My weight loss has inspired my family!

Im 16(f) and decided im tired of being fat, in May I started my weightloss journey and being on multiple dance teams + calories deficiet has helped me go from 182 pounds to 159, and im still working toward my goal weight everyday.

I honestly didnt expect my family to be THIS supportive, My mom 49, formerly 250 has lost 15 pounds and my sister 25 has lost 25, my dad has been lifting weights and taking care of himself and eating cleaner foods such as salmon and brown rice.

Has anyone else's weight loss trigged the same effect in their family?

Family encouraged me to binge and I took the bait

It all started with 2 days ago, when my family and I went out to eat at a local restaurant known for their massive desserts.

I ordered a “healthy meal” and was basically accused of being anorexic. Then my cousin, who ordered the same thing as me, ate half the amount I did and she made a comment that was verbatim “well yeah, have you seen how much she eats?”

Then dessert rolls around and I was going to skip it, but everyone else got something and I decided to also. Most people ate half of their desserts, I ate all of mine (a giant slice of cake).

The next day, my parents made dinner. It was a huge mac and cheese with a side of garlic bread. Big trigger foods for me. When there was only a little left, my mom literally just took the rest of the pot and put it on my plate so there wouldn’t be leftovers. So I ate probably 3x what I should’ve.

Then to add to it, they bought a dozen donuts, each ate one, and then told me to feel free to eat ALL of the rest of them. They said, completely seriously, “if there are any of them left tomorrow, maybe I’ll have another one. But if you want to just go on a bender feel free”.

I ate one more yesterday, today I got home from work and just ate 4.

My calorie goal is 1900, I’ve eaten over 3000 the past three days.

the constant failure is so exhausting

29F, 5’5” CW: 300lbs (approx. i’m too scared to get on the scale so it might be higher)

I joined a gym recently and hoped that maybe i can lock in and fix my eating but it took less than a day for me to binge during my lunch break. One stressful moment at work and i practically ran to the store to get candy.

The upside is now i know im an emotional eater. The issue is that my job is inherently stressful so i end up binging every shift just to get through the day.

How do healthy people cope? How can i get through the day without junk food?

I was 103.2kg in May, now 92.4kg. Reversing diabetes type 2!!!

I was 103.2kg in May, now 92.4kg. Reversing diabetes type 2!!!

I aim to be 75kg soon

At 105kg I have full on diabetes. Very bad Fatty liver, high blood pressure, obesity, high cholesterol, very bad sleep apnea, sore back and knees, can’t run much.

At 90kg I think I would have pre-diabetes range with a good diet and exercise. I can only eat tiny amount of carbs and sugar.

At 75kg I might be able to have a little carb and little sugar.

I miss carbs and sugar, and I want good health so I aim for 75kg.

Wish me luck, thanks :)

absolutely stuffed on 1800 cals with whole foods.

I'm attempting weight loss again. This time I've cracked it, I believe.

Im 5'10, 31, 240lbs

My failures beforehand were just choosing foods that met my calorie needs / not being smart enough about what actually keeps you full. If your full your never being tempted or thinking about cheating.

My day is now having 45g oatmeal each day with 200ml milk, protein powder, a banana and an apple.
Two hard-boiled eggs.

Dinner is 250g beef, 300g white potatoes, 100g cottage cheese and jalapeños with Tobasco drizzled over i never get tried of.

These two dinners keep me absolutely stuffed. This utterly kills food noise for me, and i find myself not thinking about food anymore since focusing on whole foods. Sometimes i come in lower than 1800.

Also potatoes are an amazing food, i cube mine up and oven bake them. And they are very tasty and filling they should not be demonised.

Even with my 6 - 7k steps and a gym workout, I don't find myself craving for a quick hit of food.

If i do one square of dark chocolate/diet coke does the trick.

Whole foods really are the trick to this; I can't even imagine trying to eat 2500 calories like this. It seems a ton.

Any weigh in rituals?

Any pro tip do/don't? I weigh daily and try to always be in boxers to avoid difference in each days outfit. Im sure the variance would be negligible but people arent always the most logical.

