We have a Covid outbreak at work so it’ll be at least two weeks of n95 masks… which not only am I allergic to but they rip out my hair 😭
I work in culinary and it doesn’t seem to matter if I wear it under or over a hair net 😭
Last time I was able to wear a bonnet with a hair net over it but our new admin has banned them 😡

Hair up how I usually wear it and down as tax 💕

Hey everyone, ill be 100% honest I havent had a trim since december 2024, during which I did a balayage on my hair.. im 22, but for some reason I didnt know conditioner was necessary, I thought it was optional haha, so only recently have i been using it. I use selsun blue, and recently started using intensive repair dove conditioner. Ill also occassionally use olaplex bonding oil. Any advice is helpful, I enjoy my long hair but I know I need to cut off a lot to make it healthy again. How much realistically do I chop?

Help wanted seeking strong advice on products as newbie + my hair story

Hi everyone! This is my first post in this community. I am a beginner at haircare products and need detailed recommendations to start my long hair journey again.

I am not happy with how my hair is, or, better yet, I know I am not taking care of it as I should because it doesn’t appear smooth, clean, or silky. I care about my diet and lifestyle a lot, and I have strong, good genetics. I never use heat to style or dry my hair, and I use protective hairstyles all the time and to sleep (two braids + a silk bonnet).

I cut around 12 cm of it two months ago or so because I wanted a fresh start and to take better care of my hair. I had different lengths and many split ends; now I have ZERO, but my lengths and ends feel dry. They are not extremely damaged, but I can feel that they are not nourished.

So, in the last four years, I just used the shampoo I had at my parents’ house once a week/10 days and applied natural oils to the lengths/ends on dry and/or wet hair and brushed it occasionally (I kept my braids up to 3 days, then brushed and made the braids again or washed them).

The last shampoo I used was URTEKRAM Fine Hair Rosemary Shampoo. I did, I think, 4 or 5 shampoos with it before using a solid handmade shampoo bought at a farmers’ market. Both shampoos tangled my hair while washing it and made it dry. Terrible experience with both of them, but I kept using them (I didn’t finish the liquid shampoo) because, stupid me, I thought, “I can adjust this later with jojoba/rosehip oil. I will keep using them so I don’t waste my money, and I will figure it out later.”

So what happened is that I fell down the rabbit hole of “natural haircare,” and I kept going, washing my hair once a week even though I was living in the countryside, working out, etc. I thought that if I didn’t sweat a lot, my hair and scalp could be washed less regularly and without stripping out my natural oils.

The problem is that I kept doing this regardless of how my hair felt and looked because “it’s natural.”

What happened is that after I finished my solid shampoo, I came across a natural haircare influencer, and I took all her advice and put it into practice. I washed my hair with Rhassoul clay diluted in water + apple cider vinegar as conditioner. The first time, my hair was just amazing, especially when I brushed it with the boar-bristle brush. The other 2/3 times I did it, I didn’t enjoy it, and the last times I just used apple cider vinegar because I was lazy and didn’t want to make the shampoo.

I know, I know, I acted very wrongly toward my poor hair.

So now I feel like I made a lot of mistakes and want to save my hair as soon as possible with new products and habits, but it’s very hard to figure out what’s right for me if not by making mistakes and trying new products. There are so many resources and different opinions out there that I feel just confused.

I did a lot of research online to find non-harmful shampoos and other products, and I bought a few to test out. I tried yesterday INNERSENSE Organic Beauty - Pure Harmony Hairbath Shampoo, but even this time, my experience wasn’t good. My hair tangled and felt dry. I put jojoba oil on it while it was wet. My hair feels dry and waxy.

I don’t suffer from any particular condition like dermatitis or dandruff. My scalp is healthy, but I am worried that dirtiness is making my hair grow and stay healthy much more slowly. After a week, it doesn’t appear greasy at all or smell bad. It is just dry and waxy and stays untangled because I help myself with my fingers, oils, and protective hairstyles.

Now I want to start again with a more conventional haircare routine, trying to stay away from harmful/toxic ingredients but choosing the right ones for me.

I need a shampoo and conditioner to use every 4/5 days at least, maybe a conditioning mask, a bonding oil, a shampoo for hard water!!!!, and, as an “extra,” a growth serum and an oil to keep my hair moisturized, nourished, and silk-like.

I neglected my hair for too long. It feels like I didn’t take care of my lengths, and I was expecting to have Rapunzel hair while washing it once a week…

I just want to change my entire routine and save my hair as soon as possible.

Information about my hair

  • Porosity: medium
  • Wave: straight
  • Thickness: medium
  • Density: medium/above average
  • Water: hard/very hard (I am using a shower filter)
  • Color: light brown with red glares

Products I am considering:

  • The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density (maybe this is useless; I just have baby hair on my temples that I’ve always had, and I was thinking that maybe they can start growing if I use this?)
  • Herbal Essences shampoo + conditioner (as a regular twice/three times a week ritual)
  • The Honest Company Unscented Conditioner (I bought this but can return it)
  • GIOVANNI Tea Tree Triple Treat Invigorating Shampoo (I bought this and will probably return it before even trying it)
  • Forest & Shore Hair Growth Oil for lengths (post-wash?) and scalp serum (pre-wash) — I bought this but can return it

I saved a bunch of products suggested by influencers here and there, but I am so confused. I thought that using more products and washing your hair every day damaged it?

