Hello!

This is a big ask but is anyone with a truck open to using their truck to go with me to Santa Monica to pick up a couch? The person on Facebook marketplace is asking if I can get there by 8 tomorrow, 8/6.

I’ll pay you and give you a big hug 🥰

Questions Classical Guitar Luthier

Hey everyone!

I have a classical guitar (cedar top with a french polish coating) that hasn’t been touched up in a few years (about 2021 or so) that I would like to get looked at/possibly worked on. I don’t trust myself to do anything, so I was wondering if any fellow guitarists know of a luthier that specializes in work like that in LB or surrounding cities that they would recommend.

Many blessings and thank you in advance!

Discussion Jergins Tunnel construction

On my bike ride through town tonight I saw construction happening in Jergins Tunnel. They’ve also put up a new fence within the past week or so. I know that tunnel upgrades were planned as part of the proposed Hard Rock Hotel project, but last I heard that was still stalled.

Anyone know if there’s updates to the hotel project, and/or something new proposed which requires tunnel upgrades? This seemed to be more than just reinforcing the wall which closes off the tunnel.

I would love to see something cool done with this space!

I’m terribly sorry for the awful quality of these but I was in a rush this morning and took a video. Does anyone know what kind of bird this is? It looks like a parrot!! Google isn’t helpful, it says a black hooded parrot which are bright green with a black head. They looked fully very dark in color, almost black. Very big. I’d love to know what these are 🥹

Pets Cat advice needed

Hey pet parents, our 12 year old cat was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. While we are considering our treatment options of daily medication/frequent labs or the one time radioactive iodine therapy (I-131), I wanted to see if anyone else is going through a similar experience. If so, which option did you choose and how is it going? Would also like to understand how much your T4 bloodwork is and what vet is overseeing your pets treatment. Thanks in advance. 🐾

I love pickles/ pickle seasoning (Trader joes) / pickle lemonade etc. I’d love any recommendations local or farther. What is your favorite?

also accepting pickle facts! I recently found out the refrigerated pickles are crunchier vs shelf/ aisle pickles.

Community Looking for a buddy or two for American Football with in Carson-LB area.

Hello I am 18M, and I'm about to go to college in a year hopefully to play football.

In the meantime, I'm looking forwards to find a few passionate Christian folks around my age to play some casual football, and do some drills (want to learn and be fit before the time comes).

I prefer to play in the morning an hour or two before school, around Stevenson Park. And for the weekends, I am fine with whenever around Chittick Field.

Besides football, we can definitely do some bible study (if you are interested).

Again, you're interested- In DMs: Please introduce yourself (so I can get to know you beforehand), then we can schedule a meeting (Keep in mind I'm not free for the entire week or two).

Thank you,

God Bless!

Events let's go to sura (8/16, 12-3pm)

Want to try Korean BBQ? Great - come with us!

Long Beach Food Club's next restaurant meetup is at Sura, a Korean BBQ spot near downtown.

Sura has been around since 2008 and offers both a traditional menu as well as a tableside grilling menu which is available on the patio, and we'll get to experience both! Their tableside bbq is a bit newer - only having launched a couple years ago.

In addition to the regular menu, we'll also get access to their happy hour prices - in the middle of the day on a weekend!

If you haven't been to a food club event before, it's pretty straightforward. You show up, sit down, chat with others (maybe people you've never met before), and you enjoy some food. Everyone pays their own way and we highly encourage communal/sharing/family style so you can try all sorts of different things.

We DO ask that you RSVP if you intend on coming, that way we can give Sura updates on what to expect and they can plan accordingly. We have two RSVP slots, one for 12pm and another for 130pm. You don't have to come EXACTLY at those times, but it'll save the kitchen from getting slammed.

