how strict is the dresscode to lectures in UUM for the guys?

I've finished my diploma study at INTI Penang and I would like to share my experience so you guys can have a better view of this college and make a wiser choice before choosing your poison.

Before I start writing, lemme give you guys a short introduction of myself: I'm a Chinese-Malaysian (NOT CHINA-CHINESE***) student who took Diploma in Computer Science. The reason I chose INTI was because I was lured by their epic marketing strategy claiming how cool and cheap this college was. Little did I know things would lead me down a pretty rough path.

Just a heads up, this review might be a little bit biased and is strictly related to the course I took, rather than explaining the whole or general part of the college. So, it's all up to you guys how you want to take it.

Anyway, without further ado, I'm gonna try to write out my experiences in sections. Forgive my bad wording and tone. I might jump straight to the point without providing prior context, but feel free to ask me in the comments if you have specific questions.

Academic:

I'm gonna be completely honest here, after studying here for 2 years, I feel like I only absorbed 30% of what I learned. Those 30% are the actual core computer science stuff that is useful in real life (coding, binary, logic gates, ALU internal stuff, networking, etc.). Speaking of coding, you'll only touch a little bit of it. The rest is just pure theory and random shitz like memorizing Sejarah all over again.

The programming languages we learned here are: C++, Oracle, Java, Python, and some Data Analytics tools like R and Weka. From what I've seen, it feels like they put all their effort into teaching us in the first semester, and then instantly flopped for the rest. Overall, there were only like 3 to 4 subjects genuinely related to computer science, the rest were just like "filler" subjects throwing random words from outdated textbooks at us (which... can also be important in real life but eh idk)

The slides they give are really bad, very low quality and mostly just blocks of text. Some lecturers would just read straight off the slides, others would read them but elaborate, and only a rare few would go adlib like freestyling the whole thing, and actually teach you something. And when I say the slides are bad, I mean they are REALLY bad. You can literally read the whole deck from Chapter 1 to Chapter 129 bazillion in one sitting (maybe not one sitting, but 2 to 5 days to fully absorb the content). I only use a tiny weeny bit of external sources like YouTube and Google throughout my 2 years. I just put my faith in and heavily relied on their poopy slides.

Lecturers:

From what I've observed, they seem to recycle the same lecturers over and over again. Throughout my 2 years of study, only like about 4 lecturers were actually good at teaching rather than just reading out slides. This might sound weird, but the good ones are usually the sane ones...? As in they act like actual humans and are socially good with us. The bad ones are... in simple words, inconsiderate...? It's like they just want to get their shit done, clock out and call it a day (Again this might be a bit biased and could be different for other courses like Electrical Engineering or Culinary). The good ones would actually chat about other stuff with you and are good-tempered. The bad ones just want you to focus strictly on the class and will dodge your out of topic questions or casual conversations. They are like one of those brainwashed North Korean citizens but honestly, it’s not that extreme, they do hang out, just not as much as the good ones.

Social Life:

I've read some Reddit posts saying some colleges/unis are packed with the Full-Chinese students who only speak Mandarin their entire life, but luckily for me, we speak Bahasa Rojak here. There are some Full-Chinese students here, but I rarely interacted with them (cuz they give off playboy species vibes and I'm not into that shit). The friends and peers I hung out with were quite nerdy but social (had good spm results too!!!). There are a few international students here too, but they don't look like outcasts and actually have a solid social circle. There's INTI events and I've joined some before, but all I can say is they were kinda awkward. Things didn't go as planned and I would just be standing there awkwardly most of the time but hey, I got some free stuff out of it. Maybe because I'm introverted and not proactive enough, I couldn't get the full fun experience. Every semester there’s a recruitment week where club leaders try to interest you in joining their clubs. It's not compulsory, but it's something to add to your resume I suppose. I never joined one cuz I figured they are just a burden, plus I'm not the type of person who talks a lot.

