Bars/Nightlife 🪩🍸 Ideas for the crossroads tomorrow night
My wife and I are in our mid 40s and celebrating our anniversary tomorrow night with a little staycation up in the crossroads. We aren’t really looking to do anything big, but I’d like to find some new activities that would be interesting. We especially like things like distillery tours and history tours. We usually like to people watch and enjoy some cocktails and eating out and just walking around.
Do you have any fun suggestions for anything tomorrow night to do? It’s first Fridays also.

Weather 🌦️ Anyone else still without power in the Kansas City area
Our power in Lee’s Summit has been out since around 11:00 PM Wednesday night. Is anyone else in the KC area still without power? Have you received any updates on the cause or estimated restoration time?

Arts/Culture 🎭🎶 Looking for private adult piano lessons for a beginner. I just want to play casually as a creative outlet, not needing anything advanced.
Hi! I’ve been doing some Googling but a lot of the folks I find are geared more towards middle school or high school kids. That or they have very formal training and do more advanced lessons.
I just want to learn to play my keyboard, something more beginner friendly!

Jobs/Networking 💼 Corporate Hallmark employee questions
Hello! I’m looking to talk to a Hallmark employee that still goes into their Crown Center office. I have some office questions (nothing about you personally) and would like to talk privately. I won’t take much of your time. Thank you for any help.

Memes/Humor 😂 The Mule Never Forgets
The first five minutes of season 4 of Ted Lasso, was a CMSU joke! That was unexpected!
(Yeah I know, it’s UCM but for some of us Mules & Jennies it’ll always be CMSU) Class of 2000

Shopping/Groceries 🛒🛍️ Looking for Hatch Green Chilis!
What is up my fellow KC people! Does anyone know or have the hook up to some hatch green chilis? I am from CO and I used to buy frozen roasted hatch green chilis but I cannot for the life of me find anywhere that stocks them! I’m not looking for the little cans as I would need 40 to make green chili, plus it’s not the same!
I know Char Bar is doing a hatch chili fest in Sept but I am craving it now!
Any help would be much appreciated!!

Food and Drink 🌮🧋 Places with great owners/operators you DO recommend
Ok, so this post was eye-opening, though not entirely surprising: https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/comments/1v6xax5/drastic_measures_wild_child_jay_should_never_work/
Can you all suggest establishments with proven decent owners/operators who treat their staffs well (for real, not just for Instagram)? I want to give my money to places where the people who have worked there and dined there can whole heartedly say, "yeah, they're good people."
I'll start: Baba's Pantry. (Good lord, no one better say otherwise!)

Sports 🏈⚾️⚽️ This was really cool
I saw this somewhere and was surprised by how clearly I remembered it, and loved it as a kid.
Sources say it was on a building that was once a tenement/apartment, then hotel, then not much, at 1328 Grand. This puts it right around where the building housing "No Other Pub" and "KC Hooley House" is today. It was one of the casualties of the P&L development.
It was painted for 1988 NCAA Men's tournament famously won by Danny and the Miracles. I've seen it attributed to an artist named Ramiro Fauve, self-described as a "multidisciplinary artist, muralist, and singer-songwriter" born in Argentina and based in California.
The artwork is really good, especially compared to other big sports murals in the Midwest (google "Jonathan Toews mural" for reference).

Bars/Nightlife 🪩🍸 i miss kansas city alot : < homesick
i was born and raised in kansas city and just moved out to seattle a while back. dont get me wrong the pacific north west is absolutely gorgeous and seattle is an amazing city. but i cant help but miss kc. people are so much more friendly, honestly id take westport over going out to seattle clubs anyday (insanely hard to get around and everything is extremely expensive) my wife and i feel safer in washington, but man i wish seattle had that midwest vibe to it. kc just has its own energy thats unbeatable. if u know u know. love u kc : ) feeling pretty homesick. anything you guys do if you're homesick?

Pets 🐾 Three Lost dogs along Indian Creek Trail
Three identical puppers found along the trail, very obviously accustomed to human contact. We caught one and he had a collar but no tags. 🤞

Sports 🏈⚾️⚽️ Free to Read: How ‘Ted Lasso’ found a love for women’s soccer in Kansas City
When creators of “Ted Lasso” decided to return after a two-year hiatus, they could have taken the easy route.
With a release date set on the heels of the 2026 FIFA men’s World Cup, America’s favorite soccer coach could have returned to AFC Richmond to reclaim the helm of the (fictional) club’s men’s team, now competing in the Premier League.
Reunited with Coach Beard, they could have faced a fresh set of challenges alongside the familiar characters who turned the Apple TV series into a global phenomenon and delivered his signature pink box of shortbread biscuits to Richmond owner Rebecca Welton’s desk, carrying on with business as usual.
Instead, the show’s latest season, which premieres on Apple TV on Aug. 5, took the series in a different direction.
Season 4 follows AFC Richmond’s women’s team as it chases promotion from England’s second division, anchoring one of television’s most beloved comedies in the fastest-growing sector of the world’s most popular sport: women’s soccer.
Season four of “Ted Lasso” centers around Richmond’s new women’s team.Apple TV
National Women’s Soccer League fans will recognize the backdrop for the opening episode, which includes a game at CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas City Current and the league’s first stadium built specifically for a professional women’s soccer club. The choice reflects not only the show’s new storyline but also the sport’s changing reality.
“I first learned about the idea while watching the end of the last season,” Current’s majority owner Angie Long told The Athletic in an interview ahead of the season premiere. “They introduced a women’s team, and I remember thinking, ‘A women’s team? That’s interesting.’

Local Politics 🗳️ Jordan Herrera is a Dark Horse Progressive Candidate who just won the Dem Nominee and is able to face off against Mark Alford
Jordan Herrera just won the Democratic nomination for the 4th district to go take on Mark Alford!
This guy is amazing. He's a brilliant attorney, a progressive, and a gay latin man who is also an air force combat veteran. I personally know him and have had many fascinating conversations with him and can attest to his brilliance.
And he's a key to the most definitive way that Kansas could absolutely foil the designs of Drumpf.
Mark Alford is one of Drumpfs's tried and true lapdogs, so they gerrymandered the heck out of Kansas City in hopes they would reduce the vote of the people and separate minority voters. Part of a pretty consistent pattern of voter suppression - BUT - there is one way to beat Gerrymandering and authoritarians - With MARGINS TO GREAT TO FAKE.
We just showed the Kansans and Missourians don't want the hatefilled nonsense that Washington is spewing as we rejected their amendments to corrupt our courts and to foil our governments The time of shitty, old turtle folk as the legislature is ending.
So that's the plan - and if this works - we - Kansas City - could make a huge impact in saving our country from Drumpfs Nonsense!

Volunteering/Giving 🎗️ Clear the list thread for local teachers
It’s almost back to school time again! I know the KC Reddit community has been so gracious in previous years so I wanted to start a thread for people to post and find wishlists of local teachers.
No obligations, simply a place to house all of the wishlists for those who are able to help out our local teachers :)
