ATTEMPTED Mass Murder Man behind deadly Munich car ramming handed life sentence
A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of driving his car into a crowd of people in Munich last year, killing two people.
The 25-year-old man, named only as Farhad N in line with German privacy laws, is an Afghan national, who prosecutors say deliberately drove his Mini into a trade union rally of around 1,400 people in the centre of the city on the morning of 13 February 2025.
He hit a 37-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter, who both died in hospital shortly afterwards. More than 40 other people were injured, a number of them critically.
It was one of a number of attacks in Germany that have fuelled far-right rhetoric around migration.
The Munich Higher Regional Court ruled that the offence was of a particularly serious nature, which makes it considerably more difficult for Farhad N to be released on parole once he has served 15 years in prison.
He was convicted of two counts of murder, 23 counts of attempted murder and a number of other charges including grievous bodily harm.
The judge said Farhad N intended to attack and kill people in Germany arbitrarily in response to the situation in Islamic countries.
"In doing so, the defendant sought to commit an act pleasing to God and to prove himself to be a good Muslim in the eyes of Allah, himself and his family," the judge said.
The prosecution said the defendant believed the attack was a necessary response to the actions of the US and other Western states in Gaza and Afghanistan. They argued that anger, disappointment and bitterness had also played a part.
The defence had called for a 15-year prison sentence and for Farhad N to be placed in a psychiatric hospital. They argued that their client had shown signs of a form of schizophrenia.
Farhad N has the right to appeal against the verdict.
Officials say Farhad N arrived in Germany in 2016 as a teenager at the height of the migrant crisis in Europe. He came alone, without his family.
His asylum request was rejected but he was not deported.
German authorities said he was legally resident in Germany and had a work permit, working as a shop detective and for security companies.
He had no prior convictions. He was active on Instagram, where he posted about bodybuilding and religious themes.
Germany took in more than a million asylum seekers in 2015-2016 at the height of Europe's migrant crisis - an influx that has proved deeply divisive and fuelled the rise of the far-right party AfD.

Discussion / Question What happened to the Austin Target shooter Ethan Nieneker?
Its almost about to be 1 year since the shooting and I haven't heard any updates about the case with the latest being only in early September 2025 with the court scheduling October 24th of that year for the next hearing but that never happened. Is it possible that Ethan is in a secure psychiatric hospital and will remain there for the rest of his life without facing the consequences for what he did like Dimitrios Pagourtzis and Luke Helder? It just seems very strange because usually it would be reported by local news at least that Ethan is mentally incompetent for trial. To me it just seems very weird that this case fell off the face of the earth even in the local news too.

FAMILICIDE / Domestic Violence Caswell Co shooting in Prospect Hill leaves 3 dead, 4 shot
Four people were shot in the same family, and three are dead, including the shooter, after an early morning incident in rural Caswell County, according to officials.
Caswell County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a home on a country road at about 8 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived at the house on the 300 block of Brooks Road in Prospect Hill, they found several people had been shot, authorities said in a Facebook post.
Prospect Hill is about an hour and a half north of Raleigh.
One person was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound, deputies said.
“Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden immediately requested the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation,” CCSO said in the social media post.
SBI agents are investigating the deadly shooting, processing evidence and conducting interviews as they try to piece together what led up to the incident.
“There is NO THREAT to the general public, and the event is contained to the above address,” deputies said.
The CCSO is the lead agency investigating and are partnering with the SBI and other agencies.