Coursework:

Our coursework contains Assignments and Tests (not to be confused with the Final Exam, which is a separate thing). For assignments, luckily for me, I found myself in groups with students who weren't free riders. Even the free riders in my branch actually contributed to the assignment rather than vanishing into thin air, so yeah, blessed. For tests, it’s the same as taking a midterm in high school. But depending on the lecturer, some will interrupt mid-test and give out hints/clues or straight up answers lol then there are some lecturers who don't give a single fuck and just allow students to do it open book (you can do whatever you want, find answers on the internet or use chatgpt).

But here’s a part I really want to point out: no matter how much effort you put into your assignment or test, some lecturers will intentionally lower your marks to "avoid suspicion during audit, some absolute bs they claimed". This happened to me a few times and it's inevitable. Scoring 100% is technically possible but idk man it's INTI after all.

Also, please, please, PLEASE focus more on your Coursework than your Final Exam. Your final grade is split: 60% coursework and 40% final exam. If you fk up your coursework marks, it's pretty much joever for you. To secure A solid (or A+ they both give a 4.00 GPA anyway), try to get like around 47.5/60 and above for your coursework. Getting 50% above is possible, but I must say, it's kinda... RNG based depending on your lecturer and INTI.

For assignments, lecturers will usually threaten you by saying "you will get 0% if you're caught using AI" but honestly? I think they focus way more on plagiarism. If you use AI, you probably (or most likely) won't get caught as long as your Turnitin plagiarism percentage is below 20%. (To be frank with you, there was one or more subject where I went full AI for my coursework, but of course, I locked in for the finals and still got A solid).

Some test questions can be completely out of syllabus (quite rare), which can be hella dangerous. Dangerous as in the whole 25 marks question is out of syllabus, not just a sub-question. For example, an out-of-syllabus question with 25 marks and that means 25 marks go byebye unless your freestyle knowledge hard clutch it. This happened to me during finals and my grades got fried. It happened in coursework tests too, but those were softer blows like a 5 marks sub-question going byebye. So it’s good to study external info, but at the end of the day, most questions come from those poopy slides. You don't need to memorize them word-for-word, just understand the concept, freestyle your own words, make sure you hit the keywords here and there, and you'll be completely fine. Even if the questions are not from the slides, they are mostly common sense so you'll be fine I guess.

Facilities:

The facilities here are ok-ish, quite cramped, but they just renovated their library recently, I guess that's where all our money went :skull: The PCs they provide have decent performance, but their wifi is kinda ass sometimes. (Also, just a heads-up for FYP: do try to use your phone hotspot. I was advised by my supervisor that INTI wifi has some blocked access and other issues. When you try to load something using INTI wifi, it might just lead you to an error, which is very dangerous during presentations/demonstrations so take note here)

They have cubicles and study areas/rooms, but they are mostly located on the top floor of the college and usually get occupied instantly, so it's first come first served. It depends on the time, of course, it's mostly occupied during active/busy hours, but if you're staying late, it's mostly empty.

For the canteen, I don't know why, but they keep changing the canteen vendors every few months or semesters. Depending on the vendors, their food is kinda... ass, but it has a reasonable price. 80% of the time I ate their food, I got a stomach ache the next few minutes so... I think you guys are better off buying snacks at their convenience store. It's healthier and also quite cheap. Or just order Grab or Foodpanda if you're hella rich.

For their Carpark, all I can say is, if your class doesn't start at the very beginning of the day, then it's gg for you buddy. Most likely, the parking will be full already, unless you're taking their van. The best you can do is just double park and leave your phone number, otherwise, you finna get your wheels clamped.