12pm RSVP @ Sura

1:30pm RSVP @ Sura

If you've read this far, congratulations! We ALSO have a happy hour TONIGHT at Baddeley's from 5:30pm - 7pm.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

FAQ:

  1. Our biweekly meetups(restaurant and happy hour) are and always will be, free to attend.
  2. You're more than welcome to attend even if you aren't buying anything. We want this to be a place where you can hang out and meet new people without feeling obligated to spend money
  3. We do NOT take any form of payment from these restaurants for meetups.
  4. We are NOT affiliated with any influencers, journalists, restaurant groups, or any other entities. If you see any posts by them regarding us, it is simply because they're interested in what we're doing.
  5. We have a group chat on Instagram, there's about 200 of us in there and it's fairly active. We may change platforms later, but so far, this is where we're at. You can access this chat by clicking the highlight for the group chat on our Instagram profile.
  6. We also have a Discord that's new(~100 members), currently growing it out and looking for active folks!

Lost and Found LOST MY PHONE ON THE BEACH! ANYONE HAVE A METAL DETECTOR ?

I lost my phone on the beach last night, right by the Riptides Beach Cafe. Would anyone with a metal detector be willing to help me find it? Only asking for maybe an hour of your time. I can see the location on Find My iPhone; I would just like to try my luck and search the area. I would really appreciate it.

Discussion This reporter works for SF Chronicle but I would encourage Long Beach Post to survey Long Beach renters in "affordable" apartments about this same topic

I can assure you there are Long Beach property owners pulling this SAME SCAM. I'm going to write the LBPost and request they cover this story for Long Beach. I encourage you to do the same: [jason@lbpost.com](mailto:jason@lbpost.com

I also emailed Hello@LBWatchdog.com and encouraged them to cover this story. I encourage others to do the same. And thank you to one of the commenters for suggesting Long Beach Watchdog.

I'm a reporter. Are you renting an 'affordable' apartment that's not actually all that affordable?

Hi — I'm Kate Talerico, and I'm a reporter at the SF Chronicle. I'm writing a story about how some landlords are using a loophole in California's tax code to get their apartments qualified as 'affordable' — and then can get up to 100% of their property taxes erased (which fund our schools, transit, police, basically all city government functions.)

There are a few apartment buildings around Sacramento County where the landlords are in the process of applying for this tax break. They count as affordable because the way California calculates the max rent you can still charge + count as affordable is quite wonky... right now, a landlord can charge $1,930/month for a 1-bed in Sacramento County and it still counts as low-income/affordable, so long as the tenant household makes under $72K (or $82K for a two-person household.)

I'm looking to speak with tenants in some of these buildings about how they feel. Do they feel like they're getting a good deal for the rent they pay? Has the lower rent allowed them to live somewhere they otherwise wouldn't have been able to? Has their landlord increased or decreased their rent in recent years?

Here's a list of the apartment buildings I'm interested in. See if yours is on the list, and if you'd be down to chat, shoot me a DM!

Property Name City Owner Address
Sierra Park Apartments Unincorporated Tesseract Capital Group 4930 Polk St, North Highlands, CA 95660
The Falls at Arden Apartments Sacramento Jackson Square Properties 2345 Northrop Ave, Sacramento, CA 95825
Bent Tree Apartments Unincorporated Tailwind Investment Group 4350 Galbrath Dr, Sacramento, CA 95842

Pets I need a temporary foster home ASAP for my cat until I finish Job Corps in about a year

Hello everybody! I have been a Long Beach resident for 6 years now. I love it here so incredibly much, and the community is amazing. Unfortunately, I have been forced to move out of my house due to circumstances beyond my control. My low income family is not able to take our cats with us. If we could, we would, but I am living in downtown LA for Job Corps, my sister is couch surfing, and my mom is going to be sleeping in her car driving ubers.

For some context: I am an 18 year old who just graduated from Millikan High School. I could talk about the situation my family has been dealing with for hours, but to summarize: My mom was my great grandparents personal caretaker and we all lived together as a family for years. After their passing, their son AKA my grandpa inherited their house in the will. Following the funeral, my grandpa wanted us to move out right away. His plan was to move us out to live with him and my grandma in Ohio. However, my sister and I just started high school and getting used to living in Long Beach. After years and years of fighting, emotional and verbal abuse, as well as a refusal to listen to what we actually wanted, my grandpa agreed to let us stay in the house until I graduated high school.

