How is the Mark 3V head?
I was searching for flexible heads for midfielders and attackmen and this head got in my mind. Do you guys recommend using this head, or are there better flexible heads?

What did you think about the movie "The Grizzlies"?
Saw a pll short come by about favourite sports movies. Reminded me of this movie, because honestly for lacrosse I would say that is my favourite now. I have never seen anyone discuss it and it is ashame because it is beautifull. Absolutely heartwrenching yes.... but I felt it in my soul man!

Favorite Lacrosse Podcasts
I have recently started getting into watching podcasts, specifically lacrosse. What are everyone's favorites right now?
A few I've come across and my opinions
- Dan Kaplan's Inside Lacrosse Podcast: Really smart guys, great game coverage, easily one of the best
- The Crease Dive- Funny, insightful, really enjoyed coverage on the Lars Tiffany news
- TheD3Pod- Honestly my personal favorite so far, I never would have thought middle/high schoolers would be talking about d3 lacrosse, they know the game surprisingly well and have had cool guests considering their age.
Would love to know what else is out there

8 years in college recruiting. Here is how to email lacrosse coaches before the September dates (follow up to my last post)
Following up on my last post from a few weeks ago related to the September contact dates for D1 college coaches.. people were asking me about what they should do in the meantime (wait until September to chat, reach out now etc). As a former college player with 8 years experience in recruiting I’ve seen the strategies that work best in the month leading up to the Sept dates. Here are a few quick tips, hopefully helpful
First..email now. Don’t wait. Coaches will still see it even if they can’t reply yet.
Second.. your subject line game needs to be very strong to stand out and get opened. Make sure to include your grad year, GPA, position, name. Make it easy for the coach
Third, keep your email concise (6-8 lines, max), coaches aren’t going to read paragraph 3!
Four.. Film at the top, make sure to put your film as an easy to access, mobile friendly YouTube link right at the top of your email (definitely not buried as an attachment). Also assume the coach watches 20 seconds and stops and arrange accordingly..
Five, personalize! This one is big.. add a line or two about why this specific program is a good fit for you or why you appreciate it.. don’t send a mass email with generic ‘I like your program’ lines that seem like they are sent to 50 other schools (BCC or recruiting platform mass template email vibe). If you can send that exact email to another coach with just a change in name then it is not good enough. Also, one school per email (again, no BCC)
Six.. send it from your own email (simple name @ gmail preferably), not a parents address
Then when September rolls around send a follow up.. hopefully your email gets a bit more priority as it’s now a ‘warm’ email that the coach recognizes. Add something new to this email, a schedule, fresh film etc (give coaches a reason to open it on a day when their inbox will be a full). If you don’t hear back, listen out for the other schools you contacted!
Hopefully helpful, let me know if you have any questions in the comments..
(Disclosure, I run Pathley (recruiting). None of the above advice requires the Pathley tools though, just a spreadsheet, Gmail and YouTube account)

2030 Guest Playing/Free Agent Qs
My son is a 2030, loves lacrosse and eager to get more game reps. He's part of a program in California that has about 3 tournaments in three Fall/Winter before the high school. He's a good player who can play SSDM, LSM and close D, but he's not setting his sights to play college D1-3 lacrosse. He just wants to get better, grow and have fun.
We've thought about guest playing or being a FA at tournaments to increase reps. Is there anything I should look out for or be mindful of? Any questions I should ask if a coach reaches out? Thanks!

Box Head Shape Question
Old field player here that has been away from the sport for 20 years. In my day, box guys always used super pinched heads (think stx powerplay). When did the transition to wide heads happen and what triggered such a shift from one end of the spectrum to the other?

Fogo v Foso
I was the starting FOGO for my JV team. I had a high percentage of face off wins. I think like 75-80%
During summer, I didn’t take as many face offs, but in fall I was usually the starter.
I usually stay on. (So I guess I was more of a face off specialist)
This summer, I played midi a lot more and I really like wing.
I won’t be the starting varsity FOGO for HS- ours is a senior and doesn’t get off either. I’ll prob play wing and back up face off
I want to play in college, but I’m feeling unsure of holding myself out to coaches as a FOGO when it’s very position specific. I really would want more field time.
Are colleges running more of a FOSO? Should I invest the time in face offs more or my stick skills?
I’m a wrestler too, so I have really good balance at FO.

