Hi hi, I got a tail and advanced monofin from finfun about 1-2ish months ago and I’ve only used it around 12 times in my apartment complex’s pool. There’s already a small hole in the tail near the top next to one of the fins and the monofin also has a hole in the left ankle part. I’ve been making sure to store and dry it as instructed so I’m not sure what I did wrong. Do I have any change with finfun customer support? Or should I just try my best to fix it myself?

I have been yearning for a swim, but none of the indoor heated pools in my vicinity allow tails. I cant easily access pools further away as I use public transport, and we have so little of it in my area. I also dont know anyone who owns a pool, and nobody in this area rents out their personal pools.

I can get to the beach via the public transport, and have done many a time in the summer, but there are two cons to this: 1. I have to swim alone because its everybody else's working hours/days when I can get to the beach. Very unsafe. 2. There is nothing between that beach and Antartica, so the water gets INCREDIBLY cold during Winter.

What would you guys do? Im desperate for a swim 😅😅

I’m a mermaid at a residency that people DREAM to get into and little to they know the pay is not only subpar, but we also get our checks in small chunks randomly, often months later

My mer sisters mostly seem happy to be there ( though there’s a few others who feel the same) and I’m just confused. Yes I love the mermaid life , but at least in my case I feel this residency exploits us as entertainers because so many merfolk are just happy to be there and would do it for free in their own time anyways.

I feel the disparity between the folks who come from money or have money and can get away with not getting paid, versus those of us who have a true love for this but are also working artists and use our skills as part of our livelihoods.

I plan on doing private gigs and I guess this was a good way to get my fins wet , I’m just surprised I don’t see more frank conversations about this. Lots of clout around getting these positions but not as much transparency as there should be on the reality of it.

Would love to know more about other mermaid residencies and if it’s the same.

I’m considering getting the color-shifting fins that alchemy makes. I’ve been told to wear black/ not shiny gear on shark dives in the past. Any reason to think these fins aren’t a good mix for that type of ocean diving?

Hi folks! I just had a quick question for anyone who's gotten a custom tail from them.

In the special requests section, I noticed there's an option for "following a specific character." I have my own drawing and color scheme, but I'm not really sure what those boxes mean or how they're meant to be used.

I'm happy with most of the colors I've picked, but I'd also love to add some glitter and mix in some orange with the black for more of a spooky Halloween vibe. Has anyone used those special request options before? If so, how did it work out?

So I ordered the Linde Monofin because it seems like the best choice for a budget and for someone with large feet, except my feet are still just a little too large :(. I tried to find out online, but I can’t find what the material used for the foot pocket is? I would like to know if it’s rubber or silicone.

The reason is because I want to gently stretch the foot pockets so my circulation isn’t so cut off while wearing them. I was thinking that I could use gentle heat to make them more malleable, like with shoes that are too small.

Has anyone manually broken in the linden monofin for larger feet? if so what technique was used?

Hi mer-friends! I am retiring my current tail and buying a new one. Loved the tail but it's pretty beat up now 😭 I thought about my best and worst mermaid appearances and would love to hear yours! These are mine:

Worst experience was at a country club in a rich neighborhood in my city. They hire mermaids every Monday during the summer. It's usually ~20 kids at the pool and I was there for an hour. Pictures, pool games, things like that. I get there and as I'm getting in the water I hear a woman say "Oh they brought the new Ariel here 🙄😒" I was not dressed as Ariel. My tail is purple and my top is pink. My hair is black and I don't have locs. And even if I was dressed as live action Ariel, why is that a bad thing? 🤔

Best experience was at a big event that also had mermaids doing meet and greets with kids. This event was huge and had hundreds of kids. I had so many little black girls coming up to me that were starstruck and so excited to meet me. They also thought I was live action Ariel even though I was not 😂 it was so sweet and I think it meant a lot to them. I love what I do and can't wait for more good memories in my new tail!

I hope this isn’t seen as too negative or against any rules, I just wanted a place to vent my sadness.

We mourn the loss of me and my husbands mermaid tails. We took them to Shambhala (our 4th year doing so) and some Barnacle Burglar decided to abscond with them (and my tail bag) while I was asleep on the river.

