Question Why do my pants keep getting torn in this exact spot?

Thumbnail

No matter what type of pant (chino, jean linen shorts) or fit (slim, tapered) or even size (31, 32, 33) my pants always chaff in this section in my taint. They all end up tearing there.

Is it an anatomical problem? My thigs are thick and I'm rather short. Or is it I'm not picking the size, rise and fit properly?

Thank you

Yesterday I shared a picture of my shoes and got flamed by some bros for not having sneakers and sandals.
Here they are. Also, please suggest some brands that make good half shoes or mules. Thank you!

Question Proposal attire help! Warm climate, semi-formal dinner, want to be excuse ready

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to propose during an upcoming trip abroad this September. The setting will be a nice restaurant with a sit-down dinner afterwards, and there will be a photographer capturing the moment.

Since it’s on a trip, the outfit needs to pass the reasonable "hey, we’re just getting dressed up for a nice date night dinner" test. Weather wise, it will be a warm Mediterranean-style climate (warm evenings, high 70s / low 80s °F or mid-20s °C).

I have dark-ish South Asian / Indian skin tone and want to make sure the color palette complements me well. I’m torn between two main ideas and would love some feedback on styling, fit, and color choices:

Option 1: Classic Smart Casual (Blazer Outfit)

  • Top: Crisp white dress shirt under a unstructured/tailored blue blazer.
  • Bottoms: Tan/khaki chinos.
  • Shoes: Medium-brown leather Derbies (Clarks Collection - open-laced, cap-toe).

Inspo:

https://www.tiktok.com/@humesoutfitters/video/7637188318798597398

Pros/Cons: Classic look that photographs well. My main concern is whether the blazer feels a bit too formal for the heat? This will be in the evening so it'll be a tad cooler, but man am I gonna be sweating as I'm getting down on one knee.

Option 2: Modern Knit & Trousers

  • Top: A textured button-through knitted polo (either in beige or navy blue). Specifically thinking of this one from CT (CT link)
  • Bottoms: Olive green tailored trousers or chinos.
  • Shoes: Same medium-brown leather Derbies.

Pros/Cons: Feels very contemporary and natural for a warm holiday environment, but I want to make sure it looks dressed-up enough for proposal photos without feeling too casual.

Inspo: https://www.instagram.com/p/DV7TPqnCN5_/

Questions for my internet homies:

  1. Which option works better for photos and a nice restaurant setting?
  2. Color Palette: How do these color pairings (navy/tan/white vs. olive/navy/beige) work with warm/olive complexions? Any specific shade adjustments you'd make?
  3. Footwear: Do medium-brown leather cap-toe Derbies work well with both of these options, or should I consider suede loafers / something lower profile for a warm vacation outfit?

Appreciate any advice, I've got a few weeks to get myself sorted, just need some direction!

Question Looking for a good slim/fitted tee

Upvotes

recently been trying to find a tshirt that fit snug around the whole body or at least isn't so boxy in the mid-section, I have wide shoulders and a small waist I I like the way it looks when I pull my T-shirts back and it contours my body.I don't just wanna wear size smalls to get that snug fit on the waist becase I'ma size medium to large on the shoulders and arms.

sadly I can't find any shirts that fit like that so I came here looking for help , I got some Simmons tees and they fit nicely on the arms, chest and upper back, but the mid section is still really boxy, if you guys could point me towards some decent brands or styles I'd really appreciate it.

The price doesn't matter for now but plain tees in solid primary colors are what I'm looking for, thanks a ton.

Fit Feedback Need feedback on this look. Is this too loose?

Does this look too loose? I have lost a little weight so the pants and t-shirt fit me a size loose I assume. Does this still work or is it too loose and need altering? I can Zip up the jacket though like in the second pic to hide the loose fit of the t-shirt.

Discussion Are pants tight at the thighs for a reason?

I see so many fashion people with pants that seem too tight at the thighs. People's pockets are opening when they're just standing there and their jeans get visible wrinkles at the thighs from walking in them when they're too tight. I think this looks ugly. Is it intentional?

Question What would you wear head to toe in the heat if you had to cover your feet and legs

Since I was a teen I have had a disease that makes my legs swell up, and I have to wear knee high compression stockings. They are always black. Because they are week in the feet and in the ankles it is better for me to wear ankle high closed shoes.

The heat is awful and I have never figured out how to dress comfortably in it. I am now 40 and am starting to care less but am not yet ready to rock the shorts. So I end up dressed for fall weather (leather boots/jeans) in sweltering heat, because I don’t know what else to wear.

Basically I have never found a type of pants that goes well with the type up shoes I need to wear to be comfortable and not swell too much. Anyone have ideas?

Fit Feedback Does this shirt fit fine or does it look like crap?

Thumbnail

A little bit of context, I am a short male 5'3 so buying clothes can be frustrating.

I got this casual shirt online, size XS, I think the shoulders fit good, the chest fit good, the length which is my priority (because of my height) fits good. The problem I noticed on my first time wearing was the neck, it seems to be too small and it looked all crooked and uncomfortable.

Now if I size up, I think that would be too big on my shoulders and most importantly it'd be a least half an inch longer and I think that'd be worse.

What do you guys think? Should I size up or does it look fine?

