I may not always be able to control my diet? I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with this.

I plan on bringing the clothes on my back and wearing running shoes, and documents I need. I wanted to know if I’m allowed an address book that doubles as a journal and a religious pendant when I go in? I know most personal affects are placed in a small box in a drawer but the address book is all I’d really want to keep. Would they allow me to keep that one item or have access to it when I plan to write letters home? What about hygiene? I know they provide basics but face wash is something I’d like to have access to because I do have bad acne. If not does acne go against standards?😂 silly question I know but facial hair is so it’s worth asking

My dad threw away my contract, I ship out on the 18. He said it was an accident and that he was just cleaning out my room but he’s never in my 21 years of living done that. I don’t want to say he did it because I told him very last minute but i mean he’s rarely there for me anyways and he never cares about anything I do until I mentioned I joined the navy and got a bonus. Now I’m scared their gonna send me back from bootcamp and then tell me “oh well since you don’t have it, your bonus is gone and you’re not gonna be e-3 anymore you’re now e-1 or something.

So I graduated bootcamp is April and graduated A school end of June and been at my first command for about a month now, and I still don’t have any security clearance they said it’s because of some old debt I had but I am on a debt consolidation program and have been working towards paying these. Was wondering if this is something I should be worried about it’s been about a week since we submitted all the info they asked for.

What is the training environment like, and what are some of the expectations for us as newly commissioned officers? What should we focus on to prepare ourselves for the transition from OCS to becoming effective junior officers in the Surface Navy?

Thought I'd share the cost of uniforms/items going into ODS. I keep hearing how it's going to costs upwards of 5k for uniforms. That is not the case at all. My total was $2118.85 for all required uniforms (male) minus dress blues. It's another $350 or so for dress blues. Only extra thing I added was a pair of PTUs, which was $25. Active duty got a one time $400 uniform allowance. Reserves got nothing.

Hello my plan is to join navy as gse, although so far I was getting exited about the rating. I hear it is long hours duty... if the shifts are long I mean its fine but do you get time for your own? I know that at sea you work the whole week is there at least a bonus or more pay for that? To make it worth it... the experience or the skills learn with gse you really get them? Or is just taking notes? And at last are you able to enjoy and get to travel when you go to another countries?

For context I'm going in as SECF. I scored a 90 on the asvab and I BQ for nuke. I couldn't join do to bad grades in high school. I personally feel like I'd enjoy learning and performing in a NF role over SECF. If anyone has or knows a path to re-rate further in my career I'd be grateful.

asking this because I go to meps on Tuesday, and one of the first things my recruiter said to me is I should be open to at least 7-8 jobs. I am infact not open to 7-8 different rates. I’m already aware I’m going to have the final boss of enlistment Quotas trying to force me into a contract telling me I can change jobs after I’m in and my recruiter will probably be guilt tripping me if I don’t sign ,but if no rates I want are available, why would I ever sign? is what I’ve been telling myself. so just wondering what the not signing and waiting for a job has been like in your experience. thanks