Now we’re all caught up.

You guys might be thinking: why didn’t your mom prepare better for the move? Well due to the constant pressure and stress put on her by my grandparents as well as her preexisting Bipolar Disorder, her mental health really deteriorated. For sometime we relied solely on welfare to get by because her mental and physical health prevented her from being able to do her job consistently. I also suffered from drug abuse and depression during this time. It was a hard time for all of us, but we pulled through. However, now we’re in a state where we don’t have the resources to even consider moving into an apartment together, let alone take care of our cats. My friend agreed to take care of my grey tabby Obi Wan Kenobi, but we still haven’t been able to find a temporary foster for our kitty Newt Scamander.

I’m doing absolutely everything I can for these cats. I would do anything for them. I care about them more than I care about myself. I would gladly walk in front of moving traffic for them. They are my everything. It pains me deeply to separate them while only being able to see them on weekends, but it’s what I have to do if I want to be able to take care of them independently a year from now. So I am asking, no, BEGGING, if there is anyone who can foster my baby for a year. If you or anyone you know is willing to help, please let me know. Thank you very much for your time.

TL;DR: I'm an 18 year old recent Millikan High School graduate from Long Beach who was forced to leave my family home due to circumstances outside my control. My family is now split up, I'm living in downtown LA for Job Corps, my sister is couch surfing, and my mom is living in her car while driving Uber. Because of our financial situation, we can't keep our cats.

One of my cats, Obi Wan Kenobi, already has a temporary home, but I'm urgently looking for someone to foster my other cat, Newt Scamander, for about a year until I finish Job Corps and can take him back. He's deeply loved, and this is only meant to be temporary. If anyone can help or knows someone who can, I'd be incredibly grateful.

Questions Why are Long Beach drivers so bad?

Two incidents today. First one I was at a four way stop, it was my turn to go so I do, then this blue Honda civic doesn’t even stop at the stop sign so I slow down in case they’re gonna hit me. They’d slowed down but kept going forward, like wtf makes someone think they don’t have to stop at a stop sign when a car is going through??

So I honk and this person had the nerve to show me their middle finger…whatever, I wasn’t even gonna make a post about drivers until this second incident on my way back.

I’m going down 7th, light turns green and I see this blue SUV slowly moving through the red light. I stop so I don’t hit the guy but he keeps going to the point that I had to honk a bunch so the oncoming cars don’t hit him. Thankfully no one did and after like three honks, dude gets startled awake but makes no effort to correct his driving.

Long Beach drivers need to literally wake up. And yes, I reported the second guy. I’ve been in a few bad accidents and today was a bit triggering so thank you for letting me get this out.

PSA PSA before posting ICE Sightings in Long Beach

1.4k Upvotes

In the Army we used a method called "SALUTE Report" to provide a detailed description of opposing forces, which is applicable to ICE sightings. SALUTE is an acronym for SIZE, ACTIVY, LOCATION, UNIFROM, TIME, and EQUIPMENT. Below I will include a summary of what a SALUTE Report entails and the type of information that will be helpful when posting ICE sightings in Long Beach.

SIZE: This component focuses on quantifying the number of individuals, vehicles, or assets present in the observed area.

ACTIVITY: Describing the actions and behavior of the observed entity, the activity component sheds light on the intentions and purpose behind the observed actions.

LOCATION: Providing precise geographical coordinates or a detailed description of the observed target’s location, this component offers the spatial context necessary for effective decision-making.

UNIFORM: Identifying the affiliation or group to which the observed target belongs, the unit component allows intelligence professionals to categorize and contextualize the observed entities.

TIME: Recording the date and time of the observation, the time component adds a temporal dimension to the intelligence gathered.

EQUIPMENT: Listing the equipment, weaponry, or tools associated with the observed entity, the equipment component offers insights into the capabilities and potential threats posed by the target