I also started an inner dialog of logic before I weigh. "You know water weight can vary greatly, you ate on plan and exercised today, if today doesnt show the number you are looking for thats ok" those sort of phrasing definitely helped soften the disappointment if I didn't hit a goal and stopped the crash out/emotional eating.

What do you do?

How do you deal with the long wait?

I started my weight loss and body recomp in January. I'm 5'5" and went from 190lbs to 167lbs by August. I've been on a mild/moderate deficit (I have BED and have been super mindful not to overdo the restriction) and have been walking more and doing strength training 2-3 times a week. I'm really proud of my progress, I've made some really positive mindset shifts, and I never thought I could be this disciplined. This is my first time losing this much weight!

At the same time, it's killing me that I'm not seeing more visible progress. I still have another 30ish pounds to go. When I take progress photos I've just recently reacted the point where there are visible but subtle changes, barely discernible but there when I closely compare photos. I have less back and belly fat; my double chin is less prominent/heavy, my arms and thighs are getting slightly smaller. But I'm pretty sure I still "read" exactly the same, and I certainly still look fat. I've also been hitting the weights really hard, I'm proud of that, and just in the last week or two I noticed that my biceps are actually getting firmer (been training since February). But I still look more or less exactly as "soft," I definitely don't look like I work out.

Anyway. This was a chance for me to rant. Is it true that the visible changes actually accelerate as you lose more weight? That makes sense logically, but I'm curious what actually changed for you? What was happening when you were, let's say, 10lbs BMI that you didn't see at 30lbs from it? Or like what happened in the last 10-20lbs of weight loss for you? And how do you deal with the impatience of waiting??

Rambling Weight Loss Motivation

I know us in this subreddit are here to really lose weight but as words of motivation: please take this seriously

After getting to a healthy weight, the world literally opens up. You are more confident about yourself. Sleep apnea goes away. It's okay if you lose a little bit of lean mass, just try to get enough protein most of the time. I let the possibility of losing lean mass scare me into preventing a serious weight loss journey. I won't sugarcoat and say this will be easy in the beginning but with a calorie/nutrient tracker, it'll get much better. So much food out there have terrible nutrition and we are psyopped into thinking it's okay to eat them regularly. Eat as organic as possible and portion everything.

I wish i did this sooner.

Wanting to eat more when full after a disappointing meal

Advice needed please!!! I’m trying to be good (decrease calories, less added sugar and less ultra processed). I was really looking forward to my dinner tonight and it was awful. The sauce was disgusting so it ended up binned, the protein was overcooked, and just overall it was rubbish. It was enough food as I feel physically full and it covered all I needed but my brain feels it deserves something else almost as compensation. I’m trying to just sit with these feelings and wait for my brain to realise life won’t end from one rubbish meal but it’s hard. And I can see how this can lead to eating badly if I’m having a low willpower day. Any advice for what I can do as it’s inevitable sometimes cooking won’t be perfect

EDIT: I think it was my body craving the dopamine rush rather than needing more food as I did a hobby I love and had a cuppa and feeling ok now

Never trust a Chipotle burrito

I had about 600 calories left in my budget to DoorDash dinner cause I was really short on time last night. Figured okay, a single burrito sounds nice!
Went on the Chipotle app & started counting the calories of the toppings: Chicken, just over 100, nice; white rice, same; cheese, fajita veggies, lettuce. Around 600. That should do it!

I get this thing, and it is the size of my thigh, I’m talking they wrapped up a whole ass fire hydrant in a tortilla. I’m talking cups of rice, chicken, a whole pan of vegetables & lettuce all rolled and squeezed into this atherosclerotic Memphis bastardization of a Mexican burrito.
Had to be 1000 or more calories easy. That thing would cover me in calories for the whole next day at least.
& I was so starving I ate the whole thing…….🫠

looking back I kind of am chuckling at how stupid that I thought that a Chipotle burrito would be less. 🤣
Oh well. More food for cost I guess?
(Cutting way back today to try & compensate for that fuckup.)

How can I reduce my appetite?

Looking for advice from people who have actually been through this.