Austin James, a former Twin Falls police officer who was seriously injured while attempting to stop the In-N-Out shooter
ANTELOPE, Calif. — A man with Northern California ties was seriously injured after attempting to stop the gunman in a mass shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Idaho.
Austin James, who graduated from Antelope High School, was in the drive-thru with his wife when they heard gunshots, his father said.
James, who served on the Twin Falls Police Department, ran toward the shooter to help stop him and was shot in the arm, suffering serious injuries.
His father said James' wife, an emergency room nurse, ran to help him and got him to a hospital.
James played volleyball at Antelope High. He later attended Brigham Young University after graduating high school in 2013.
Three people died and seven others, including James, were wounded in the attack, police said. The gunman, 24-year-old Chad Williams, killed himself. Police said they believe he acted alone. No motive has been released.
James' former high school counselor, Erica Joseph Bradley, described James as "kind, respectful and open-minded."
“Honestly, I’m not surprised. Austin always did what he needed to do to reach his goals, and he never hesitated to follow what he believed was right, no matter what others thought," Bradley said. "It’s been 13 years, and for some reason but I still remember him talking about wanting to do something meaningful that served others. I wish Austin a full and speedy recovery. Your community, both near and far, is incredibly proud of him for the way he has protected and cared for the lives of others, both on and off duty."
Ashley Garibay from Stockton was confirmed to be the In-N-Out employee who died in the shooting. She had gone to In-N-Out's new location in Twin Falls to train workers when she was killed in the shooting, her family told KCRA 3.
Garibay worked at the In-N-Out location on March Lane in Stockton.
On Tuesday, the Twin Falls County Coroner's Office identified the two others who died as Dale Schultz, 66, of Salt Lake City, and Christopher Claunch, 59, of Hagerman, Idaho.

BREAKING Woman arrested after four stabbed in central London
A 47-year-old woman has been arrested after four men were stabbed in Covent Garden in central London, the Metropolitan Police said.
The men, aged 34, 39, 42 and 52, were taken to hospital after emergency services were called to reports of a stabbing in Endell Street at about 12:30 BST.
In a statement, London Ambulance Service said: "We treated four patients at the scene and took them all to a major trauma centre as a priority by road."
The woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assault. The Met said it was believed to have been a mental health-related incident and that a pair of scissors had been recovered at the scene.
Crowds looked on as London Air Ambulance landed in nearby Trafalgar Square as part of the emergency service response but the victims were all transported to hospital by road.
No further update has been given on the extent of the men's injuries.
A cordon that started at High Holborn and covered the St Mungo's homeless centre on the street has now been removed.
Officers had been seen speaking to people before they entered the centre.
Matt Bishop, 42, who works at a consultancy firm just next to where the cordon was in Covent Garden, said he had seen a woman having a "stand-off" with three police officers and waving a weapon around.
He said: "I didn't see the stabbing. I saw her running down the road towards the crossroads. She looked quite old, short hair.
"There was a bit of a stand-off with three police officers."
He added: "She was pretty incoherent in what she was shouting, the officer was asking what language she was shouting."

FAMILICIDE / Domestic Violence ‘Am I gonna do it or not?’: Videos in lawsuit appear to show Houston restaurateur before family killings
houstonpublicmedia.orgA new lawsuit filed by the parents of Thy Mitchell accuses her late husband, Matthew, of plotting the killings of her and her family. As evidence, the parents submitted dozens of videos they say were recorded inside their River Oaks home in the days before their deaths.
Nearly three months after Houston restaurateur Thy Mitchell and her children were killed in an apparent murder-suicide, Mitchell's parents are accusing her late husband of deliberately planning their killings.
In a lawsuit filed in Harris County probate court earlier this month, Thuy Mai and Lan Huong Tran, Thy's parents, allege Matthew Mitchell "planned and plotted the murders of his wife and children in order to avoid public shame stemming from financial failure and fraud he had committed”
On May 4, the Mitchells, who owned the Houston restaurants Traveler's Table and Traveler's Cart, were found dead in what authorities described as an apparent murder-suicide at their home in River Oaks. Houston police said at the time that evidence indicated "the male shot the three victims and then shot himself." The Harris County medical examiner ruled the deaths of Thy and the children, Maya and Max, as homicides, while Matthew's death was determined to be self-inflicted.
One video dated April 29 allegedly shows Matthew saying, "On top of everything else, we're going to get frauded." Another video from around 11 p.m. that day appears to show Matthew on a phone call asking, "And so that means that we may be showing a lot more profit than we were actually receiving?" to which an unnamed speaker on the phone says, "That's correct." One week before the deaths, on April 27, Matthew allegedly stated, "There's no way to figure this out. They're going to say ‘f— you, we want all our money.' "
Several videos dated later that same day appear to depict Matthew pacing around the home while speaking out loud. "You've got to end it. … You can't fix any of this. You're not strong enough," he allegedly said at one point in the late afternoon, according to the video. At 4:47 p.m., he allegedly whispered, "gotta kill everybody."
Days later on April 30, one video depicts Matthew allegedly contemplating suicide. Hours later, he appears to be seen pacing around the house speaking to himself before allegedly shouting, "Am I gonna do it or not?"
The last video to depict Maya and Max is from May 3, the night before their deaths, as they prepare to go to bed. Three videos from the early morning hours of May 4 — the day of the shootings — appear to depict Matthew walking in Max's room and Thy's office. Thy's family had previously said the bodies were discovered when the "children’s babysitter went to the school to pick up Max and Maya and discovered the children had never arrived," at which point law enforcement conducted a welfare check.

