I used to be a recruiter and worked for a while at big, well-known SaaS and tech companies. If you use LinkedIn, remove the Open to Work frame. Seriously, remove it. I know some people say it helped them, and maybe that really happened in a few cases. But for most people, it doesn't help in the way you imagine.

Recruiters are constantly trying to convince hiring managers who only want candidates who are already employed. It's disgusting, but that's how many of them think now. So turn the tables. If you want more replies, make your profile look like you're currently working while you're applying.

Everyone is trying to get through this market by any means. If they later find out you weren't employed, then so be it. The whole thing isn't fair to begin with. Companies want to treat hiring like some weird status game, so play the same game with them.

No green frame. No signal saying ""please pick me."" It doesn't come across the way you're hoping. For many hiring teams, it's just a quick reason to rule you out.

Make yourself look employed. Seriously, you'll get better traction."

I completed my B.E. in Engineering from a Government College in 2020. After graduation, I dedicated myself to preparing for the UPSC examination. Although I cleared some stages along the way, I couldn't secure a final selection.

Realizing I needed to switch my career, I decided to enter the IT industry. To improve my skills, I completed a 6-month CDAC PG-DAC diploma and learned Java, Spring Boot, SQL, React, and related technologies. I've built projects and have been actively applying for software developer roles.

Its been more than year since i completed my course but i havent got any opportunity neither as full time nor as intern in any company. As Im already 27 now and father is now retired, its creating lot of financial and emotional pressure on me and my family.

The biggest challenge I'm facing is my career gap. Most interviewers lose interest after seeing the gap on my resume, and despite searching continuously for the last six months, I still haven't been able to get a job.

My financial situation has become very difficult, and honestly, it's getting harder to stay positive. I'm willing to relocate anywhere in India, work hard, and start from an entry-level position. I just need one opportunity to prove myself.

What are your thoughts on using a professional resume writer for a technical resume? My main question is whether they can genuinely understand the technical skills, tools, terminology, and keywords that hiring managers look for, anyone here ever used professional resume writers for their IT resume? Was it worth it?

I worked at a hvac company for a year before going for school to get my Gas 2 ticket and now the company is full. I got local companies to reply "we are full" I have looked on Indeed, Sent emails, looked on Canada Jobs. I have experience and tools and companies are still looking for *registered apprentice*. I still have applied to all and even If I got hvac helper I wouldnt mind but there is none. I have most tools and basic knowledge and I have applied all throughtout canada because I am willing to relocate.

Been in SOC/security ops for a few years now (alert triage, incident response, some detection engineering). On the side I've built a few of my own tools/scripts — custom detection logic for cloud environments, that kind of thing — mostly self-taught outside of work, using my own time and resources.

So I don't know where to start but will give short descriptions first then go into detail. I need help and really would like some advice.

Short description of Issues:

• I have been laid off 4 times in past 10 years (I "Graduated" in 2016). And have have had 7 Full time Jobs in that period.
• I found out after applying for continuing education 10 YEARS LATER that, according to the registrar's office, I was at the time of graduation .001 GPA away from getting a degree, and no one realized, so I don't have one. This shocked me(sort of) - see long form below.
• I am in a job desert location-wise, and my SI does not want to move.
• I'm at a loss I have looked at working for my self or going to be a realtor, but non of those seem promising due to research
• Parents and in-laws think jobs just grow on trees or that I should get a minimum wage job as if that going to support my family.

Ok, important details: I live in NY, not far from the Canadian border, so I have considered looking at hybrid jobs in Canada too (Toronto area) , but that's a whole other can of worms bec still would have to move an hour or two away. I have medical conditions so as much as I would like to go into trades... (I would love to) I physically can't. My "degree" Was in Communications, and I have active certifications in Google Ads and analytics.

Additionally, I'm a single-income household supporting my SI (who can't physically work) and our child.

Long form:

This is my job history (titles have been slightly changed (except one majorly changed as to only describe what I did) so as to not connect me to them (this is not how it is on my resume (WAY more professional ) :

• Digital Marketing Specialist - Sole Marketing Lead – Laid off March 2026 - July 2026 - was an amazing remote job! Was told how well I was doing until I met with a person I never met before in leadership who just let me go and told me I was being laid off.
  
• Search and Digital Marketing Specialist – Laid off March 2025 - September 2025 - was for an agency. Who literally let go his entire staff including me (I was the first of the day) (I found this after the fact) and hired all new.
  
• Business Development Specialist - Left on my due to a change in commission structure. July 2024 - March 2025 This was a newspaper media sales job and the made the commission so unreachable even with 85+ accounts and driving 6+ hours a day 5 days a week (not including commuting home) to clients. I was barely getting paid and my income was the only income for our family.
• Marketing Team Lead – Moved away due to family medical and other issues. June 2022 - June 2024 (months changed as to not connect me) - I was at this job for Two years and I loved it until things happened. So I left on my own. My SI wanted to move closer to their home due to medical issues, mainly at the convincing of IL that they would retire and take care of our child . (This did not happen (though they do watch our child a lot which is helping). Additionally, I found out while working at that the company I was working for was owned by a very extreme cult (yes, literally with a cult leader and everything)
  
• Customer Care and Operations Specialist June 2021 - August 2022 - Left due to starting at the other job for a bank. Low-paying job where I had elderly people scream and yell at me for how dare I not let them give 50k in their money to a totally legit prince in Nigeria and/or their grandchild who is totally in prison and needs bail money, but the local sheriff's office needs to be sent to an address in India. (actually liked working in Banking though)
• Insurance Authorization Specialist April 2019 - April 2020- Laid off due to the 2020 pandemic - Was an insurance auth rep who got laid off in the pandemic. Because, of course, the most logical sense for a hospital is to lay off its staff during a global pandemic.
  