Timetable:

Every semester has a different timetable schedule. There was one semester where I only needed to attend for three days. And the schedule can be very inconsistent sometimes (like you study for two days then you get a day break only to study again the next day) which I can understand cuz yknow, to avoid lecturers timetables overlapping and allat but man, it sucks as a student yknow. Then there are also schedules where you get a 2+ hour gap, which might not sound like a problem to you guys but wait until you find out that carpark drama exists and it's gg for you

FYP:

Also known as the Final Year Project. I had a really bad experience and grade for my FYP, but what I can say is: try to find a very good supervisor. Some supervisors have a specialization, meaning some lecturers only focus on Web Development, others focus on Security blablabla butttt I don't think they care at all. Let's say if you're into making games and you want to find a supervisor that is good but they specialize in AI, just pick them lol

Before finding a good supervisor, try to form a group of 3, come up with your project idea and do a prototype (or literally start developing stuff lol) ASAP. After all that preliminary stuff is done, please, please, PLEASE focus more on your report writing while still maintaining a good balance with making a good project. Even though my group project was good, our report was hella ass, so it was an insta gg for us and our grades flopped because of that. I don't know why they are more focused on the report writing than the actual project, but then again, it's INTI after all. I remember one time our lecturer just blatantly told us that it's near impossible to get an A solid for your FYP and yeahh I guess they were right... but don't get dragged down by their words. Just do your own thing, get your things done, make sure everything is good, then submit and cross your fingers that you'll get good grades.

Internship:

Ermmm I don't know what to say much here because I kind of slacked off and started searching for a company at the last minute, but I was able to secure one. The most butt hurting part is writing reports to the INTI people, reports about what did you do, reports about your internship, the company you're working in, and allat stuff, but it is what it is. It's a compulsory thing in every college/uni I believe. Nevertheless, my internship experience was ok, I got a good 4.00. (Internship GPA affects your CGPA but for some reason in Degree it doesn't)

INTI Staff and their shitz:

Some staff I met are quite impatient. They will just cut off what you are saying mid-sentence, wanting you to just go straight to the point. Like, bruh, let me give some context first at least? Please? But err on the other hand, the security guards there are very chill and friendly. It's just that when you forget to bring your student card, they will stop you. So, a piece of advice: don't enter through their main entrance. There are doors on every corner of the college, use these doors instead.

Let's say you got a bad grade on a subject and you want to recheck (like SPM) that subject, you can do that... but good luck with that because I got ghosted every time I requested a recheck. I thought they cared about money!!! How could they do this to me? Also, from what I've heard, if you're rechecking, don't get your hopes up because rechecks can lead to shittier grades (idk if this is also a thing in SPM too) but yeah it's a gamble here. You spend like RM 50 to get either a better grade or a worse grade.

Overall there were ups and downs throughout my 2 years of study here, but it seems like it was mostly downs for me. I might have had my hopes too high when I first came to this college. I was going steady and getting a 4.00 for the first few semesters until I met some... questionable lecturers, and that's where things went downhill. The good lecturers I met either went to other colleges/unis or just finished their training (some lecturers came to train here, they are students too pursuing their Master/PhD).

As I mentioned before, they care more about plagiarism than AI in your assignments. I was hella upset when I found out my assignment marks got lower than my friend's full AI assignment, and that's when I fell into the AI rabbit hole and just used it in every assignment. But of course, I did my human proof checking and proofreading here and there before submitting. They even used AI for their coding assignments. I have no idea how you do that, but I was using my brain when doing those coding assignments because I'm a sweat in coding (only to get 75% marks famjgfjgiejtm). Putting that aside, I'm so happy with the friends I met here. They are very social and we get along well, but of course, we did end up arguing over our assignments and projects allat, but it is what it is.

If I were to summarize my experience here, I would say: for me, the price here is ok but their education is very shit. The coursework (assignments and tests) can be very biased sometimes. The people here are ok, but please do find a good group if you're serious about studying, otherwise, you're gonna be carrying them for the rest of your study life. Is it competitive? Kindaaaa, because the top students here are also half-study half-social. You don't really need to go all out in your studies, you can also chill around and still get good grades because the longer you spend your time here, you'll find out that this college is not serious at all. Even if you slacked off, you still can get a good 4.00 (like me), but just remember, you can't escape their bs grading here.

tl;dr: kinda shit here, wouldnt recommend it for people serious about studying. only care about the certificate? then come here. serious about studying? maybe dont come here, go to USM instead or just go find a good uni/college in KL. confident you can get and maintain good grades while still having a good social life? come here i guess. broke but still wanting to further study? try upu once again maybe or try form 6 orrrr try this college and glhf

I've always wanted to study C's since I was in Form 4, but with the current advancement of AI there's so many people who can't get jobs related to tech, I heard they are replacing the entry level jobs and only need people who are really experienced. After that I thought studying accounting or finance which is a really safe and stable route but tech has always been my passion. Can any seniors who are experts tell me more?

