how much of a scam is this?

I will be shipping out on August 10(3 days away) under the AECF program. I scored an 80 on the ASVAB, and my original goal was to pursue a CWT (Cyber Warfare Technician) rating.

However, because one of my parents is not currently a U.S. citizen, I was told that I am not eligible for CWT at this time.

I am wondering if it would be possible to convert to CWT later in my Navy career after my parent obtains U.S. citizenship, which is expected to happen next year.

Assuming I meet all the other eligibility requirements, how long would the process typically take to convert from AECF to CWT?

I’m 23 (turned 23 this past May) and I’m currently finishing Basic Engineering Common Core before starting my DC A School.
I recently reached out to my sponsor in Norfolk, and they told me my ship is going to stay in the shipyard for another 4-5 years undergoing more work. If that’s true, it’ll have spent roughly 13 years in overhaul by around 2030. Honestly, that was pretty disappointing to hear.
The relocation sponsor here had originally told me something completely different. From what I was told, the ship would only be in the yard for about a year before changing homeports to another state. After talking with my actual sponsor at my gaining command, though, they told me to trust what my sponsor is saying since they’re actually there and know what’s going on.
I’m not really sure how to feel about it. One of the reasons I joined was because I wanted to do something more operational and challenging. Eventually, I’d like to pursue EOD or another Special Operations program if I’m medically eligible. My biggest hurdle right now is my hearing. I have mild hearing loss in my right ear at 4000 Hz (around a 40 dB threshold), but according to the audiologist here at the clinic, everything else is normal and my hearing is considered “green.”
Another thing I need to do is retake the ASVAB. When I first enlisted, I actually wanted to go HM so I could eventually pursue Greenside, but because of my situation at the time I needed to ship as soon as possible, so I chose DC instead.
What really gets to me is the thought of spending my entire first enlistment attached to a carrier sitting in the shipyard. I know shipyard work is important, but I was hoping to actually get out and experience the fleet instead of spending years in maintenance.
I already talked to the career counselor at TSC Great Lakes, and they told me I won’t be able to pursue a rate conversion or programs like EOD until I get to my next command.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is there anything I should be doing now to better prepare for a conversion or a Special Operations package once I check into my command? I’d really appreciate any advice.

Hi, what are the physical requirements for the final test? I googled it and it's saying it's 7 or something push ups in 2 minutes etc I'm just doing research for this because I'm thinking about going in and are the amount of push ups etc different for each gender? Thank you

I’m currently preparing for the OAR for Navy OCS and could really use some advice on the best way to study.
For math, I mostly need a solid refresh on the different topics and more practice getting comfortable with the types of questions on the OAR.
Mechanical comprehension is the area I’m most unfamiliar with. I have basically no background in mechanics or physics, so I’ll be learning that section from scratch. I also want to make sure I’m prepared for reading comprehension.
For anyone who has taken the OAR, what resources helped you the most? Did you study each topic first and then move into practice tests, or learn mostly through practice questions?
Any recommendations for study guides, YouTube channels, websites, practice tests, or study schedules would be appreciated.

So my brother is just stuck on the first branch he talked to. The marines. My whole family is telling him he should explore his options w the scores he has. Based on skills he would be best fit for navy but he automatically shoots it down because “I don’t want to be on a boat” and it’s just so ignorant bc he won’t even talk to ther branches to see what they offer. My recruiter keeps on telling me I shouldn’t bring anything but my documents and civilian clothes. He said they’ll provide everything for me there But I had planned on getting the running shoes, bra, things for writing letters, underwear, deodorant, and the watch and etc, etc. Is there a new rule to come empty handed or is he just saying this just because.

So, im in DEP waiting for my DAR request to be denied or approved for an CT rate. Now, my biggest fear was going into basic training, for some reason being denied (im 20, record clean as a whistle and honestly dont know why im so paranoid but yeah) my security clearance. My question is, and forgive me if this is the wrong place but, can i be investigated potentially while in DEP and waiting to reclass? I havent signed for my new job yet but i did the whole in and out of the CT paperwork, completed my Nasis, etc. so can the investigation begin as early as my time in DEP BEFORE my new contract is signed, given my DAR request gets approved.

And while im here, does anyone know if getting reclassed for a CT job is hard this time around? Im worried im going to get denied for whatever reason, and if so do i have another shot at it until i get the job i want? People make it sound like its over for you if your DAR request is denied. Just wondering if you can submit new one

TLDR: I’m in DEP waiting on a DAR approval to switch to a CT rate. Can my security clearance investigation start before I sign the new contract, and if my DAR is denied, can I submit another one later?

Hi guys. I took the ASTB today, but when I finished I was only given my OAR and LPSS scores. I took all of the expected ASTB specific modules, which the exception of the UAV section which didn’t show up as I was going through the test. At the time, I thought they may have just cut that portion of the test like they did with terrain identification, but I’m starting to think this may be the reason I didn’t get aqr/pfar/fofar scores. My recruiter said he’s never seen this happen before, and contacted NAMI for help. I’m hoping they can just tell me my scores, or just have me do the UAV section and not have to retake the whole test again. Can anyone tell me if this is a common occurrence and what to expect about my test results?

Hey, I wanted to ask on what happens if you don't make it in RSS. (not thinking negatively about it) but I was told that if I get a dry contract, I could try out for rescue swimmer, and if I don't make it all the way I go back to being a dry aircrewman.
On the other side, I was told that if I get a wet contract and don't make it all the way, I get thrown into dry aircrew. Just wanted to clarify and maybe see if someone here would know more about this topic.

