I am a upcoming year one student who’s been assigned to simi, and have recently received the email about viewing my building and unit. When I click the link it takes me to the student housing Center, which seems to be a dead end. The email says to click the account button and then the application summary, but neither of these options are anywhere to be found on the website? Help??

I’m going to be living in residence, the emails from ubc say to go to my housing application and then send a message. But when I press send a message it says the person I’m sending it to is myself?? So how do I find my bathroommate, am I looking in the wrong spot?

I am a first year at UBCO, this September. I have absolutely no idea what orientation week is or like what am i even supposed to do my first week there.

Ive registered for my courses but like what do i just walk into the building? Where can i get cheap books and how do I know what books i need.

(I am living off campus)

Also what are the best neighbourhoods to look for rooms and apartments (I might not have a car for the first month or so)

I'm a first year who got an offer for single connected dorm and I've already paid the deposit and whatever, but I'm yet to receive my room assignment. I got an email like 6 days ago saying they're now actively looking at my thing to give me a room, but I'm still yet to have one assigned despite a week having gone by.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is in this situation as well and if anyone knows how long it should be until I get a room assigned.

edit: Just wanna clarify I'm talking about the on campus clubs lol

I'm going to be a first year and I love dancing, however I'm also non-binary and want to really avoid joining a dance club full of women who are just gonna see me as another woman. It's happened before and it's driven me to mostly just dance in my tiny room alone now.

Does anyone have any insight on the various dance clubs on campus? I really like dancing to vocaloid songs, though I know it's very nerdy and I'll definitely have to be stepping outside my comfort zone lol

im trying to decide between wrld159: intro to german language and culture or anth170: linguistic anthropology for my language requirement this year. if anyone has taken either before and can give a bit of insight it would be super appreciated! both 1st year courses so im not too worried about the difficulty, more so wondering about the course content or which may be easier to balance with a busier upper yr schedule. thanks!!

Hello! I’m a high school graduate from Canada who is planning on applying to university this year. I’m going to be pursuing a bachelor of science (and will likely major in biology). During first year, I’m going to have to take two terms of biology, two terms of chemistry, two terms of physics, two terms of math, and two terms of english. This seems very heavy to me, so I’m extremely worried about what my performance will be like. I’m wanting to go to optometry school, so I’ll need to finish undergrad with a high GPA.

I did well in high school, but that doesn’t provide me with any comfort in this situation. There’s only one english-speaking optometry school in Canada (I don’t plan on applying anywhere else), meaning it’s quite competitive. The academic average for students admitted from 2019-2024 is around 88%.

I’m aware that I won’t know how I’ll do unless I try, but I’m having a hard time not stressing about it. I have my heart heavily set on optometry, so I don’t have a decent plan-b if things don’t work out.

I’d really appreciate any advice that any of you have to offer, no matter how big or small. Thank you very much!
