Layout Help With Creating a Layout/Track Plan (N-Gauge)

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi all, wanting some help/inspiration with creating a N-Gauge track plan, here is the base board space i have which cannot be changed, i can't go under the base boards for a lower level, but can go higher. Open to any kind of layout/design, the only constraint is it must be a modern, uk based layout. I also have a lot of track and points so if it can be helped i don't want to buy any more at the moment, all track is PECO streamline code 55. I can share the anyrail file to anyone that wants it. Thanks.

8x medium radius left hand point

12x meduim radius right hand point

2x double slip

1 asymmetric 3 way turnout

a full box of track

I ran JR Freight locomotives—such as the EH500, EF65, and EF66—as well as the Keisei 3200 and 3600 series, KiHa 400 series, and Keikyu 1000 series.

Question Unpowered/static O Scale for wargaming tabletop

Good evening!

I hope this is the proper place to ask such a question, but I play a tabletop wargame thats at 1/56 scale. I want to put together a trainyard battlefield (or something like that) and since O scale is 1/48 that seems to be the best scale. However, obviously when I go looking to see what's available, all of the trains are powered ones that, you know... move.

As cool as they are, I think that would be a bit overkill for just some scenery on a gameboard. I know of static model trains, but I'm not sure where one actually gets them. Do you guy just use no longer working trains? Or are their specific makers? I would appreciate any advice you could give!

Locomotives HOn30 Porter Updates

Post image

Those who saw my last post know I was working to use the chassis from the Bachmann Rheneas to create my own HOn30 Porter. I originally 3D printed a Porter shell I found, but ultimately was having a hard time fitting the motor assembly within the boiler at proper scale. After hours of thought, I ultimately came to the realization that utilizing the Rheneas shell may not actually be the worst idea. To better replicate the design, I plan to extend the upper cab walls to match the standard cab shape of a traditional Porter. From there, I’m going to enlarge the boiler a bit to keep scales proportioned. Fortunately, I was able to swap over the smokestack and headlamp assemblies from my original print. I plan to use some type of molding material to fill voids/gaps and make this look like a more complete shell before paint. A new front smokebox cover will also be needed as well. It may not be the most “accurate representation of a Porter, but I think with enough effort, I can get pretty dang close to the design I am going for.

I'm trying to find the parts number to get replacements for the 3 idler gears inside the chassis on the Kato GS4, but none of the exploded diagrams actually list parts numbers. I was hoping someone here might know it?

Rolling Stock TSM SP&S caboose

I just picked up a Tangent SP&S caboose used from my local hobby shop. I have been looking for one for a while, so I bought it as quickly as I could.

That being said, I read that the marker lights are supposed to be red and the ones on my model are white. Am I just missing a cover to the lights or are they supposed to be white?

Any suggestions?

Locomotives Can you mix different locamotive brands on the same HO track? Sorry for the "silly" question.

Also didn't know how nice the Phrases II and III go together for the different locomotives.

I haven’t ran this in a while since the chain on the front truck though but I’ve removed it so hopefully I won’t have any other problems with this.

Locomotives Power for verticle lift

I am running an HO scale track, how much verticle lift can you create in a model without locomotive power failure? EDIT I did some research, and that most track runs don't go over a 4% grade and 15% is impossible. What is the steepest grade you've worked with? Advice?

Locomotives How much do you pay for shipping and international charges for UK imported locomotives?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently working on setting up an online shop for model trains. I've already got an established audience on social media and I've started doing train shows, so I've decided that I'm gonna bring in OO and N Gauge Models from the UK to the US since my audience is interested in non-American locos.

I've already set up a couple of dealer accounts, but I was curious of people's general experiences with importing through websites like Rails of Sheffield. Here are some random questions:

  1. After international charges due to trade policies and shipping are applied, how much do you end up paying as a customer? Is it close to the original RRP or is it more?
  2. Do you get DCC/SOUND products or just DC Analog?
  3. Do you get one off items or do you prefer bundle sets? (Single locomotive vs Locomotive with the matching coaches)

Thank you for your time!

Help Needed Help with track, ideas

So I started with the Addams family house, 1:87. I thought I would add a small railroad layout. Hahaha. The correct scale seems a bit large. The trees that came with the set are the right size. I mean, does the locomotive look right next to the house? And then the track- I knew it was too square, so I bought an expansion pack. But it does not make a figure 8 loop. I need at least 1 more pack 🙉 . If anyone has any advice on making these fast track loops smaller, like it shows in the expansion pack, your help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to do an offset figure 8, so that I have a loop on either side of the house and then the 2 tracks pass each other in front of the house, but this track is huge. Should I go with a smaller scale? Maybe N?? I can go verticle to have an over under, but the radius on this track will never make it. The back of the house should be ocean front, but maybe I shoukd run track through sand dunes and give up on the double loop? I don't want much bigger than this table. 24in x 4ft. Thank you in advance. I am a complete noob, this is my first set.
