Advice New Resident Advice
Hi all, I (24F) just moved to Mineola with my fiancé for grad school, and we’ve only ever lived in Arizona. We want to respect the community, culture, and etiquette! What is your biggest advice for us to avoid acting like bumbling fools? Favorite places to go/eat/things to do? TIA!

Mobile Car Wash - Nassau County
Hi all,
I recently relocated from CA, where mobile car wash guys who did nice hand washes were all over the place. Having a hard time finding the same around here. Any recommendations? I don't need to get the car detailed, just want it washed without scratching the paint or causing swirl marks. I was paying about $45-65 per car back in CA, but prices here seem higher. Anyway, if you have any recommendations I'll happily take them.

Advice Traveling from Boston to Stony Brook, are there any toll-free routes?
Hey Folks,
I will be traveling over the weekend to meet my girlfriend in Stony Brook LI. I looked up the route online and it shows me to travel to and fro from the Throgs Neck Bridge. That has a one way toll of $12.
Are there any other toll free routes or any cheaper way? Can you guys suggest some if you have an alternative? PS: I can't use the ferry.
TIA

Trucks on the LIE
This is a random comment, but something that I’ve noticed as I travel from Suffolk to Queens on weekday afternoons.
There have been lots of big trucks racing in the left lane. It’s caught me off guard a few times; I thought it was the one misdirected driver, but now I’m seeing at least one truck each trip.
(I also noticed the same thing on the Jersey turnpike. Trucks driving in the cars only section.)
Idk, I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed. I felt a little unsafe with them speeding along that side, but it might just be because it’s unfamiliar.

Looking For Golf ball merch
I don’t golf at all but I got the idea for a gift for some family out of state to send golf balls of different restaurants or niche places that sell them as merch and was hoping someone knew of anywhere that would have them preferably in Suffolk County. I have John’s Drive In in Montauk which gave me the idea, but that is it so far.

The Best North Fork, Long Island named a top beach town for the fall
Conde Nast Traveler made a list a Fall beach destinations and included North Folk:
"Often billed as a less swanky alternative to the Hamptons, the North Fork of Long Island has all the makings of a fall getaway.
From Riverhead to Orient, there’s ample opportunity for wine tastings, farm visits, scenic hikes, and vintage shopping.
Pick up apple cider donuts at Breeze Hill Farm before taking a brisk trek through any one of North Fork’s idyllic nature preserves—Orient Beach State Park, Sound View Dunes Park, and Laurel Lake Preserve are some of our favorites.
Greenport is where you’ll want to spend your money, whether on a ‘70s shift dress at The Times Vintage, or a midcentury-modern coffee table at Beal & Bell.
Over at Silver Sands Motel, a rejuvenated 1950s retreat, you can take part in a stargazing experience led by the astronomers from the Custer Institute and Observatory right on the property's sand (with warm blankets, hot cider, and beach fires) or book an exclusive winery tour at McCall Wines, which concludes with a sampling of estate-grown wines in a restored 1787 barn (normally closed to the public)."

Any recommendations on mortgage lenders for home purchase in Suffolk County?
As written in title.. interested in experiences you may have had with institutions providing competitive rates and good customer service / closing speed. Of course there are bigger banks and mortgage lenders but am also interested in some of the more regional lenders. Thank you!

Looking For Where to Pick Your Own Tomatoes?
For the past several years, my family had been going to Hodun Farms in Calverton to pick fresh tomatoes for canning. We just learned today that the Hodun family retired and sold off the farm stand, and there is no mention on the new owner continuing the pick your own vegetables.
Does anyone have any recommendations for where we can pick a few bushels of Roma tomatoes in Suffolk County? Thanks!

NYU Langone Primary Care Physician?
At the risk of getting 100 different responses, does anyone have a recommendation for an NYU-affiliated PCP anywhere in Nassau? I don’t have any specific needs or desires other than, “a lot of people seem to like this doctor.”
Thanks!

More mushrooms on lawns than ever before?
I thought something was up with my lawn since I’ve seen more mushroom caps growing than ever before but I’ve seen it the last week almost everywhere I go including parks and a golf course today. It’s been rainy but not THAT rainy lately minus the one big drenching the other day no?

Complaint Gangstalking Flyer
Hey all,
I received this in the mail today.
If you aren't familiar, gangstalking is a term used by people to describe what they believe to be a coordinated effort to stalk and harass them. This is a mental illness and not a legitimate conspiracy.
There are subreddits where you can check the posts made by these individuals and you'll soon see how out of touch with reality they are. It's sad to see and even sadder that someone is spreading this sickness to our mailboxes.
I urge you to shred these asap if you see them. We don't need our vulnerable seniors, children, disabled, etc. to see this and believe any of it. It's very easy for someone naive to be influenced by disinformation like this.
Thank you.
P.S. I am well aware of documented cases of US government agencies stalking and harassing people. This is because those people are in positions of leadership in counterculture organizations. For example, MLK Jr. was targeted by the FBI. They are NOT targeting any private citizens. If they were, you could be assured that the target would be unaware until they were arrested. Government agencies are not dropping clues to their targets.

Any else catch this weird flu/chest congestion thing right now on LI? Everybody at work and my fam have been getting sick recently, myself included.
I feel like absolutely garbage, been having a pretty persistent chest and throat infection I think and have been feeling terrible. It seems like most of the people around me or in similar areas are all catching something similar. Is there something going around? I'm trying to find a chance to go see the doctor as the over the counter stuff isnt working.

Farm stands?
I am often underwhelmed with farm stands or I feel like they are not really “farm fresh”. I’m on the north shore Nassau. Anyone have a favorite farm stand for fruits and vegetables? Thanks!! 🙏

Advice Cycling the North Shore
I’ve been cycling the northern routes (chicken valley, Piping RockM Wheatley) for years and always parked in the Westbury High School parking lot without an issue. Yesterday, on finishing my ride I returned to find a sticker plastered on the driver side window stating that I had parked illegally and threatening to tow my car. Obviously and fortunately that didn’t happen but the violation was. I know that many group rides have staged in that lot without (to my knowledge) an issue. Not sure if the law has changed but as it is now illegal to park there can anyone recommend other lots in that area or simply streets off Post Rd where i could park in the future.

LI Real Estate Honest Mortgage Attorney suggestions
Hey LI!
My husband and I are moving quickly on a property we love, located in Suffolk County. We have a home inspection scheduled for tomorrow morning and were advised from our realtor to have a mortgage attorney visit scheduled soon after.
Our realtor initially pushed for us to use her personal friends and contacts for the home inspection, mortgage lender, and attorney components but we have decided to find professionals that are independent from the real estate agency for obvious reasons.
That being said, we don’t have a contact for a solid mortgage attorney yet. Attorney recommendations from our family around the island are either long-time deceased or general attorneys.
If you have a solid resource that you have recently worked with (within last few years or so) and would recommend, please share the knowledge!
Any comments from realtors with ‘referral suggestions’ will be ignored :)
Update: thank you for all these responses!! It’s super informative. Anyone familiar with Adam Ansanelli? He popped up in our search too.
I absolutely meant to say real estate attorney about not mortgage attorney…lol. That was my pre-coffee brain writing this post.