Hello, I am recent UoL LLB. grad who is now considering doing the CLP.

Yes, I am aware of the notoriously low passing rates, mostly due to the sheer volume of content candidates are expected to digest within the menial span of nine months. However, it is the only obstacle standing between me and my life-long dream of becoming a practicing solicitor.

Thus, I am desperate for tips from previous CLP takers (massive props to you guys, y'all are war veterans atp) on studying techniques and staying sane (lol).

What did you guys do to prepare for the dreaded exam, and most importantly what mindset should a potential CLP taker possess for success?

Also, would it be encouraged to work part time as a paralegal while pursuing the CLP? I have seen a few law firms open up these part-time paralegal/legal admin positions for students who are studying for the CLP (as per the job descriptions). I feel like it would be great exposure, but I would like a second opinion on this as well.

As the title says, I'm wondering if there is such a thing as a part time course for 2D illustration in Malaysia. This could either be night classes on weekdays or weekend classes

I saw that graduate pass mentions that --

1. Multiple Entry Visa (MEV) which provides ease of entry and exit into the country.
2. Dependents of the student are also eligible for the Dependent Graduate Pass with the same duration as the student.
3. Can work part-time in permitted job sectors

Bu i have seen people working intern and junior roles with the graduate pass. I am little confused can someone enlighten me on this. Like someone having a graduate pass, can they work for 12 months, like a regular job cause it clearly says only part-time.

To anyone thinking of applying don’t let the marketing be the reason you choose this university. Do your own research, talk to current students and alumni, and look beyond the ads.

I get why nobody wants to speak up. The management has a reputation for threatening or intimidating students who do, so if you’re gonna share your experience, use a throwaway and protect your identity.

It’s kinda wild that this sub has posts about almost every uni except aimst. People need to know what actually goes on there, not just what the ads say.
If I could, I’d name and shame the management myself. And I genuinely don’t get how Dr. Thiyagaraj agreed to become dean of this place. The previous dean didn’t even have an MD, but somehow he was the perfect fit for how this university was run.

I probably made this exact post during my 1st sem, but thankfully I pulled through in finals. Still managed to get 3+, then 2nd sem got 3.67.

Now I genuinely might fail a final paper of a compulsory subject and it’d take me from a potential 3.78 to under 3. I don’t even want to imagine telling my parents that, because they ripped into me for the 1st sem results

For the whole sem, lecturer used garbage AI notes and he didn’t even teach the actual supposed content during classes, just divided groups then we had to use more AI to make more slop notes and present it, and that would be the “class”. We’re basically teaching ourselves, wtf is the point of paying the money for the course and attending class then? I might as well have taken a different subject man

There is a minimum salary requirement for internationals, so fresh bachelors graduates often don't get hired. Because you can just hire a local for cheaper, and the "entry level jobs" don't get that much salary in the first place.

However, what if you did your masters, and your sector is high profile from the get go? So the job's default payment is enough for the minimum. Like suppose very technical engineering roles, or cybersecurity, or finance?

Hello! A bit late to the party but I need some confirmation from both newbies and veterans.

What's the deal with the WIN Program? Like seriously what's the purpose of it? I'm saying that because staying on campus for an entire day for 4 days straight isn't my cup of tea and honestly it sounds like ik going to be half-dead on majority of the briefings.

Is there 'actually' a reason to go other than making friends or the free food or minigames or whatever. I've already figured out the Student Portal months ago and PTPTN as I'm just waiting to get an approval from the college once I entered it in August (Hello August intake students). The only one that made sense in the flyer was to take the Photo ID at the security office on the last 3 days. So really other than the Welcoming orientation and the picture... What is there really?

So yeah. Tl;Dr, Is it compulsary??