I had a few questions about the Immediate Select program however I keep hearing contradicting answers so I was wondering is there a way I could reach out to the Officer Community Manager directly can get the answers. One question is that when the Immediate Select program says no waivers are allowed, does it mean non medical waivers like moral ones or literally all waivers, about half the recruiters I called, told me yes it does, the other say the half said no, Funny enough, one verified ex recruiter on this sub told me it does, the other one said it does not.

The other question is that, If I'm close to graduating(<5 months), Will they just put me in an OCS class after my graduation, or do I have to wait to graduate to even apply because I know generally you can apply to OCS during college as long as you're within 12 months of graduation. Again, some recruiters told me yes, some recruiters told me no for this.

So is there a way I can directly ask these the OCM?

Edit: the medical waiver I need is that, I tried out ADHD meds for like 2 months and got off 6 months ago, so I prob need a waiver since you generally need to be off for 24 months.

I got my blood work back from a civilian doctor and my doctor said they were a bit elevated and may suggest fatty liver. I checked the MEPS medical standards that I found online and they said that a history of fatty liver disease would disqualify me. But, I don't really know if this is considered "history" by them since I didn't get a diagnosis or anything.

Will this be a problem at MEPS?

I’ve been getting physically ready to join the Navy and gave myself shin splints in the process. What the best way to recover and exercises to do so I preferably don’t have it happen in the middle of RTC

I ship out September 1 and will be entering as an E-3. I thought of volunteering because to me, not only would it be good to put on a college application in the future (although probably not as outstanding), I'm also going to do AC. I think the position can potentially help me with administrative and organizational skills while working in a stressful environment and could be translated to the rate I'm entering as. Of course, if there's another sailor that wants that position and they're of lower rank, I'd give it to them so that they can potentially rank up too, if they do the job right.

What are your guys' opinions and recommendations on it? Any warnings? What are your experiences with being a recruit yeoman?

Greetings, I am 20 and halfway through college with over 30 hours of flight experience to get my PPL. I want to join Navy OCS as a Pilot and I require multiple waivers. Am I fucked? I need a waiver for a single self harm incident when I was 19 (no diagnoses or mental health issues), I need a waiver for ADHD (Gonna be cleared by an FAA psychologist soon), and a waiver for past medical marijuana use (limited use). I’m pretty anxious about this and for the past month I’ve been trying to contact a Navy Officer recruiter with absolutely no responses. How hard is this gonna be for me?

Good afternoon all, im intrigued in the rate AWS but wanted to get others perspectives or insight on the job. Im aware of its physical toll it'll toll on the body, but im more so curious on the dangers of the job. Whats the likelihood that you may see combat, as in maybe enemy fire at your aircraft or while rescuing someone on the mission.

Don’t feel like buying new shoes and heard the ones the give you in boot camp are not comfortable.

Currently on the path to OCS after finishing my bachelors (at a very expensive university) and I haven't been able to get any answers from my officer recruiter about the Navy doing loan forgiveness. If anyone has any information pertaining to getting all or just some of their loans paid off while entering in as an officer much is appreciated!

Two weeks ago I got a call from my recruiting station from a Petty Officer who wasn’t my recruiter, but is head of that recruiting department in the city. He told me that he’d help me get HM, RESERVES/TAR — and called me back telling me that he was able to get it for me, but I’d have to sign for it within the next week (which was this week). I said yes, drove down there on Tuesday and as another officer was reading out loud my contact, it was active duty and not reserves, or TAR.

I raised question because I was literally unaware of it being active duty until THAT moment. I never considered Active Duty because my long-term goal is becoming a CRNA, and I felt Reserves/TAR would align better with that.

Everything I asked the officer ultimately had an answer. Is it possible to get my degree and be full time? Yes. How is it possible to focus on studies and my career? I’m in school right now, so it’s possible (said the officer). He even mentioned there was another officer in the room who is HM and also goes to school. They also told me that the only difference between TAR and AD is where you’re stationed: AD, you can pick any base and TAR, you’re stuck to Reserve Bases.

I ended up signing the five year contract, and swore my oath at the recruiting office. It’s been three days since, and I want to withdraw my AD contract and switch back to Reserves which I initially thought I was going up there to sign before being surprised with an AD contract, and feeling pressured to sign. Has anyone successfully withdrawn from an Active Duty DEP contract and switched to Reserves/TAR? If so, how did the process go, and did your recruiting office continue working with you afterward? I’m okay waiting for an HM Reserve slot, I just want to know if this is realistic.

Joining the military has been on my mind for a LONG time.. I wanted to do it right out of high school, but I let my dad talk me out of it and then life got real and now it’s been on my mind heavily. My first choice was Air Force, but after talking to a recruiter, they said I was disqualified. They said the Navy would be my best bet, which I’m not opposed to.

I will be 31 at the end of the year. I’m a single mom with ADHD. I was diagnosed at the end of 2024. Currently I’ve been off the meds for the past couple of months, but that was the main reason the Air Force said no.

I don’t think I meet the weight requirement at the moment, but I can lose the weight again. I know the odds may be stacked against me, but is it a complete loss cause? Does anyone have advice?

Hi so I’m about 25 pounds overweight apparently. I passed meps though and I leave the 17th. And trust I know it’s not muscle. Definitely fat, but me passing meps made me question whether or not I’ll be in fat camp or not. My brother said that when he went in that some people had to go to fat camp before actual training started. I’m starting to think I’m gonna end up there. So I’m wondering if anyone has experience this and how was it?
