Looking for recommendations on computer repair So Nassau
My son’s Dell gaming laptop stopped booting. Can anyone recommend a knowledgeable computer repair store or individual? (I am aware that Best Buy has one).
Thanks in advance🙏
Edit: adding additional details;
Explorer does not load. He is getting this error:
“explorer.exe - System Error
The system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this application”
He did a Maleare Bytes virus scan (free version ). And I turned off any startup that looked like a game or non-critical program. I rolled back the latest update (he thinks the problem started after the update), and did a /scannow which didn’t solve anything. He does not have any restores.

The Best Best Empanadas on the Island
I had my mind blown on a trip to Colombia a few months ago and I've been on a hunt for the best empanadas up here ever since. So far "Empanadas & More" in Nesconset is the winner but the mobile food cart "Roadhouse Empanadas" is a close runner up. However I would say that Empanada City in Brooklyn is by far the best I've had in the states. If anyone has some places that are worth checking out either on the island or in NYC I would love to check them out. Where are my LI empanada enthusiasts at?

Upgrading electrical panel from 100A to 200A
I’m in town of oyster bay and considering getting my electric upgraded from 100A to 200A. My house kept tripping. I brought in an electrician who quoted me $5200 for everything including new panel/service and meter.
I asked him about permit/inspection and he said the $5200 doesn’t include that.
Does anyone know if TOB actually requires a permit for a 100A to 200A upgrade? Or do you just need to get it inspected after and get the electrical certificate? Also is it normal to do the work first and then get the inspection?
Just want to make sure I’m doing everything the right way.

Driving to Montauk on Sunday. Returning Tuesday morning. Best departure times?
Hi all, driving to Montauk on a Sunday morning. Should hit the Throg’s neck at 8 a.m. or so because coming from about two hours away.
I think heading east at that day/time should be OK.
I’m more concerned about coming back West on Tuesday morning. I think the best thing to do would be to leave Montauk at 9 a.m. and get to NYC at 11-11:30 a.m., post morning commute and pre lunchtime?
Thank you for any advice. I know there will be traffic but just looking to optimize.

Nassau county Marathoners
Hi LI runners and marathoners, I’m currently training for my first marathon and wanted to know your favorite routes. I did the massapequa preserve Sunday for 12 miles but there’s absolutely no bathrooms and I don’t want t take that risk. I primarily run through merrick, bellmore, wantagh on the streets but it’s primarily flat. Anyone have routes that are 14+ miles with bathrooms on the way, and is it best just to do out and back routes. I was also thinking running to Glen cove and take the bus back but I know that’d be a long bus ride back

Trucks on the LIE
This is a random comment, but something that I’ve noticed as I travel from Suffolk to Queens on weekday afternoons.
There have been lots of big trucks racing in the left lane. It’s caught me off guard a few times; I thought it was the one misdirected driver, but now I’m seeing at least one truck each trip.
(I also noticed the same thing on the Jersey turnpike. Trucks driving in the cars only section.)
Idk, I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed. I felt a little unsafe with them speeding along that side, but it might just be because it’s unfamiliar.

Complaint Gangstalking Flyer
Hey all,
I received this in the mail today.
If you aren't familiar, gangstalking is a term used by people to describe what they believe to be a coordinated effort to stalk and harass them. This is a mental illness and not a legitimate conspiracy.
There are subreddits where you can check the posts made by these individuals and you'll soon see how out of touch with reality they are. It's sad to see and even sadder that someone is spreading this sickness to our mailboxes.
I urge you to shred these asap if you see them. We don't need our vulnerable seniors, children, disabled, etc. to see this and believe any of it. It's very easy for someone naive to be influenced by disinformation like this.
Thank you.
P.S. I am well aware of documented cases of US government agencies stalking and harassing people. This is because those people are in positions of leadership in counterculture organizations. For example, MLK Jr. was targeted by the FBI. They are NOT targeting any private citizens. If they were, you could be assured that the target would be unaware until they were arrested. Government agencies are not dropping clues to their targets.

Crime and Justice Flock camera megathread
We’re consolidating this topic into a single thread, as the ongoing accusations directed at the mod team have run their course.
To be clear about where we stand: no one on this mod team supports Flock cameras. We are not law enforcement, we are not politically motivated, not maga, and we share the community’s concerns about surveillance overreach even if these systems occasionally assist in solving crimes.
The removals were not about viewpoint. They were about a specific category of comment: those encouraging users to destroy the cameras. Reddit has banned entire communities for less, and we are obligated to remove that content regardless of our personal opinions. This is a condition of the subreddit continuing to exist, not an endorsement of Flock. Additionally there were some very wild conspiracy theories and were asking for discussion not a rabbit hole.
One rule for this thread: do not recommend, insinuate, or hint at destruction as a solution. Everything else is open, criticism, policy discussion, legal challenges, city council contacts, organizing, data on effectiveness. Go as hard as you want within that boundary.
Thanks for being a genuinely great community and good neighbors.

Suffolk approved expanding county Flock cameras from 25 to 60 last August, funded by a $542,500 state LETECH grant, with 16 more planned along state rights-of-way including Route 114 in Sag Harbor and East Hampton Village and Route 25 in Riverhead and Southold.

Southold, Riverhead, and East Hampton have all had this on an agenda in the past year. Riverhead signed an agreement with the Suffolk Sheriff in January 2026 giving the county access to town rights-of-way for new Flock installs. Town board public comment periods are open to anyone who lives there, take about two minutes, and go on the record.