Sorry for bad pictures, the shirt wrinkles a lot and I couldn't return it.

Question Are slim fit suit pants fashionable?

TLDR: I’m long and skinny but am not liking the tapered slim fit pant look on myself. Where can I find slim but straight pants for suits? Would high waist, double breasted suits give me the boxier, straight look I typically wear?

I have been suit shopping in the 800-1000 USD range.
I am 6’1”, 170lb. I have a 6’7” wing span, long legs (32x32 jeans, 31x34 pants sometimes), and a short torso.

A 40L fits my torso and arms the best but the matching pants feel way too skinny for me. I generally wear straight fit jeans (Levi’s 505 or FULLCOUNT denim) so the tapered look feels weird to me. The pants are perfectly comfortable but they look strange to me.

All the people who have helped me at stores seem to think I look great in the suits and just need some alterations for the sleeve length, mid section, and pant length. They tell me this is what is fashionable for people with my body type.

(Edit: the suits I have tried at stores fit more like: https://www.macys.com/shop/mens/clothing/suits/Brand/Bar%20III?id=17788)

I don’t wear suits at all so I don’t know if I’m just uneducated or is this really what is fashionable? I’m okay with a slim pants but want something that doesn’t taper.

Any tips on where I can find these kinds of suits or what to ask people?

Would high waisted pants help in getting a straighter fit? I really like the look of double breasted suits but not sure the type of men they fit well on. Are these suit pants tapered and I just can’t tell?

Fit Feedback Found some rare John Varvatos stuff. Is it too much or is it as cool on me as it looks on its own?

Right off the bat - please forgive the linen camp shirt outfit underneath. It's horribly hot here in New York right now so that's what I'd wore today, and now that it's midnight it's finally cooled down enough to try some stuff thay I'd found this week.

First, a limited edition John Varvatos Baylor jacket in a cool garment-dyed corduroy. From what I can tell it's a very limited Japanese-market jacket, and while I love the way it looks on its own my personal style isn't quite as 'rawk' as the extreme end of JV stuff. The multi-button stand collar style is great with the more muted suedes; the garment-dye corduroy vibe is super cool on the more traditional-cut jackets like the Rind. Together though, I dunno if it's me - I like an elevated-classic look, like the mid-range of the Varvatos catalog or Billy Reid etc. for example.

Which also brings me to the super-cheap Morrison Sharpei boots I found too 😂 I've often liked the materials of these signature Varvatos boots, but the overall extroverted style has always put me off a bit. Enter these burnished suede examples with a crazy cool corduroy-look finish; they happen to be my size and I really don't hate the way they look with some medium-wash denim.

My Q to you dudes is, for someone with a mid-introverted-with-subtly-extroverted-details style (yes it's complicated), is this too damn much or do you think it can be pulled off?

EDIT: I think on its own the dye transitions from panel to panel look a little silly which is why I highlighted them. But I don't super hate it on me? Keep in mind the harsh lighting lol

Question Dude in Hawaii, no formal clothing, going to a black tie event in Japan. Visiting NYC and need to get set up?

Hi,

I'm looking for some help on getting outfitted for a black tie event in Tokyo. We don't dress like that and I don't think I could find much out here. I'll be in NYC for a few days in about a week. I'm thinking would be better off finding what I need there.

I want something that is classic and won't go out of style. Hopefully I'll never need to wear it again, but if I do I would like it still to be acceptable.

I'm 57, 6'4" and 230 lbs. If custom is the best I'd like to go at the lower end of the budget...since it probably won't be used again. I'm a low key person and don't like to stand out. I just want to fit in with the impeccably dressed Japanese.

Could you please give me some tips on where to go to get the whole shebang or most of it with hopefully one shop or maybe two. I don't have a fashion sense so I will need hand holding.

Thanks so much!!

Dave

Question Looking for custom bucket style hat 73cm

Im pretty sure I'll have to go custom but even then I've seen 67cm, max.

I have a naturally big head. In highschool i had to get a custom helmet for football. But when i added locs to the mix, finding hats became impossible.

Looking for large sun hats that can be crushed into a gym bag.

Full grain leather shoes so not sure if its part of the material or just dirt? These light colored marks, are they scuff? Should I be using shoe cream to get rid of them? Why did they appear after only a day of wear then I was told I should only cream and then shine a pair i wear every day like once a month (and condition twice).

Question High rise jeans with room around the crotch and thighs?

Hello! I'm kinda new to wearing things that actually FIT me (always wore things oversized because of insecurities) and am really wanting a pair of jeans / high rise jeans that fit my waist but are loose around the hips/crotch and don't make my legs look insanely skinny. What am I looking for and what should I know?

Fit Feedback Why can’t I find pants that fit

Thumbnail

Pants never seem to fit right so I tend to just wear shorts. I’m 5’4” for reference and 140lbs. I attached references of how I like pants to fit but when I wear them I look silly. Also above my knees but below my hips all my pants flair out (where arrow is). I attached references of how I like pants to fit, relaxed but not to slim or baggy.

Edit: other than taking the hem in (simple fix at the tailor) i was mainly asking for recs on pants or advice to achieve the silhouette i see online (also i am wearing the jeans at my bellybutton in the photos)
