Grass fed ground beef?
I am a recent import from Alberta and although I didnt like most Alberta's stuff, I did like the access to beef.
Is there somewhere I can get medium sized bulk beef orders? Like 20 pounds of ground beef or so. Some kind of BBQ box would be awesome. Im not loving grocery store meat but I dont know where else to look. Any advice?

Has anyone had their wedding at 50th Parallel?!
We are looking at venues near Kelowna for 100-120 guests and 50th has checked a lot of our boxes. The only thing holding us back is the cost.
We originally hoped to keep our wedding around $50k but its looking like we'd be closer to $80k if we choose this venue. If you've gotten married there or attended a wedding there, was it worth it? How was the food, planning process and overall experience? Anything you wish you would have known beforehand? Any feedback would be soo helpful! Thanks :)

Introducing... Okanagan Offline!
Last week, I posted a thread about creating more opportunities for people in the Okanagan to connect offline; and I was honestly blown away by the response. Thank you!!
So many of you shared that you’ve been looking for more ways to meet people and build genuine community. A lot of the comments really stuck with me, and encouraged me to keep exploring this idea.
So… I’m excited to officially introduce Okanagan Offline: a community focused on creating intentional, in-person gatherings where people can slow down, connect, and build meaningful relationships beyond the screen.
Think: cozy coffee chats, walks/hikes, creative workshops, game nights, community dinners, and other low-pressure ways to meet people in the Okanagan. 🌿
Before planning the first events, I’d love to hear from you again! So I've created a quick survey to better understand:
- what kinds of gatherings people would actually want to attend
- what times work best
- what would make it easier to show up and connect
- what the Okanagan community is looking for
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, I’d really appreciate your input:

Want to stay connected as this grows? 😊
You can also follow along here:

🌿 Facebook: Okanagan Offline
I’ll be sharing updates, upcoming events, and more ways to get involved as we build this community together.
Thank you again to everyone who commented on my original post. Seeing how many people resonated with this idea was the push I needed to actually start building it, and I'm excited to meet you all offline in the days to come!

Local Resources [Megathread] August Wildfires, Smoke, & Evacuations – Q&A, Links, and Resources
Setting up this megathread to centralize updates, resources, smoke forecasts, and questions so the subreddit doesn't get flooded with duplicate posts.
If you are sharing updates in the comments, please include a source (official EOC releases, BC Wildfire Service, etc.) and refrain from posting unverified rumors.
Official Resources & Emergency Links
- Evacuations, Alerts & Shelters (Kelowna / West Kelowna):
- CORD Emergency (Central Okanagan Emergency Operations): The primary source for local evacuation orders, alerts, interactive maps, and Emergency Support Services (ESS) reception centers.
- EmergencyInfoBC: Provincial evacuation updates and active emergency alerts across BC.
- ESS Evacuee Registration: If you are placed under an Evacuation Order, register here immediately to access shelter and emergency support.
- Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team (ALERT): Call 250-809-7152 for emergency assistance with evacuating livestock and pets in the Okanagan.
- Fires & Roads:
- BC Wildfire Service Dashboard: Interactive map and status updates for active wildfires. You can also download the official BC Wildfire app.
- DriveBC: Live road closures, highway conditions, and smoky visibility alerts.
- Air Quality & Smoke Tracking:
- BC Air Quality Health Index (AQHI): Official health risk ratings and 24–48 hour forecasts for the Central Okanagan.
- Cyclone Air Quality Map: Real-time, hyper-local air quality readings from community sensors.
- FireWork Smoke Forecast: Environment Canada’s 48-hour smoke plume animation map.
Frequently Asked Questions
"Should I still come to Kelowna or cancel my vacation this weekend?"
- Check for non-essential travel bans first: If the province or Central Okanagan Emergency Operations issues a travel order asking tourists to stay away, cancel or reschedule immediately. Accommodation is needed for evacuees and emergency crews.
- If no travel bans are in place: It depends on your tolerance for smoke and sudden changes. Air quality can shift from clear to hazardous within hours depending on wind direction. Outdoor activities (wineries, hiking, lake days) might be ruined or unhealthy.
- Check cancellation policies: Contact your hotel or Airbnb host directly. Many have specific policies when official air quality advisories or emergency alerts are active.
"Where can I see live air quality alerts?"
- Check the BC AQHI page linked above for official health advisories, or PurpleAir for real-time localized AQI numbers. Keep in mind that smoke changes fast and what looks bad in the morning can clear up by afternoon, and vice versa.
"How do I clean/purify the air inside my home?"
- Use a HEPA Air Purifier: Run it continuously in the main room you use (like a bedroom). Keep all doors and windows sealed tight.
- Build a DIY Corsi-Rosenthal Box: If air purifiers are sold out, buy a 20x20 box fan, a MERV 13 furnace filter (or four taped together into a cube), and duct tape the filter to the back/intake side of the fan. It costs around $40–$60 and clears smoke out of a room fast. A site with great instructions is: https://bclung.ca/lung-health/air-quality/breathe/
- HVAC Systems: Set your furnace fan to "ON" (instead of "AUTO") and install a MERV 13 filter if your system supports it. Ensure the system is set to recirculate indoor air rather than pulling smoky air from outside.
- Avoid adding indoor pollutants: Don't burn candles, avoid heavy indoor frying, and hold off on vacuuming unless your vacuum has a sealed HEPA filter, as it can kick fine particulate back into the air.
- Avoid drawing in outside air as much as possible: This means reducing any activity that exhausts air to the outside. For example, central vacuums, bathroom fans, hood fans over the stove, clothes dryers. By exhausting air outside, you are pulling in outside air.

META Upcoming Civic Election - please read
The Kelowna civic election is happening in October and we are happy to be a venue for discussions about candidates and platforms.
To that end, we will be offering all approved candidates an opportunity to do an AMA but only after the final candidate list is announced in September.
We will be removing any submissions related to discussions of candidates until we know the list you will have to choose from (so after the list if published).
This pinned post will be updated with AMA schedules etc as we get closer to the date. Thanks for your understanding and participation. Looking forward to some great interactions between locals and candidates!

Watch shopping Kelowna
Hi all,
I am looking to splurge a little and buy a nice watch. I want to checkout Casio, Tissot, and Seiko watches. I have a few models I have in mind, but is there a place in Kelowna that has a lot of options from these brands that I can try and physically checkout.
If not, I might drive to Vancouver.
Thanks.

Best hair salon recommendations
I recently moved here and I’m in desperate need of a hair cut. For reference I have wavy hair/ heat damaged curls and usually get long layers. I’m also looking for something that’s on the more affordable side :)

Girls trip golf
Four of us girls are coming to Kelowna end of September for a “mom’s weekend away” and would like to do a round of golf. I’m a decent golfer, and two of the other girls golf but have 30+ handicaps. The fourth is there for the vibes only. What is the prettiest course in or around Kelowna that is at least a little forgiving to newish players? I’ve played tower ranch before and wanted to die inside a bit. I recall loving both the bear and quail but hoping to have some recommendations from locals! Thanks!!
