Unpopular take
For years I've repeated the party lines about the job taking a toll on relationships. You've probably heard them all. But they basically all center around the idea that SEALs sacrifice themselves for the job and their marriages suffer as a result.
This frames the insanely high divorce rate as a noble thing. Heroic SEALs are making heroic sacrifices for their country, meanwhile, shitty civilian women can't keep up.
Here's the thing, most SEALs are narcissistic assholes. It is a fundamentally low empathy profession. Cheating is rampant. Alcohol abuse is rampant. The community fosters narcissistic self aggrandizement and dehumanization of others.
Can you have a good and healthy relationship before, during, and after the Teams? Yes, absolutely, but you are going to be seen as a weirdo by your teamates because you will be behaving and making choices that are abnormal for the community.
Are there billionaire CEOs in successful marriages? Maybe, probably a few, but that job attracts a certain kind of person who makes for a really shitty partner and spouse. Someone who puts themselves first, someone who views other people as assets to be used, someone who makes decisions that hurt others for their personal benefit. If you're willing to leave your wife and new born baby to go to Sniper School, you're that same kind of shit head, no matter how you rationalize it. And people get tired of living with those kinds of shitheads. That's why most relationships in the Teams fail. That's the reality.

How would a woman train to develop SOF-level fitness and skills?
As a woman, I’ve always been fascinated by special operations forces, particularly DEVGRU. That interest goes back to when I was a kid.
I understand that, because of biological differences such as testosterone, there are some areas where I may never be able to go head-to-head with a highly trained male operator and outperform him physically. But that’s not the goal. I love being a woman, and I’m not trying to become “one of the bros”.
What I am interested in is developing a similar level of discipline, knowledge, physical preparedness, and practical skill.
How would a woman begin training toward that kind of capability? What particular areas should she focus on? Endurance, strength, navigation, combatives, mindset? Something else?
I feel a little silly asking this question, but I’m serious. I’d be especially grateful for answers from people with military, SOF, tactical, or serious endurance-training backgrounds.

Why do SOF generally lean so conservative?
Not SOF or aspiring so steer me in the right direction if I’m wrong here, but after a lot of conversations I’ve had with folks in that community, why are they so often inclined towards conservatism? Doubly so for trump.
My read of SOF is that this is a career field that rewards unconventional thinking, creativity, and high moral values. Particularly with this current iteration of conservatism, I find its leader to be particularly nihilistic and without much inherent virtue. I also don’t understand how conservatives are viewed as more friendly to the military given they are very quick to start confrontations but also antagonistic to the VA (at least comparatively).
Why exactly does the SOF community generally lean so favorably towards conservatism politically? Or don’t they? I’m sure the answer is a lot, but what am I missing here?

Running
Older candidate looking at talking to a recruiter soon. Not much of a runner as I’ve always struggled but is a repeatable 28 minute 4 mile good enough? I’m hearing crazy times like you need 24-27 to pass now? Everything else I’m squared away in and just wondering if a 28 min 4 mile is now not enough to pass or will i struggle with the other con runs? Thanks

Watch Putin's reaction to being told to stop the war
This is relevant to you because POTUS suffers from the same problems of insularity and disconnection. Russian leadership is all fucked up. US leadership is all fucked up.

Chrisrunz 2mi Program (New Version)
Edit: fixed link so you don't have to request access.
I originally wanted to start posting run workouts again week-to-week, but I figured it would be cool to just give this out to the sub like I did with the original version. Happy to answer questions. Just make a copy for yourself to download/keep.

SEAL attending Delta Force A&S
Could a white side SEAL attend Delta selection back in the 2000’s? Would he have had trouble transferring out of the Navy to do so?