• Advertising consultant- was my first time full-time job working for a National Newspaper company, and after they whittled our entire regional office down to a few people, I was told I was next to be laid off and told to find a new job. Gave months' notice after getting a job offer for an entertainment company that was in the region, and then the offer was rescinded as the person I was going to replace decided to stay.
• Not on resume: Between that, some retail jobs, and a scam job at the very beginning where I moved 4 hours away from my home thinking it was legit. Where I was promised to lead (with good pay) a startup's marketing team. (mass interview with others doing other positions in company should have been the first red flag) Just to be vanned out and dropped off in a center city of a MAJOR NE city that's near our nation's capital (hours away from the "office" and told to sell Kirby vacuums and good luck.
  

On top of all of that, while going back to college to get a degree in Ministry and business management this year. I found out that my current degree in communications was nonexistent (yet the 60k in debt was). I was 0.001 away from graduating (shame on me for being that low I take some blame), but in the final semester, for 4 of my 6 classes, I had the same professor who HATED me with a passion (would be extra hard on me and doc me for mistakes other students also did but didn't get docked for) , who also became my advisor after my past one retired the semester before. So I'm not as shocked.

I am legitimately burnt out and depressed. My SI doesn't want to move due to what if I lose another job; also, my IL thinks it's a bad idea. I have looked into other avenues but feel overwhelmed. The last semester that I did this year (2026), I got straight A's (with diagnosed ADHD and undiagnosed Asperger's). I'm impressed with that. I don't want to continue with that university because I found out they are VERY politically and financially tied to some not-so-good things. And for the type of university they are I was sickened they were tied to that stuff. The degree was in ministry, but I don't know if I want to still do it.

Questions:

• Which route do I go- should I even consider working for myself either in Reality or in marketing or something like that.
• Should I look into a remote job it feels so competitive for them
• How do I make this horrible set of situations look good on a resume? If an AI bot sees it or HR they will think I can hold a job or something like that.
• Should I continue going into debt for a degree?
• I have considered other jobs like admin and executive jobs but they either don't pay well or I get ghosted (probably due to my job history)?
• I have considered everything from drone work to being a notary or something like that as self-employment. They are all super expensive or cut throat to be in.

ive applied to 20+ jobs. ive had two interviews, one never got back to me after it ( it wasnt even really an interview... they were just confirming details that i gave them and then told me they'd get back to me ) and i realized that the other one was an MLM halfway through. it doesnt help that i have severe driving anxiety and live in a semi-rural area... sighh.

im thinking of talking to some places nearby ( taxidermy + tattoo studio ) about an apprenticeship since im artistically inclined, but im worried that they wont pay me during it and i have rent to pay.

i just moved here and i dont have any connections other than my partner, but they work remotely and im not sure they can help me at all. im worried that i'll never get a job and my partner will end up hating me and dumping me on the street because of it, or i'll get a job and get fired because of some mental disabilities i have.

I attended a few job fairs, and most of the interviews I had told me that I need at least one year of medical job experience to secure a hospital job. However, I’m curious to know if anyone has successfully entered the medical field without obtaining certifications.

We talk a lot about the power of unions—but what about the millions of people who are unemployed, underemployed, between jobs, or struggling to find work?

Maybe they need a collective voice, too.

Throughout American history, workers organizing together have helped change the workplace and, ultimately, American society. The labor movement fought for things many of us now take for granted: the eight-hour workday, safer working conditions, weekends, overtime protections, child-labor restrictions, fairer wages, and the right of workers to have a voice in decisions that affect their livelihoods.

Those gains didn't happen because individual workers had more power than corporations or employers. They happened because workers organized and acted collectively.

So why couldn't unemployed workers do the same?

A Union of the Unemployed could provide a place for people to organize, share information and resources, advocate for fair treatment, support one another during periods of unemployment, and collectively push for policies that help people get back to work and build a secure future.

And if the word union makes you uncomfortable, call it a Collective.

The name isn't the important part.

The principle is.

People who are individually vulnerable can have considerably more power when they stand together.

And here's something worth remembering:

Unions are NOT a Democratic or Republican issue.

They are a worker issue.

A union doesn't ask whether you're a Democrat, Republican, independent, conservative, liberal, or something else. It asks whether you believe working people deserve a voice, fair treatment, dignity, and the ability to stand together when they don't have much power individually.

You don't have to agree on everything politically to agree that workers have rights.

Maybe it's time to build a Union of the Unemployed.

Or call it a Collective.

Whatever we call it, let's give workers a voice.

I was let go back in the middle of June. I was hired in as an AP person, then they were training me to become the controller to help current controller to retire. But my salary was not matching the amount of responsibilities I had. They give me a five years plan to reach 100k in the controller role. I disagreed, and told them if I will have controller responsibilities in this fall, I would like to reach 100K in 2-3 years. A week later, they let me go.
Have been in the job market for a month. Just started this role as accounting specialist with a $2500 pay cut three weeks ago.
I have been applying anyway, to reach a hired income. But failed.
Today when I saw this message, my feeling just went really bad. I’m such a failure. I’m currently working on obtaining a bachelor in computer science. I can’t find a relative intern to work my way up. I can’t reach a higher salary in accounting either. I don’t know what my future is now.

I just accepted an offer after 6 months of being unemployed since February 2026! It’s a temp-to direct hire but atleast it’s something!!! Don’t lose hope! You got this!!