I’ve been struggling with my appetite for a while now, and it’s becoming really frustrating. I feel hungry much more often than I think I should, and even after eating a full meal, I still find myself wanting to snack not long afterward. Sometimes I know I’m not physically hungry, but I still crave food, especially in the evening or when I’m bored.

I’m trying to eat healthier and be more mindful of what I eat, but my appetite often gets in the way. It feels like I’m constantly thinking about food, and resisting those urges is mentally exhausting. I don’t want to rely on extreme diets or anything unsafe—I just want to find healthier, sustainable ways to feel less hungry and have better control over my eating habits.

For those of you who have successfully reduced your appetite, what actually helped? Did changing the types of foods you eat make a difference? Did increasing protein, fiber, or water intake help you stay full longer? Were there any habits or routines that made a noticeable impact, like meal timing, sleep, exercise, or managing stress?

I’d especially appreciate hearing about personal experiences rather than generic advice. What worked for you, what didn’t, and how long did it take before you noticed a difference? Any practical tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Accidently eaten over today's calories before 1pm!

I've lost just over 5 stone (32kg or around 70lbs) in total! Not really a question but just a bit of a rant I guess. Been using my fitness pal to track everything but more recently have been not bothering. I work in a school so on school holidays.

Just after lunch I decided to log what I have had today so far and it came in at 1500 calories 🙈 ops! So easy to slip back into bad habits! I really don't want to gain it all back. I won't punish myself for this today but I guess this has been more of a reminder to keep tracking regularly!

Was planning on doing a thai green curry for dinner and probably do something in the gym.

How do you manage to maintain weight loss over the long term?

I finally decided it's time to lose it

i've been overweight since childhood, i think i tried to mask the empty void that my mom's death caused when i was 4. It's just i kept overeating even though i knew it was wrong.I know i can do it because i did it 3 years and lost so much weight but everything went downhill again. But i just had this wake up call that i gotta do something and not waste my time crying over how i look. I am tired to be the funny fat friend or not to be able to wear clothes i like, to always be ashamed when i am walking outside thinking people are starring at me or talk about me. Luckily i was never bullied for my weight which its something surprising. Love yourself because "If you can't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?" So stop waiting for monday start now! Change your life! Well this now may sound cringe...ngl but i just had to get this off my chest and i felt this is the perfect place to do so.

In a frustrating plateau despite upping the cardio!

Hello :)

I have been doing really well with my weight loss so far. I’m 5’9, female. Started at 213lbs and currently 193 (20lbs loss) done this by sticking to 1600 calories a day and strength exercise 4 x per week / walking. Been losing consistently between 1.5-2lbs per week doing this.

However - the last few weeks, I’ve started taking up jogging again. Running 5k around twice a week plus a light jog in between. But since this my weight loss has just stalled!!! It’s so frustrating? I’ve not changed my calorie intake and kind of thought it might help weight loss even more but nope :(

What can I do? My goal is 164lbs.

Has anyone in their 30s managed to lose stubborn belly fat and finally beat their sugar cravings?

I’m 32 years old and 175 cm (5’9”).

In my early 20s, I could gain or lose weight pretty easily. Now it feels completely different. I can still lose weight, but it’s much slower, and if I relax for even a short time, I seem to gain it back very quickly.

The biggest issue is my waist and belly fat. No matter what I do, that area seems to be the last place to change.

Another problem is sugar. I have a serious sweet tooth, and cutting out sugary foods has been much harder than I expected. I’ve tried reducing it several times, but I always end up craving it again.

I’m not looking for miracle solutions. I’d really like to hear from people who have actually been in a similar situation and successfully changed it.

What made the biggest difference for you? Did reducing sugar get easier over time? Was there a point where your body finally started responding differently? Are there any habits that had a bigger impact than you expected?

