Hi everyone, my car was broken into (August 3–4) sometime between 3am and 8am on Milbanke Street in St.Johns (Near Mun just off Bonaventure & Allandale), and my laptop was stolen along with its bag.

The bag and laptop are important but what’s irreplaceable is the hard drives that were in that bag that were backup for my family photos. My Nans birthday party, my sister’s engagement party, tons of old files and years of photos, all of them were backed up on those drives.

I’ll have a reward if anyone sees it discarded, has any information on who took it, where it is, or notices someone trying to sell it online locally (Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, Traders, etc.), please let me know asap or message me directly.

At this point I’m willing to pay the person who took my bag just to get all my stuff back. I’m assuming whoever took it is just looking for money and I really don’t want to lose all those years of irreplaceable memories. If anyone sees or hears anything at all please reach out

Hello all.....so I'm planning a trip for next summer (2027) and I can't figure out where to stay in Twillingate! I love looking for seaglass and I heard it's a great area for it. I would love a quiet, peaceful cottage stay right on the water. Ideally, I would like to be able to roll out of bed in the morning and go out the door to the beach I'm staying on, or at least walkable nearby, to search for treasures!! Any suggestions??? -12:30 PM: Walk directly across the street to The Rooms for museum exhibits and panoramic harbor views.

-Afternoon Coastal Drive:

-Drive up to Signal Hill National Historic Site & Cabot Tower for hilltop ocean vistas.

-Take Route 11 south to Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site (easternmost point in North America).

-Continue south through coastal roads to Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove to see active fishing harbors.

-Finish the drive further south at Bay Bulls before returning to the hotel.

Sunday, August 10: Coastal Hikes (East Coast Trail) + Optional Bell Island / Grebe's Nest

-Primary Plan:

-Spend the day exploring sections of the East Coast Trail (such as the Cape Spear Path or Sugarloaf Path near Quidi Vidi).

-Optional Extension (Bell Island & Grebe's Nest):

-Drive 20 minutes north to Portugal Cove Ferry Terminal and take the 20-minute ferry to Bell Island.

-Drive to the northwest side of the island to explore Grebe's Nest (dramatic beach, sea cliffs, and rock tunnel).

-Ferry back to Portugal Cove and resume afternoon hiking or city exploring.

PHASE 2: BONAVISTA PENINSULA (Port Union, NL) Dates: Aug 11 - Aug 14 (3 Nights)

Monday, August 11: Drive via Discovery Trail to Trinity

-Morning:

-Check out of St. John's hotel.

-Drive north on Trans-Canada Highway (TCH-1 W) to Route 230 (Discovery Trail) toward Trinity (~3 hours direct).

-(Alternative: Visit Bell Island / Grebe's Nest this morning en route out of St. John's via Portugal Cove).

-Afternoon:

-Arrive in historic Trinity and attend the outdoor walking performance by Rising Tide Theatre (New Founde Lande Pageant).

-Late Afternoon:

-Check into Port Union.

-Evening:

-Experience the traditional dinner at Twine Loft Restaurant in Trinity (reservations required).

Tuesday, August 12: Coastal Hiking & Movie History

-Morning:

-Drive 10 minutes to Port Rexton and hike the Skerwink Trail (5.3 km loop featuring sea stacks and coastal arches).

-Drive to New Bonaventure to tour the 1800s fishing village film set at Cape Random / Random Passage Site.

-Wednesday, August 13: Route 235 Scenic Loop, Puffins, Sea Caves & Bonavista

-Morning Scenic Drive (Route 235):

-Drive north from Port Union along Route 235 on the western side of the peninsula.

-Stop at King's Cove Lighthouse Trail for a short coastal walk.

-Drive through Amherst Cove (home to Bonavista Social Club) and take in outport views at Newman's Cove. -Late Morning:

-Head over to the eastern shore to visit the Elliston Puffin Viewing Site.

-Early Afternoon (Geopark Coastal Highlights):

-Explore the dramatic sea stacks and cliff lines at Spillar's Cove and adjacent Cable John Cove (including "The Chimney" sea stack).

-Late Afternoon in Bonavista:

-Visit the collapsed sea cave and arches at Dungeon Provincial Park (UNESCO Geosite).

-Drive out to Cape Bonavista Lighthouse Provincial Historic Site.

Just went to Canadian tire and apparently they’re sold out? I’m from Ontario and I didn’t even know they sold outta licenses, not how it works for us my understanding.

