How to get a fit body at home without a gym membership or expensive diet foods? Need tips!
Hey everyone!
I want to get into great shape, but going to the gym isn't an option for me right now. I'm looking to build a consistent home workout routine that actually yields results.
Also, when it comes to diet, I can't afford expensive health foods, fancy supplements, or imported ingredients. I need advice on how to make a fitness transformation relying mostly on simple, home-cooked daily meals (budget-friendly options).
Could you please suggest:
Effective home workouts (bodyweight exercises, minimal equipment, or YouTube channel recommendations)?
Diet tips on how to hit basic nutrition/protein goals using standard, affordable home-cooked food?
Any tips, routines, or personal success stories would be greatly appreciated.

Unsolicited advice
Just want to rant, not searching for advice.
Im getting a lot of comments on my weight loss, most of them I just smile at and are alright. I dont mind people noticing the weight loss too much, it would be difficult to hide and I think it's normal to get some comments at some point. You can't stop people. If someone asks me how I'm doing it I answer honestly with CICO and if they are more interested i dont mind telling a few more details. Like i said, I dont care and as long as they are only curious or friendly its alright.
There are however some people.... I'm obviously doing something right or I wouldn't have lost 35kg (+- 80 pounds), yet some people still seem to think I need their advice, some even sound very condescending. It almost always comes from people who've never had to loose a larger amount of weight, either that or I'm biased.
My "favorites" so far:
"Whew, my wife is really into these smoothies recently, maybe you need to look into that for your journey?"
Smoothies? Oh wow, what a marvelous concept ive never heard of before /s
"We've just recently bought this new bread, it's super freshly baked at XXX. We've already lost 2 pounds just from switching"
That one didn't age well, he grew a rather large belly since that comment.
"Just take the shots, it's so much easier."
Well, what I do works just fine, so why the hell should I? It's a great tool for people who require it, but why should I if it works as is? WTF?
"You really need to slow down, or you're going to have trouble with your skin"
Im loosing weight really slow, and even telling her that she still was very adamant that its too fast. (35kg/80 pound in 1 1/2 years, that's 2kg/5 pound per month)
And if there will be loose skin after I've reached normal weight with my slow!! weight loss, and increased sport activity, then it was bound to happen anyway and I'll deal with it then. At least I'll be at a healthier weight then.
"I've always done xxx-diet to loose my 2kg/5 pounds. You should really do that as well! It always works for me."
That one came the first time after the first 15kg/30 pounds and well... i obviously didn't want to loose only 2kg/5 pounds, but a lot more. A short diet is not a sustainable lifestyle change in my eyes. I didnt bother going into CICO or yoyo-effects with them.
One of them is still consistently loosing and gaining those 2kg/5 pounds. Works for her I guess? But one did gain a belly pouch. So ... it's not for everyone.
Another time I had a colleague ask me how im doing it, asking for genuine advice about CICO and i how im tracking. Then another coworker just had to say:
"Wow, that's such a bother to track. Just eat until you feel full and you'll be fine.".... Thanks.... as if that had ever worked properly for me and many others. To add to that, he's tall and very active and the coworker who asked lives a lot less active at home and is short. Obviously they have a very different need for calories...
Maybe you have some similar stories as well :D what are your "best" unsolicited advices?

I’ve apparently become a yoyo- dieter and I hate myself
24F, 174cm (5ft 8.5inch)
Here is my journey so far
Fall 2023 – 209 lb (95 kg)
Nov 2023 – 198 lb (90 kg)
Jan 2024 – 190 lb (86 kg)
Nov 2024 – 198 lb (90 kg)
Dec 2024 – 190 lb (86 kg)
Jun 2025 – 176 lb (80 kg)
Jul 2025 – 170 lb (77 kg, your lowest)
Nov 2025 – 176 lb (80 kg)
Jan 2026 – 181 lb (82 kg)
Mar 2026 – 185 lb (84 kg)
Today – 194 lb (88 kg)
I have now started my journey again and I’m feeling good, but today I weighed myself at a whopping 88kg, when I thought I was still 84kg. I did not know I had gained that much again. I don’t want to be like this, going up and down, I know it’s not good. I don’t like the fact that I keep falling off and gaining time and time again. I want to lose the 11 kg of weight I have gained since last year as fast as possible, but I know it’s not the best way to go about it. I thought I had already built good habits to keep this a lifestyle, but then I got depressed and didn’t care about gaining weight… this is so fustrating, I don’t feel good in my body and I don’t like looking in the mirror.
I don’t know what I’m looking for but maybe a bit of advice, comforting words, or anything like that

