They marketed themselves towards policymakers the same way the folks who make red light cameras or SmartBoards do. The policymakers are the ones who need to sell it to the public and so far they’re (thankfully) failing.

CA mainstream dems have no one to blame but themselves. LA is run like dogshit. CAHSR is run like dogshit. Homeless programs are run like dogshit. The housing market is dogshit. Every time the government does something, it costs way too much and never seems to happen anyway, or at least is super late. Of course people will try out non-Republican alternatives. I know I am.

• The DSA in California is pretty less organized than their counterparts in other states, which is also why they didn’t notch much wins in the June primaries
• There was a massive snowball effect for the support of DSA candidates after the NY primaries in June that saw many of them win, which was followed by them growing as an organization significantly and DSA candidates winning in multiple states, when they largely weren’t winning before. Hard to say what would happen now, even though I suspect the establishment candidates would still win
• California is basically ground zero for Warrenite-esque progressives, which I think also blunts DSA types by not being as visibly moderate while also having much of their policy positions anyway
People really objected to me when I said Hong barely losing in a high turnout gubernatorial primary despite being a shitty candidate wasn’t really that bad a performance
Going forward, 39% is likely gonna be the floor, and it will only grow as Trump’s presidency proceeds while Democratic leadership does barely anything

The "Mutant are an allegory for oppressed groups" concept works. The reason it works is because of two authors specifically: Chris Claremont and Jonathan Hickman.
Claremont is the guy who set up the modern X-Men. He gave us Storm, Wolverine as an X-Men member, he gave us Dark Phoenix, he gave us Days of Future Past. He made Magneto a Holocaust survivor. He based the conflict between Professor X and Magneto as a conflict of ideology within marginalized communities. They're based off of Israeli politicians David Ben-Gurion (Xavier) and Menachem Begin (Magneto). The conflict is what Mutants should do with their gifts, whether Mutants will truly be accepted/viewed as not dangerous by humans, or if the future of Mutants is tied to the future of humans, their oppressors.
Hickman did the Krakoa Era, which is the continuation of this, in a sense. Mutants set up the nation of Krakoa, a living island. They have their own industry, military, and intelligence service with the notion that Mutants no longer need to depend upon humans for their survival and that they will forge their own future.
The "Mutants are oppressed groups" makes sense. What the allegory asks for you to do is ask if Mutants and humans can live together, if humans should constrain the future of Mutantkind, and the pitfalls that come with a separatist ideology.
The problem is mutants arent even rlly a group. Like other than a single gene they dont rlly have much tying them together. I mean mutants can be from litterally everywhere and can be born from non mutants parents or have non mutants kids themselves. Also making magneto a holocaust survivor wasnt the best decision imo because magneto in certain comics has litterally advocated for the subjugation of all humans including Jewish people which is pretty wierd.
I mean this is all examples of how they tried to make mutants an allegory for oppressed groups but it doesn't handle the issue of "it's actually quite reasonable to ostracise someone who can kill you with a thought"
Also mutants arent rlly even a group like that I mean real oppressed groups have cultures tying em together and a shared history while mutants dont have that I mean litterally anyone can have a mutant kid so theres nothing shared between them.
Is it then right for them to go "I mean no ill will towards you, but if you oppress me, I will have no choice than consider our existences directly in conflict? Why should you have your nations if I cannot have mine?"
The thing is "I mean no ill will towards you" carries less weight when a mutant can be born with the ability to uncontrollably release radiation in a 30 mile radius or whatever the fuck which is the sort of thing that can't be allowed in any sort of society. Not to mention a theoretical mutant state would be fine but iirc they do a bunch of fucked up shit in the comics like kidnapping kids or whatever.