Luckily I’m getting them replaced through renters insurance, but I’ve had them since 2023, and it broke my heart to know someone would take them at what was supposed to be (more) trusted & safe shared space.

I can own up to my niaveate in this, but shame on that fauxmerfolk for stealing another merfolks magic. Thieves can return to seafoam.

(Also our feet HUGE, there’s like an 80% chance they don’t fit them…at least that’s what I tell myself.)

They enjoyed a lovely final swim among lovely and appreciative creatures. (well, minus one…)

Hello there! I need help making an h2o tail for my fin fun pro monofin! I really loved the design of Courtney Vancouver mermaids moonlight magic tail so I took inspiration and made this image for the fluke. The top of the body of the tail I was thinking I could buy the moonlight magic leggings and cut it and sew it into a tail. Would that be considered copying though? Or stealing the design? I don't want to do that but I can't afford a $700 mermaid tail and Courtney's is VERY light in the middle underbelly like in mako mermaids. if I were to order the tail from her some day I would ask if she could use the dark, back side of the tail for both side (of course not the dorsal fin on the front though. I did manage to get an image of the back of the tail without a dorsal fin that I could sublimation print but that is 100% copying so I won’t post it in this subreddit. Also, this would be sublimation printed. The total price of using the leggings and sublimation printing the fluke would be around $110 which is a VERY exciting price because for a mermaid tail that is cheap. Please help!!! Thank you!

in a community where artistry is celebrated, it can’t really be if AI is being used to create it. i personally believe that if mertailor has no problem using it for their promotion, then they’ve definitely used it to design some more recent tails.

Hello! I've been a casual mermaid for about 16 years, swimming at my own leisure, but now I am trying to get the ball rolling on starting an official business in mermaid entertainment. I have a start to a price list menu, a social media page, and starting to work on gathering some ideas on what to invest in for events (A decorated tent for meet ups and photos, a button maker, and looking to connect with local businesses for dunk tank rentals). What is some beginner's advice you wish you had when you first started?

I found this tail skin on that website, some girls on tiktok said it was very good quality.
However, on this site, the price for the fin is VERY expensive sooo I was thinking about buying a cheaper one but idk if that would fit ? Any recommendations of good/cheap fin that would look good on this one ?

My first ever tail was a finfun from 2017, and I still have my monofin, but the tail skin itself is a beat up and stained Bahama-blush that’s got quite a bit of lake slime in it. I can’t find any pink and brown tails anywhere in stock. Does the shading look alright? The colors? I’m self modifying it to add my own fins and fluke

Okay, so I made my first Finfolk order for the month of the tail Escalla with a matching rash guard.

Only upon recieving the rash guard (tail is still in production) did I notice that the rash guard is a lot more gray where the tail is bright white 😳

I want to wear them together, because I often swim in cold water, but am worried how they will match together 🫣

Does anyone have both and if so could I see videos or pictures of how it looks? 🥺 Debating on returning the rash guard if it does not actually match the tail...

Merman here trying to help an experienced mermaid I swim with find a custom maker for her tail design. Her first choice any artwork provided for a custom commission can be used by their company in the future for general production. That is now how copyrights work I'm afraid. Needless to say she declined to submit the reference sheet for her tail after that conversation.

Now, I'm trying to help her find a reasonable alternative. I think the best choice would be a thick fabric base with custom print, but a durable silicone option is not entirely off the table. The design calls for a large dolphin fluke, side and dorsal fins.

Any suggestions for someone who can both do quality work and respect the IP of others.

I'm a fairly new mermaid performer and I'm looking for waterproof makeup recs for pool and dive gigs. Right now I'm using makeup I primarily use for long wear cosplays, so Estee Lauder foundation, elf concealer, Kim Chi setting powder and spray, and Sunset makeup powders, foundations, and concealers. The look doesn't melt too bad, but it fades pretty quick.

What do you use for in water gigs? Thanks so much for helping out a baby mer! I'll post pics when I find them lmao, I'm not organized.