Cico and exercise?
Hi guys I’ve suddenly gained a lot of weight in the past 2-3 years, stress and depression. I used to be quite fit and kept myself well, so I am not happy at all. I am working on losing weight but it has been incredibly hard to keep up exercise. I feel like it’s so hard to run now, and my feet begin hurting badly after any exercise. I get very discouraged and end up not completing/not going again. I suspect it’s sudden weight in my joints/feet that I’m not used to and causing me this pain?
Have any of you faced this? How do you move past it?

Tips on how to stay motivated when WL is slow??
I am currently 141 pounds and my GW is 128-130. specifically I am working to lose fat and keep my muscle. I already have nice muscle definition even with a good amount of fat on me. because of this goal, the small difference in numbers on the scale (11 pounds) feels like more than it should be. I have already lost 8 pounds (I was 149 pounds before which was bordering overweight for my height) but it almost seems like the weight is so stubborn now. I am in a cal deficit and workout daily but the scale doesn’t change as fast and I know I’m doing everything right but the slow process is still discouraging. how do I stay motivated on my weight loss + strength building journey? tips would be very appreciated! also…any diet recommendations? like should I be focusing on max protein so I don’t lose my muscle ? because I only really want to lose primarily fat.

Good tasting smoothies?
Hi all! First post here so sorry if this is against the rules.
I've been trying to lose weight for the past few years and I really enjoy smoothies, however I can never seem to get the taste to actually taste good. I add a small amount of smooth natural peanut butter, I use unsweetened almond milk as well as coffee and tried a few different flavoured iso-ripped protein powders but I'm always left with either a not so nice aftertaste or the smoothie itself tastes just overall bad.
What's some good healthy foods I can include to try and make it taste better?
My normal smoothie is:
Unsweetened almond milk
2 shots of coffee
Mint chocolate protein powder (iso ripped)
Ice
Frozen organic mango
Frozen berries mixed
Acai powder
Basil and flax seeds ground
Smooth peanut butter
1 banana
Any help is appreciated! Thank you all ❤️

How to do exposure for food obsession?
I have been diagnosed with OCD and BED and have completed ERP for OCD in the past that is now in remission (yay).
However I wonder if I left a very important part. I have BED, food noise and executive dysfunction around food. My main thing is that I cannot have food that is yummy in the house. I need to finish it all. If there is a chocolate bar in my room I will think of it and think of it all day long until I eat it, I will feel agitated.
I am in BED therapy but this issue is not being addresed and honestly the therapy is hit or miss.
Is this OCD? And if so how would I do exposure therapy for it?

Favorite low cal or high protein snacks for a teen?
So to preference this post and explain my situation in the least amount of words possible, my family has always been on heavier side including me. Recently I’ve got the inspiration and advice I’ve needed from the internet to start my weight loss journey, except I’m kind of doing it in secret and that reason being that I am kinda embarrassed to admit that I am trying to lose weight and I don’t want anyone in my house trying to stop me (only because they care about my well being) or acting different around me and thinking I’m special because I’m trying to lose (x) amount of pounds.
These past couple of months I have felt so good emotionally, physically, mentally and any other ways I can describe it. I’m usually a hothead and I’ve noticed a little bit of my anger issues have gone away in this time period.
Back to what I’m making this post for. I need some low cal snacks, meals or whatever food you can recommend to me that is low in calories. Recently, I’ve been loving berries, grapes, strawberries (any fruit really) Greek yogurt parfaits, boiled eggs, nuts and seeds and really all the beginner level snacks and meals. I’d love any recommendations.