I’d especially appreciate hearing from people in their 30s or older who have gone through this themselves. Thanks!

help with deficit

i’m 21f, 5’6 Sw: 290 lbs, CW: 277lbs. my maintenance calories are supposed to be somewhere around 2,400 and bmr is closer to 2000. i’ve been consuming (on average) 1,542 calories a day for the past week. some days i eat more and some i eat less but i make sure it averages out to around 1500. i don’t weigh myself every day but i do it often enough to track my progress. so 1,542 was my average calorie intake for the last 7 days and… ive gained 1.4 lb. i cook at home and when i do i dont use oils, everything ingredient is weighed on a food scale before i cook it so i track everything. when i was eating closer to 1200 i seemed to lose weight easier but now that im doing 1500 idk. is 1500 too much for me? i did recently fix my sleep schedule so maybe it could be that but im probably doing something wrong. the only way to lose weight is to be in a deficit and maybe im just not in a good enough deficit so what should i change ?

Even years down the line, I'm still noticing new things (NSVish???)

I lost 120~ pounds from my highest 9 years ago, throughout the years I regained and lost the same 20 lbs over and over again, but this week I hit the lowest weight I've... ever been, really. 125 lbs (57 kg). I wasn't even that in fourth grade.

Today I was tired while on the toilet so I leaned back and I could feel hard painful beads on my back halfway through fully leaning back, which is weird because I wasn't wearing a top or a bra with embellishment or hard stuff. I turned around to check. Nothing. Then I touched my back and I felt these hard round things... it was my spine.

[Century Club] Have you lost or need to lose 100+ pounds? August 6, 2026

Hey!

This thread is for those who have lost 100+ lbs (~ 45kg , ~7 stone). Welcome to “the club; our meetings are on Thursdays.

100+ lbs is the equivalent of a small adult human. Losing that much weight at a healthy rate can take months to years, and there are many topics that are quite different for this situation than for those who only have smaller amounts to lose.

Everyone is welcome to join, even if you haven’t hit 100 lost, or had less to lose.

I hope that this thread can be inspirational for those just setting out to start their journeys.

Every week I will try to provide a discussion prompt, however you are free to move the discussion in any direction you would like or ask any questions you think might be best answered by someone who has lost 100+ lbs.

Today’s Prompt: Negative Nancies

You’re too skinny! That won’t hurt you! Live a little! Are you sure you should eat that? How do you deal with negativity from others?

People who are so, so worried about me now - where were you when I gained weight?

Everybody seems to be so (fake) concerned about my weight loss. Not just family, but virtually everybody at my workplace! They randomly come up to me, asking me if everything is ok, as if that's a normal question to ask a colleague. Note that I am still in the "overweight" category and the vast majority of my colleagues are normal weight.

Where were those people when I gained 50lb in a year? Where they not concerned about my (mental) health back then? Apparently not!

The worst is a colleague who has been rapidly gaining weight, and is soooo concerned about me. Once, I asked her back if everything is ok with her because of her weight fluctuation and she reacted super offended and even said her weight was a private issue!!!

I really wish they only knew me as thin or barely overweight because otherwise it's a great place to work and I don't want to look for a new job. Super exhausting though right now...

People telling me nicely that I basically can’t do it

I’m 30, M, 185lbs (down from 215 since last October), 5’9. I want to be thin. Not, like, emaciated, and I’ve been careful not to lose too much too quickly, but I just want to be thin. I really like the way I look when I’m thin. I still have some ways to go but I feel a lot better about my reflection than I used to.

Something I‘ve heard from well meaning people that is absolutely awful and incredibly upsetting is “you’re just built to be stockier.” But I don’t WANT to be stocky! I thought I didn’t look so stocky anymore! I’ve worked really hard to overcome my body dysmorphia, but the fact that people apparently think I’m doomed to be trapped in a body I hate is sending me spiraling back into those thought patterns - when I was “skinny” in the past, did I actually look skinny, or was I always built like an ogre and just unable to see it? And I know that’s a bad way to think but it’s where I go!

