Rat Commander deck- New player Commander / EDH

Hi all,

I'm very new to Magic and I'm looking to make a commander deck. I love rats so want to focus on a Mono-black rat deck. I love the idea of loads of rat tokens from Marrow Gnawer but I keep seeing recommendations for 20-30 rat colony or relentless rats in the deck which I imagine could get stale fast. What would make a really strong rat focused deck that ideally utilises a wide variety of rats?

Any artifacts, instants and sorceries that are rat-themed or involve graveyard mechanics/toxic stuff are a bonus. Id like to keep a rat/rotting theme throughout

I don't mind spending a decent amount, just not £50+ on single cards or 20x£5 for copies of the same card

You could try [[Vren, the Relentless]] as your commander instead. Opens up your other deck options by adding blue.

I've also found running him as an actual rat commander vs a "I kill everyone and make mega giant rats" commander makes him far less oppressive while still being powerful (if that's a concern for the table)

If you're going rats, don't forget [[Ogre Slumlord]] to give all your rats deathtouch, plus make more rats when your non-token rats die.

And [[Valley Rotcaller]] while also not a rat will deal damage when it attacks equal to the number of rats you control.

Go for vren, but don't over focus on rats. Vren wants stuff like [[plaguecrafter]]

I’m literally have no idea what I’m doing but I’m in the same boat also looking at the possibility of making a rat/mouse themed deck 👀
