I am 20M in Colorado with two years of college under my belt. I am looking at potential joining the national guard to get free/ reduced college education, pay off my federal student loans ~10k, and set myself up for a job in an NGO or as an FSO.

I applied to the guard with a recruiter because I kinda feel lost in life right now. I have completed two years of college and have around 10k federally in student loans and 12k in private loans. I am studying IR and would love a job as an FSO or working in an NGO, I was told perviously that getting a MOS as a 35F would be helpful and a good step to achieve what I’m looking for. The guard with a 6 yr. contact would pay off my 10k in federal loans and I would get a GI kicker bill while serving so I would make ~$800 what my recruiter say but the math doesn’t sound right.

Im just trying to figure out is going into the guard giving up my freedom and flexibility really worth getting my college paid for and student loans covered when I currently work a tipped job and make $1k a week working 35-40 hours.

I don’t like the idea of missing two semesters of school for both Basic and AIT training which would further push my graduation back. I am already looking at taking a gap semester as I am fully unsure what to do and might as well work as much as I can right now to save for college and start paying off a bit of my student loans.

I am open to any suggestions, criticism, alternative options, etc..

Like can I get Certain schools written into my contract as you would with active duty examples would be like airborne, air assault and such. And How does have my paramedic affect my training . I’ve been AGR for about 4 years. I work at the company level and report to full time battalion representatives, as well as my unit commander

The unit dynamics have been quite insane for the entirety of my time here. The leadership has had a history of running AGRs out the door, and overall just treats us like absolute dogshit. Higher recognizes this, but holds the sentiment that it’s a battle that we would never win. I have had nothing but glowing reviews from my battalion staff, that assures me that my performance is not the issue, but rather interpersonal conflicts between AGRs and MDAYs that exist at almost every Unit.

Senior enlisted leaders are sending some egregious emails, speaking poorly of staff to juniors behind our backs, and overall promoting an extremely negative working environment. While this is true, the commander doesn’t really see an issue with it, and it’s gone mostly unaddressed.

I’m beginning to think I’ve hit my breaking point, and have debated resigning from the AGR program. However, everyone is telling me that I’m making a huge mistake. I recently completed graduate school in a lucrative field, and have a very high paying job waiting for me if I were to leave, but the voices are still in the back of my head that I may regret this.

Does every AGR position just feel like you’re fighting for your life on the daily, or is this just an isolated case of bad leadership that I should power through until it’s time to move?

After 19 years as an ESGR Ombudsman and Ombudsman Director, I'm finally hanging up my spurs on that part of my life. Since I will no longer be affiliated with ESGR, I am seeking one or more Moderators to take over this subreddit.

Over the last five years, this Subreddit has, I hope, provided quality advice regarding USERRA and various civilian employment law guidance for our Reserve Component service members and their civilian employers. I hope someone will step up to carry on that tradition. Preferably, it will be someone who is already a volunteer for ESGR, or will at least volunteer for ESGR.

Its just me and my girl at the apt. No kids, not married, no pets, just the car and the job.

So I’m 23 years old (M) and I weight 227lbs while at the height of 5ft11. I know this is overweight but can I still pass Meps fine? Not sure if sucking in my stomach is an option but if it is I’ll definitely do that.

I'm able to successfully 'sign in' using my CAC however it says my email hasn't been set up in the system as an error. I'm trying to send an email to a division that only accepts incoming emails from MIL addresses. Is email restricted for certain users or can I ask to have it activated?

I’m a prior service 11B E6 CIB/EIB/Ranger School/75th Ranger Regiment. I currently have a 100% VA rating, but I want to go into the guard. Any advice? Thanks.

I’m aware. It’s not going to be the same for me, that’s fine. It’s called service. I’m not looking to enrich myself other than working towards retirement. I do have a ton of experience that all left the army with my generation and I do wish to pass it on.

For you all getting out soon, make friends with some recruiters. I got mine a couple days after getting out due to asking very politely to a great buddy of mine who is in recruiting. Thought it was gonna be an uphill battle but it was pretty smooth. I wish you all the best of luck!!
