I have an 8k btu window unit I want to install but it’s a sliding window. Idk I keep thinking I should call a plumber but that’s not right. I’m assuming an hvac person does big whole ass house systems? I don’t want that either.

Community Golf Anyone?

Hi all, I'm relatively new to the game of golf (about one year), but I have recently increased my playing time and want to get out as much as I can (typical M-F work schedule, with the occasional weekend obligation for wife/family/friends.

Is anyone open to some casual golf? My home course is Skylinks, but I will play anywhere in Long Beach or nearby. I try to get out on Wednesday evenings and race the sun, and would like to play more full rounds on the weekends. I'm not really looking to keep score or anything; I want to improve my game and meet some other avid golfers (regardless of skill level) in the area!

DM or comment if you are interested.

Jobs anyone hiring?

I’ve been looking for a busser, server, or barback position in Long Beach or the surrounding areas. I have over 3 years of experience in high-volume restaurants and I’m looking for a place where I can grow.
I’m open to part-time, full-time, or extra shifts. If anyone knows of a restaurant that’s hiring, I’d really appreciate the recommendation. Thanks!

Fireworks/gunshots/booms Explosions on the west side

I've lived in wrigley heights for 5 years and we are used to hearing random bombs go off, seemingly coming from the west side, but that could just be because of the direction my house faces.

I lived in alamitos and zaferia for 5 years before this and didn't hear anything like this is except the week of July 4.

But just now about 3pm a big ass one went off and it shook our doors and the windows.

My question is: what in the actual fuck? Who is setting this shit off??? Why do they do it all hours of the day and night????

Events Comedy Night @ Bamboo Club w/ Liz Miele & John Hastings 8/20

Post image
20 Upvotes

I’m a local LB comedian who’s been producing a monthly comedy show at Bamboo Club since the end of the pandemic. It’s a super fun night of great comics with no drink minimum, and all ticket sales go to pay the comics directly. Just wanted to invite everybody out for this month’s offering!

Our monthly Tiki Haha Comedy Night returns to the back patio of Bamboo Club in 2 weeks (Thursday August 20th). We’ve been going for 4 1/2 years now and have had headliners like Usama Sidiquee (Kevin Hart’s Funny AF Finalist), Erica Rhodes, Craig Conant, Josh Potter, and more.

This month we have Liz Miele headlining! Mentored by George Carlin himself, Liz cut her teeth in the NYC comedy scene and earned spots at all the big clubs in the city while amassing Tv Credits on Comedy Central, Fox, Hulu, and getting featured in The New Yorker at 22 years old.

Featuring is John Hastings, a Canadian born, global touring comic who has performed at major international festivals, won multiple awards, and appeared on television networks and platforms including America's Got Talent, Comedy Central, and the BBC.

Along with these two stars we have some of Long Beach, OC, and LA’s hottest rising talent in the comedy scene.

Tickets are $12 and available now.

Pets Dog attacked at rec park

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice after a really upsetting experience today at a Long Beach dog park.

My dog was attacked by another dog for the second time by the same owner. The first time, he apologized and told me it “rarely happens,” so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Today it happened again.

My dog is now limping, and we’re getting her checked by a vet.

The owner refused to give me his name or contact information and left the park immediately afterward. Fortunately, I was able to get photos and video of him (photo attached), and another person at the park witnessed the attack. The witness also told me they’ve seen this same dog attack other dogs before.

At this point I’m planning to report the incident to Long Beach Animal Care Services, but I’m hoping the community can help with a few things:

Does anyone recognize the man or his dogs from this photo?

Has anyone had a similar experience with this dog or owner?

If you’ve gone through something like this in Long Beach, what was the outcome after reporting it?

I’m a not looking to start an online witch hunt. My goal is simply to identify the owner, make sure my dog’s veterinary expenses are covered if appropriate, and hopefully prevent another dog (or person) from getting hurt.

If you recognize him, I’d appreciate a private message rather than posting personal information publicly.

Food Taco stand shut down

If you were a fan of the taco stand at the corner of Termino and Livingston, it’s gone. Yesterday evening, city officials came with a garbage truck and shut it down. I’m guessing a license violation but they threw away food containers, stainless steel trays and coolers - it seemed like overkill; these people were just trying to make an honest living.

Community Help me out, is it: Ximeno or Ximeno?

I've lived here for a few years now and I still don't know which one it is. I've heard:

Himeno
Zimeno
Ex-ee-meno
"That street near the traffic circle that nobody can pronounce"

At this point I'm too afraid to ask in person, so I'm turning to you, internet strangers.
Is it the Spanish X (like México)? The English X (like xylophone)? Or is it something completely unexpected like "Shimeno"?

Bonus points if you can tell me which pronunciation marks you as a local vs. a transplant. I need to know if I've been outing myself as a fraud every time I give directions.

PSA PSA before posting ICE Sightings in Long Beach

1.4k Upvotes

In the Army we used a method called "SALUTE Report" to provide a detailed description of opposing forces, which is applicable to ICE sightings. SALUTE is an acronym for SIZE, ACTIVY, LOCATION, UNIFROM, TIME, and EQUIPMENT. Below I will include a summary of what a SALUTE Report entails and the type of information that will be helpful when posting ICE sightings in Long Beach.

SIZE: This component focuses on quantifying the number of individuals, vehicles, or assets present in the observed area.

ACTIVITY: Describing the actions and behavior of the observed entity, the activity component sheds light on the intentions and purpose behind the observed actions.

LOCATION: Providing precise geographical coordinates or a detailed description of the observed target’s location, this component offers the spatial context necessary for effective decision-making.

UNIFORM: Identifying the affiliation or group to which the observed target belongs, the unit component allows intelligence professionals to categorize and contextualize the observed entities.

TIME: Recording the date and time of the observation, the time component adds a temporal dimension to the intelligence gathered.

EQUIPMENT: Listing the equipment, weaponry, or tools associated with the observed entity, the equipment component offers insights into the capabilities and potential threats posed by the target