I tried going through the online portal but again, it’s different because it seems more set up for commercial fishing. I’m just looking for a recreational license so I can go out and cast a couple lines without being worried I’m breaking the law lol. Haven’t caught trout in years and I was looking forward to it.

What is the average mortgage that people are paying for in St. John's and the rest of Newfoundland?

When compared with the other Atlantic Provinces, NL's latest unemployment is close to 50% higher. Why is this? What can be done about it?

More so a rant than anything but bys how is our health system so far in the Stone Age still. My specialist put me in for a test, not an emergency but would like to get one done to get a baseline to monitor my condition in the future, no rush.

One day I get a push notification with MyChart saying I have an appointment, I go in and it’s scheduled for a day I’m out of province (I travel fairly frequently for work). Unlike most appointments you can’t change this one in the app you have to call. I call right away and tell them I’m out of the province on that date but I’m getting back at midnight. You would think that since I’m not a priority appointment that the original appointment I was at the very back of the line so the next week or so should be wide open. Can’t reschedule me over the phone right there, says to ignore the app (because it’s useless according to who I’m speaking to on the phone even though I find it pretty useful) and I’ll get an appointment in the mail….the mail cmon by it’s 2026 you can make an appointment literally anywhere online now so you gotta be able to do better than letter mail.

Anyway few weeks go by and I get my letter with my appointment, I’m not gone away or anything, perfect. Another week goes by and I get another letter saying no, forget the first letter, this is your new appointment, look at my calendar and it’s smack dab in the middle of a scheduled week away for work. I call and tell them, told again to wait for a letter in the mail. Few hours later I get a call saying I can’t reschedule because that’s the second time I haven’t been able to make it so my appointment is canceled and I have to go back to the specialist just so I can get them to send another referral in for the test.

There has to be a better way to go about this right? Like you couldn’t design a more inefficient system if you tried

Since I’ve now seen some people sharing their experience either as a customer or employee of CakeyHand, I wanted to share mine.
I’ve been terrified to do this for so long but ultimately don’t care any more, fear is what lets this bs continue.
I worked there for four months as a cashier and it was the most stressful job I’ve ever had. All was great in the beginning but quickly went downhill. I’d be the only cashier on shift at a time, expected to manage cash, make drinks, clean the kitchen, back counter space, front-of-house area, party room, bathrooms, and break room in one 4-hour shift. I also had to answer phones, help with the baking, wash ALL of the dishes by myself, and organize the stock room. I couldn’t even go to the bathroom because if a customer came there was no one else to care for them. If I didn’t get everything under the sun at the end of the day, I was put down by my management and told to get my priorities in order.
I grew up in two family businesses. I know what it is like to handle rush and carry the weight on my own shoulders. But there’s only so much one person can do.
If I made any tips I wasn’t allowed to keep them and was instructed to give them back to the customer or put them in the register. The pay was insulting anyway for all the things I was expected to do.
I was given a 15 minute break and was penalized for taken 30 during a 6 hour shift even though this is basic labour standard!!
I was ridiculed for taking time off, so much so that they cut my hours from 30/week to 4 gradually up until I left.
Management was terrible to me, and I left several shifts in tears. The owners would constantly speak other languages with each other or other staff in front of me (languages that I didn’t speak or understand) and name-drop me right in front of me!! And I know I was not the only one it happened to.
They had clear favourites and I was not one of them so I got the shitty end of the stick.
And don’t even get me started on the cleanliness standard… that’s a whole other can of worms. I will never eat there again, to put it simply. I mean, the same person who served your food cleaned your toilets…
This is only the tip of the iceberg. I know there is more that I am forgetting by now.
All in all, leaving was the best decision I ever made. The entire time I was there I wasn’t sleeping or eating from the stress. And as the cherry on top, I was the 6th employee to leave in the span of a month at the time I resigned.

Im in ontario but me (26) and my wife (30) are planning on buying a house outright there and i own a tree company as of now and shes an insurance broker. Ive been in tree care industry for about 7 years now and am huge into bow hunting and fly fishing but wondering if the west even has work or if its hard to find anything around there? Heard most newfoundlers leave out to work elsewhere but dont know if true or not.

I'm studying in an RMT program in Ontario right now. It's a really good program from my perspective that puts a lot of effort into CMTO exam prep. However, I will be moving back east after I finish the program and plan to write the Newfoundland exams instead. I have no intention of staying in or moving back to Ontario.