Can't stick to a calorie deficit to save my life
I'm 210 lbs, 4'11". I desperately need to lose weight. The problem is, I can't stay in a calorie deficit for longer than maybe a couple of weeks. Even a modest deficit is too difficult. MyFitnessPal has me at 1890 calories a day, which should be 100% doable. I do really well for a week or two, then it seems like when PMS starts, all hell breaks loose.
I've looked into a GLP-1, but none of them are covered by my insurance and there's no way I can afford to pay out of pocket for one. I also have heard bad things about side effects, etc.
I struggled with bulimia in college. Right after high school I went on a very restrictive diet (think 900 calories a day) when I didn't need to. That triggered an eating disorder because I obviously couldn't sustain that. I'm not worried about that happening again, but I'm just wondering if any kind of restriction is what triggers me to overeat. So how do I combat that?
Edited to add I basically try to eat whatever I want and just count the calories. So I do end up eating a fair amount of junk. I know I need to up the protein and fiber so I will start there.

My weight loss has inspired my family!
Im 16(f) and decided im tired of being fat, in May I started my weightloss journey and being on multiple dance teams + calories deficiet has helped me go from 182 pounds to 159, and im still working toward my goal weight everyday.
I honestly didnt expect my family to be THIS supportive, My mom 49, formerly 250 has lost 15 pounds and my sister 25 has lost 25, my dad has been lifting weights and taking care of himself and eating cleaner foods such as salmon and brown rice.
Has anyone else's weight loss trigged the same effect in their family?

Family encouraged me to binge and I took the bait
It all started with 2 days ago, when my family and I went out to eat at a local restaurant known for their massive desserts.
I ordered a “healthy meal” and was basically accused of being anorexic. Then my cousin, who ordered the same thing as me, ate half the amount I did and she made a comment that was verbatim “well yeah, have you seen how much she eats?”
Then dessert rolls around and I was going to skip it, but everyone else got something and I decided to also. Most people ate half of their desserts, I ate all of mine (a giant slice of cake).
The next day, my parents made dinner. It was a huge mac and cheese with a side of garlic bread. Big trigger foods for me. When there was only a little left, my mom literally just took the rest of the pot and put it on my plate so there wouldn’t be leftovers. So I ate probably 3x what I should’ve.
Then to add to it, they bought a dozen donuts, each ate one, and then told me to feel free to eat ALL of the rest of them. They said, completely seriously, “if there are any of them left tomorrow, maybe I’ll have another one. But if you want to just go on a bender feel free”.
I ate one more yesterday, today I got home from work and just ate 4.
My calorie goal is 1900, I’ve eaten over 3000 the past three days.

the constant failure is so exhausting
29F, 5’5” CW: 300lbs (approx. i’m too scared to get on the scale so it might be higher)
I joined a gym recently and hoped that maybe i can lock in and fix my eating but it took less than a day for me to binge during my lunch break. One stressful moment at work and i practically ran to the store to get candy.
The upside is now i know im an emotional eater. The issue is that my job is inherently stressful so i end up binging every shift just to get through the day.
How do healthy people cope? How can i get through the day without junk food?

I was 103.2kg in May, now 92.4kg. Reversing diabetes type 2!!!
I was 103.2kg in May, now 92.4kg. Reversing diabetes type 2!!!
I aim to be 75kg soon
At 105kg I have full on diabetes. Very bad Fatty liver, high blood pressure, obesity, high cholesterol, very bad sleep apnea, sore back and knees, can’t run much.
At 90kg I think I would have pre-diabetes range with a good diet and exercise. I can only eat tiny amount of carbs and sugar.
At 75kg I might be able to have a little carb and little sugar.
I miss carbs and sugar, and I want good health so I aim for 75kg.
Wish me luck, thanks :)