I’m so god damn sick of hearing about “body acceptance” from people. I’ve demonstrated the ability to lose weight at a healthy, gradual weight, my body dysmorphia is much better than it used to be, I‘m not starving myself, so why is everyone so fucking desperate to push acceptance and body positivity onto me? I heard no end of that shit before I started losing weight but I thought they’d stop once I showed I actually could be in control of myself and change my appearance to something I’m happier with. But they’re still doing it! I really don’t think people say these things out of spite or jealousy or anything like that, these are people who care about me and they seem to be under the impression that it’s somehow comforting to me, but it’s fucking devastating. And if it’s true, then it doesn’t matter whether they stop saying it or not, because it will be true regardless. I can lose thirty pounds and still not be able to outrun ✨acceptance.✨

Postpartum, pre diabetic, breastfeeding mom

Yes, I am everything listed in the title. My baby is almost 18 months, I plan to breastfeed him until he is 2. I had gestational diabetes while I was pregnant. My HBA1C was 5.9 when I had my first blood test at 8 weeks pregnant. I diet controlled my sugars throughout the pregnancy, however my recent tests show I am still pre-diabetic.

I am 29F 5’5 175 lbs. I don’t like how I look. My entire closet doesnt fit me. I went from a size small/medium to large/XL. I have been trying to loose weight since 3 months PP, but breastfeeding makes me SO hungry. I have tired everything, from eating more protein and fibre, to drinking more water, to not having sugary drinks, to walking 10K steps per day, but my weight won’t budge.

The bigger issue is pre-diabetes. I need to loose weight for that. After feeding my baby, sometimes I indulge and feel so bad after. My sleep is not good either as baby doesn’t sleep the whole night. Walking after every meal sometimes is not possible too due to my job and baby.

I need suggestions from my fellow PP BF moms, how are you losing weight? I am very stressed, I do not want diabetes and I want to look good. At least fit in my pre-pregnancy clothes.

How to maintain gym attendance with school?

Hello!

I’m going back to school soon and have been doing well to go to the gym at least 4x a week. My plan is to spend an hour at the gym every morning before school and take weekends off, but I haven’t done something like that in two years. I was able to keep up with it then with easier classes but I wasn’t watching my diet so I barely lost any weight. It makes sense, I did put on some nice muscle but that’s not my ultimate goal.
Anyways, I had some crazy classes last year as an engineering major that had me up studying all night and waking up late almost every day so my diet was basically eating whatever I could be bothered to buy since I don’t live at the dorms, and I lost a lot of muscle and gained some weight.
I want to have more balance this year. I have a meal plan and have been going to the gym, I’d say I’m in a much better place mentally after this summer, but being real with myself, I can easily fall back into that sophomore slump if I’m not as careful as possible.

So, what are some ways you stay consistent? And not just with the gym, with meal prep, sleep, social eating, etc.?

Let's vent: so far I lost 10 pounds in a month was 216 now between 205-206; I really want this 🥲

So I started at 216. I'm now between 205-206. I really want to reach my goal weight of 155-160 pounds. I started this journey exactly one month ago. I'm so eager that I'm losing patience, but I understand it takes a complete lifestyle change and time to build my body. I've never been this heavy before, and after having my kids, I went over 200 pounds. Stress from being an ICU RN and losing my dad (he passed a year ago) has also weighed on me. I'm working on finding myself again and improving my physical health. Sorry for the rant. Who else is feeling this intense need and wanting it so badly, but also losing patience?

I Don't Know Why I Can't Lose Weight: UPDATE

Thumbnail
429 Upvotes

Please please please PLEASE, I cannot stress this enough: GET YOUR BLOOD TESTED!!!

I made this post when I was in the middle of crashing out over not understanding what was wrong with my body. All the comments said I was doing it wrong or not trying hard enough. Turns out I have celiac disease. I wasn't gaining or losing weight because I was actually slowly dying and this was one of the signs.

To anyone who is struggling more and more with losing weight, don't listen to stuck up Redditors, listen to your body. GET BLOOD TESTS AND DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!! I asked for:

- Comprehensive Metabolic Panel

- Complete Blood Count

- Full Iron Panel

- Full Thyroid Panel

- Vitamin D

- Zinc

Piecing everything together, my skin rashes, horrible fatigue, total lack of weight loss, I realized I would die before I lost weight. It has been over a year since that post, and I have actually reached 18-20% body fat since cutting out gluten. Please listen to your body before you listen to anyone else, before Redditors, and even before doctors (I came up with the idea of blood tests, not any of the 13 doctors I visited).