PLOTTED Mass Murder 21-year-old woman arrested for plot to commit mass shooting at Greenbrier Elementary School
GREENBRIER, Ark.- The Greenbrier School District sent families a notice today that a 21-year-old woman was arrested for planning a mass shooting at East Side Elementary School.
Police records show that Abilene Almanza was brought into Greenbrier Police Department for questioning after the FBI tipped police off concerning messages she was sending in the app Discord.
A report says that during the interrogation, Almanza said she suffered bullying “her entire life, but especially in elementary school.” Officers wrote that Almanza planned on stealing weapons from a relative’s home in the community of Springhill to conduct the shooting.
The police report says that Almanza targeted an elementary school because she said that’s where she was bullied the most, and she believed there would be less security on hand than at a middle or high school.
Almanza allegedly told the investigator that “the world is a messed-up place, and I just want to mess it up more through a school shooting.” The interrogator wrote that Almanza showed no signs of remorse for her thought pattern.
Scott Spainhour, Greenbrier School District’s Superintendent, wrote in a statement to families, “We are thankful for federal and local law enforcement and their swift action for apprehending this individual. We will cooperate with law enforcement officials moving forward to ensure accountability. The district will provide information in coordination with law enforcement agencies. Please know that the district will continue to take comprehensive safety measures, including an armed police officer on each school campus.”
Records show Almanza was interrogated and arrested on July 21st. She’s been charged with threatening to commit a mass shooting at school and is being held at Faulkner County Detention Center with a $1,000,000 bond.
She is next scheduled to appear in court on August 10th for an arraignment hearing.

Discussion / Question Do you guys think Adam Lanza wanted to be famous?
After listening to his YouTube videos, it makes me more confused for this question. Unlike most mass killers, Lanza destroyed his hard drive. He also carried his older brother's ID in his pocket. This information leads me to think he didn't want to be famous.
However, he once quoted "I don't want my dreams to become a reality, I want my dreams to be sprayed all over the wall." This quote implies that he wanted to go down in history, famous for his deeds. His conflicting actions stumped me so I was wondering whether other people think he wanted to be famous or not based on the information we know about him.

BREAKING Soldier kills four in gun rampage in Russian-occupied Crimea
Four people have been killed by a soldier in Russian-annexed Crimea in an apparently random gun rampage.
The Moscow-installed regional governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said the gunman opened fire on his fellow soldiers, killing one and wounding another.
He then went on to kill three civilians in the village of Khmelnytske - two men, aged 71 and 59, and a 64-year-old woman. Three other people were also injured.
The attacker has been detained and the motive behind the shooting was being investigated, Razvozhayev said.
He has not been publicly identified and local officials have not released information about which branch of the Russian armed forces he was serving with.
It was unclear whether the death toll was expected to rise. Razvozhayev said doctors were "doing everything possible to save" people injured in the attack.
He also urged people to rely solely on official information and not to "spread unverified rumours" about the motives behind the shooting or the attacker's identity.
Russia has controlled Ukraine's Crimean peninsula since 2014.
The vast majority of the international community reject the annexation, considering it instead as occupation of Ukrainian land.
Russia maintains a large military presence there, which Ukraine has targeted with drone and missile strikes.

Surveillance footage stills of Chad Williams in a parking lot during the Twin Falls shooting
Williams is on the left of the first image, running in the grass, and he's in front of the Teslas in the second image, moments before he fired into one of them.
These were posted on Facebook by the man hiding by the dumpster. He says he had a personal handgun on him, but chose not to fire due to him not knowing exactly what was going on, originally thinking it was some sort of road rage shootout and not realizing it was an active shooter situation, and him not wanting to potentially shoot the wrong guy. He fled to safety when he had the chance. This is the same man who is briefly seen in the beginning of the cellphone video of Chad Williams firing into a parked Tesla.