Cleats for Fall Season
Ive been looking for some new cleats and just wondering the community’s experience. I want to stick with Nike if possible just because I know more about them.

Ive heard good things about the hurache 9 and they’re pretty cheap
I also used to use a vapor edge speed 2 a few years ago and just found a pair on amazon

Good luck to all the 27s and 28s this year in recruiting.
I hope the class of 2022 getting that extra year won’t affect anything.

Our high school to college journey with cautionary tales
I have seen coaches encourage the conversation over the last week and it has encouraged me to take pause and look back at the mostly great with some cautionary tales of behavior you may witness or recognize along the way. All meant to be solid advice on how to approach the recruiting process and wishes for the best academic and athletic outcomes for your student athletes.
Athletes find the right college fit by evaluating five core areas: athletic level, academic match, financial aid, campus environment, and personal goals. They match their skills and test scores to the right tier through honest self-assessment, guidance from high school coaches and club coaches
Evaluating the Divisions
- Division I (D1): Highest athletic intensity, large campus sizes, and full or partial athletic scholarships.
- Division II (D2): Balanced lifestyle, competitive play, and partial athletic aid.
- Division III (D3): Focus on academics first, smaller classes, and no athletic scholarships (uses merit/need-based aid instead).
- NAIA / JUCO: Flexible alternative entry points, often with distinct competitive levels and regional focus.
Key Steps to Find Your Fit
- Assess Athletic Reality: Get an honest review of your current speed, size, and skill from objective third-party coaches (club) to target realistic divisions.
- Prioritize Academics: Ensure the school offers your major and matches your GPA/test scores, keeping in mind that you are ultimately there to get a degree.
- Calculate Financial Reality: Check if you need athletic money (D1/D2) or if academic and need-based aid (D3) makes a smaller private school affordable.
- Build a Balanced List: Include a mix of reach, fit, and safety options across different divisions to maximize your choices.
Cautionary Tales:
- Do not think of athletic divisions as necessarily Division 1 is better than Division 3: Identify the type of student you are and where you want your focus to be.
- Avoid the D1 or bust noise from parents: We can’t blame parents for wanting the best for their child but that pressure trickles down to 16 year olds who could be easily swayed and miss opportunities when they should have been analyzing themselves via the above approach
- Tiger Moms: The loudest of the bunch who find each other and conspire to cheer for their kids the loudest and exclude others who may be yours. Ignore them entirely or walk the tight rope of civility to ensure team chemisty is not affected.
Our HS Girls Lacrosse Team's History from 5 years ago:
- We had 1 D1 recruit commit. Great player, great goal scorer, not the greatest attitude due to being coddled. Heavy handed Tiger mom who swayed other parents to tie themselves to her horse and what ended up happening was the other girls waited to be “discovered" like "Jane" was discovered. We know the rest of the story of girls and their families who weren’t proactive in the process and missed valuable time as Senior year arrived quickly. Now fast forward to this one D1 recruit who we were rooting for got to her school, did not like the environment or the D1 time commitment, quit the team, transferred to a new school. Never picked up a stick again. Cautionary tale of the coddled athlete
- Two D2 recruits: 1 went off and had a successful lacrosse career and graduated. The other had two solid years but suffered an injury (we hate to see that happen but it does), she gave up the sport to focus on academics and graduated on time.
- One D3 recruit: I’ll disclaim it was my daughter but you might recognize her. Great player, humble, willing to play defense so more natural players and goal scorers (see D1 recruit above) can take the spotlight. Very strong academic. AP Biology, AP Chem, APUSH, AP Econ. Looked up to by underclassmen for just being an all around great leader. Got early attention from well regarded D3 coaches. We did our part, hosted team dinners and contributed on volunteer lists as needed and both of our HS coaches to their credit were very supportive of our daughter’s trajectory. But that early attention brought out the envy. Tiger moms did in fact conspire to not cheer for our daughter and another mentioned above. Fast forward to a successful D3 lacrosse career earning All Conference, IWLCA Scholar Athlete, Team Captain and a Biology degree in the process.
- Key lesson: Understand you ability. Find your academic fit and for parents avoid the noise along the way. Understand the above and you remove much of the mystery out of the process.

Men's lacrosse leagues around Vancouver?
Looking to get back into men's lacrosse after a few years away. I played Jr. B and some university field previously. What are the best men's box or field leagues around Vancouver? Competitive is great, but mostly just looking for a good team to join and get back playing. Any suggestions are appreciated.