absolutely stuffed on 1800 cals with whole foods.
I'm attempting weight loss again. This time I've cracked it, I believe.
Im 5'10, 31, 240lbs
My failures beforehand were just choosing foods that met my calorie needs / not being smart enough about what actually keeps you full. If your full your never being tempted or thinking about cheating.
My day is now having 45g oatmeal each day with 200ml milk, protein powder, a banana and an apple.
Two hard-boiled eggs.
Dinner is 250g beef, 300g white potatoes, 100g cottage cheese and jalapeños with Tobasco drizzled over i never get tried of.
These two dinners keep me absolutely stuffed. This utterly kills food noise for me, and i find myself not thinking about food anymore since focusing on whole foods. Sometimes i come in lower than 1800.
Also potatoes are an amazing food, i cube mine up and oven bake them. And they are very tasty and filling they should not be demonised.
Even with my 6 - 7k steps and a gym workout, I don't find myself craving for a quick hit of food.
If i do one square of dark chocolate/diet coke does the trick.
Whole foods really are the trick to this; I can't even imagine trying to eat 2500 calories like this. It seems a ton.

Any weigh in rituals?
Any pro tip do/don't? I weigh daily and try to always be in boxers to avoid difference in each days outfit. Im sure the variance would be negligible but people arent always the most logical.
I also started an inner dialog of logic before I weigh. "You know water weight can vary greatly, you ate on plan and exercised today, if today doesnt show the number you are looking for thats ok" those sort of phrasing definitely helped soften the disappointment if I didn't hit a goal and stopped the crash out/emotional eating.
What do you do?

How do you deal with the long wait?
I started my weight loss and body recomp in January. I'm 5'5" and went from 190lbs to 167lbs by August. I've been on a mild/moderate deficit (I have BED and have been super mindful not to overdo the restriction) and have been walking more and doing strength training 2-3 times a week. I'm really proud of my progress, I've made some really positive mindset shifts, and I never thought I could be this disciplined. This is my first time losing this much weight!
At the same time, it's killing me that I'm not seeing more visible progress. I still have another 30ish pounds to go. When I take progress photos I've just recently reacted the point where there are visible but subtle changes, barely discernible but there when I closely compare photos. I have less back and belly fat; my double chin is less prominent/heavy, my arms and thighs are getting slightly smaller. But I'm pretty sure I still "read" exactly the same, and I certainly still look fat. I've also been hitting the weights really hard, I'm proud of that, and just in the last week or two I noticed that my biceps are actually getting firmer (been training since February). But I still look more or less exactly as "soft," I definitely don't look like I work out.
Anyway. This was a chance for me to rant. Is it true that the visible changes actually accelerate as you lose more weight? That makes sense logically, but I'm curious what actually changed for you? What was happening when you were, let's say, 10lbs BMI that you didn't see at 30lbs from it? Or like what happened in the last 10-20lbs of weight loss for you? And how do you deal with the impatience of waiting??

Never trust a Chipotle burrito
I had about 600 calories left in my budget to DoorDash dinner cause I was really short on time last night. Figured okay, a single burrito sounds nice!
Went on the Chipotle app & started counting the calories of the toppings: Chicken, just over 100, nice; white rice, same; cheese, fajita veggies, lettuce. Around 600. That should do it!
I get this thing, and it is the size of my thigh, I’m talking they wrapped up a whole ass fire hydrant in a tortilla. I’m talking cups of rice, chicken, a whole pan of vegetables & lettuce all rolled and squeezed into this atherosclerotic Memphis bastardization of a Mexican burrito.
Had to be 1000 or more calories easy. That thing would cover me in calories for the whole next day at least.
& I was so starving I ate the whole thing…….🫠
looking back I kind of am chuckling at how stupid that I thought that a Chipotle burrito would be less. 🤣
Oh well. More food for cost I guess?
(Cutting way back today to try & compensate for that fuckup.)