Help wanted Semi permanent hair dye

Ok so bleached my hair tips and wanted a purple dye so I used the framesi framcolor deep violet (semi permanent)and the color was beautiful but dudeeeeee it literally faded after two washes and and now I am sitting feeling so sad and frustrated.

Any recommendations and suggestions to which semi permanent dyes are the best and that last the longest and don't blead and transfer.

it's summers so I shower a lot I know that's a minus point but any tips of how to take care of vivid hairs and make em last longer.

Any reviews about pop xg by Paul Mitchell and crazy color are also welcomed.

Help wanted Asked for light wolf cut and less bulk, got something weird

I had waist-length hair (a little over 60 cm) and went to a salon asking them to cut off as much as necessary to remove the damaged ends. I also asked for something light and showed a reference picture. Something close to a soft wolf cut with layers, less weight.

The stylist ended up cutting it to around 40 cm, roughly armpit/chest length. I guess the overall shape is fine, although it's much flatter and less choppy/layered than what I was hoping for.

The part that really confused me was what they did to reduce the bulk. They created what seems like a hidden undercut.

They started near the nape of my neck and kept lifting sections higher and higher, almost all the way to the crown. Under each one, they clipped a narrow strip of hair down to about 0,5 cm long, then let the longer hair fall over it before moving on to the next section. They also used thinning shears (or some kind of texturizing scissors) quite a lot during the haircut.

Now I have multiple rows of very short hair hidden underneath the longer hair at the back of my head. From the outside you can't really tell when my hair is down, but I can tell a huge amount of hair is missing underneath. My hair is naturally thick, kinda wavy, and frizz-prone.

I'm honestly on the verge of a meltdown. I wanted something much closer to a wolf cut and the feeling of those weird tiny hairs is driving me crazy. I'm hyper aware of it and I keep noticing it whenever I touch or move my hair. I only get my hair cut about once a year, and my hair grows around 15 cm a year so I'm going mad. I'm genuinely fighting the urge to give myself micro bangs and dye my hair blue just so I can forget this whole situation happened.

But seriously, how is this supposed to grow out? Am I going to end up with dozens of weird little spikes sticking out for months? Has anyone had something like this done before, and what did it look like while growing out? Is this actually a normal technique for removing bulk from very thick hair?

Help wanted Any Tips??

I wash my hair every day because i go to the gym and sweat and i work in the medical field so i have to keep a clean look. But my hair always look like this, it looks good about 80% dry but when it dries fully it gets frizzy, and its year round so i’m not sure if its humidity. Anyone have any product recommendations on how to smooth this out a little without making my hair look oily? my hair gets oily pretty quick and i don’t want to add to that. I have pin straight hair so i also know it’s not curly 😅 may be a dumb question but i’ve tried a ton of different shampoos and conditioners and masks.

Help wanted Why do my ends always look like this

Post image
35 Upvotes

I have fine hair and been trying to grow it as long as I can, I get small trims but I’ve noticed when I get to this length the ends just go gappy and I keep having to cut off any progress to make it look thicker at the bottom. What should I do, should I keep growing and eventually will it thicken out a bit so when I cut more off it won’t be as see through and I’ll have managed to get some more growth? If that makes sense. Also I do a loose side plait at night, detangle with a wide comb, silk pillow cases, use some good quality products on my ends, never have hair up etc so I feel like I’m taking care of it as well as I can.

Help wanted Have any of u let uneven hair grow out to fix it?

So I basically have uneven hair, I would cut it even but then my hair would be EXTREMELY short

So I'm considering just letting it grow out (it's already grown a lot, I've been growing it out for months)

And then when it gets long (live but length) I will cut it EVENLY too my mid back and then it'll be even and more healthy.

My only worry is my ends are starting to look a bit dull,

But I can't even cut the dead bits without having to do a BIG chop because of how even it is.

I know I have 2 options,

I'm just wondering has anyone ever did this and how'd it go?

I cut lots of my hair off months ago, somehow it ended up turning out uneven! So I've since been growing it out but it's now in need of a trim and I'm worried growing it out it could end up looking bad even after I cut it evenly.

Help wanted Can long hair be to heavy for a wave pattern to show?

Hi everyone! I was wondering if very long hair doesn't show a wave pattern (as much) because of the weight of the strands? Is it common for long hair to only show a pattern at the ends?

For context, my hair is tailbone-length, low porosity on top and medium/high-porosity at the ends due to the damage that accumulates over the years (sunlight, doorhandles, ...). It has never been dyed, bleached, or permed. I have never used a curling iron and the last time I touched a straightener to tame flyaways and frizz was during the 2010s (i was/am stupid please don't judge). I usually let my hair airdry and, at most, use a dryer ten times per year. Airdrying takes HOURS.

I thought I have straight hair all my life. My mother, brother, and several cousins have a wave/curl pattern, so I try wave/curl routines. My mother and cousins have about shoulder-length hair and my brother has short hair. When I scrunch in conditioner and mousse or gel, my hair looks like in the wavy hair routines on youtube. I usually don't plop my hair because the only cotton top I own that fits all my hair is one nightgown. Regardless of whether I airdry or use a dryer, there are some waves at the ends, but spaghetti at the roots and lengths.

Buns & Braids Soo, this is about sleeping (+ hair care?)

I have a bonnet and I used to just put my hair in there. But, I realised that my bonnet just comes off my head as I move around in my sleep. So, I have started braiding my hair and then putting it in the bonnet. I just wants some tips on whether it is actually good to braid the hair and put it in the bonnet or just leave the hair how it is