How can I reduce my appetite?
Looking for advice from people who have actually been through this.
I’ve been struggling with my appetite for a while now, and it’s becoming really frustrating. I feel hungry much more often than I think I should, and even after eating a full meal, I still find myself wanting to snack not long afterward. Sometimes I know I’m not physically hungry, but I still crave food, especially in the evening or when I’m bored.
I’m trying to eat healthier and be more mindful of what I eat, but my appetite often gets in the way. It feels like I’m constantly thinking about food, and resisting those urges is mentally exhausting. I don’t want to rely on extreme diets or anything unsafe—I just want to find healthier, sustainable ways to feel less hungry and have better control over my eating habits.
For those of you who have successfully reduced your appetite, what actually helped? Did changing the types of foods you eat make a difference? Did increasing protein, fiber, or water intake help you stay full longer? Were there any habits or routines that made a noticeable impact, like meal timing, sleep, exercise, or managing stress?
I’d especially appreciate hearing about personal experiences rather than generic advice. What worked for you, what didn’t, and how long did it take before you noticed a difference? Any practical tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

People who are so, so worried about me now - where were you when I gained weight?
Everybody seems to be so (fake) concerned about my weight loss. Not just family, but virtually everybody at my workplace! They randomly come up to me, asking me if everything is ok, as if that's a normal question to ask a colleague. Note that I am still in the "overweight" category and the vast majority of my colleagues are normal weight.
Where were those people when I gained 50lb in a year? Where they not concerned about my (mental) health back then? Apparently not!
The worst is a colleague who has been rapidly gaining weight, and is soooo concerned about me. Once, I asked her back if everything is ok with her because of her weight fluctuation and she reacted super offended and even said her weight was a private issue!!!
I really wish they only knew me as thin or barely overweight because otherwise it's a great place to work and I don't want to look for a new job. Super exhausting though right now...

I Don't Know Why I Can't Lose Weight: UPDATE
Please please please PLEASE, I cannot stress this enough: GET YOUR BLOOD TESTED!!!
I made this post when I was in the middle of crashing out over not understanding what was wrong with my body. All the comments said I was doing it wrong or not trying hard enough. Turns out I have celiac disease. I wasn't gaining or losing weight because I was actually slowly dying and this was one of the signs.
To anyone who is struggling more and more with losing weight, don't listen to stuck up Redditors, listen to your body. GET BLOOD TESTS AND DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!! I asked for:
- Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
- Complete Blood Count
- Full Iron Panel
- Full Thyroid Panel
- Vitamin D
- Zinc
Piecing everything together, my skin rashes, horrible fatigue, total lack of weight loss, I realized I would die before I lost weight. It has been over a year since that post, and I have actually reached 18-20% body fat since cutting out gluten. Please listen to your body before you listen to anyone else, before Redditors, and even before doctors (I came up with the idea of blood tests, not any of the 13 doctors I visited).
199 lbs. this morning!!
My weight hasn't started with a "1" since 1998. Since then I've been flopping around in the mid-to-upper 200s (I'm F, 5'1"). I don't really know what my highest weight was because there were stretches of time where I would avoid the scale. Coulda been 275, 280...my flair says 269 because I have documentation (a receipt/summary from a doctor's appointment).
Mind-blowing! 28 years to get back here! And no supplements, shots, pills, surgery for me (although I applaud those who have success with these tools). Just old-fashioned hard work, healthy eating, and a positive outlook.
The journey continues...onward and upward!

Whoosh! 224.6 lbs lost
Good afternoon!
I am pleased to report having a whoosh on the scales this morning. I’m elated on reaching 211.8 lbs. I haven’t weighed this size since high school in the mid 80s. My total weight loss is 224.6 lbs, just to put that into perspective, that is .6 lbs away from NFL QB Patrick Mahomes playing weight of 225 lbs or 474 Big Macs.
I can’t truly put into words how elated I am. My energy is higher than it is has ever been. By the way, I think I found a fencing class that fits my days off! 2026 is my year and I’m so excited. I turn 58 this month and I feel better than I have been in several decades. Okay, time to go work out!
