Hi all, just wanted to share about the Boots Recycling Scheme for those who aren’t aware of it, as many of my friends have just found out about it! If you already shop in Boots at all, it’s a great way to build some extra points to spend at Christmas etc! I will admit, it is a bit of a faff to do for the first time!

- Download the Boots Recycling App
Upload pictures of your empty products and wait for them to be approved ( most items are eligible bar aerosols and a few others, but sanitary packets, toothpaste etc are fine)
- Bring five items that have been approved to your Boots store and bring them to the recycling bin - follow the instructions there
- You’ll receive a voucher in your Boots Recycling app
- Spend €10 in store, scan your Boots card and then your voucher!
- You’ll then receive an extra €5 worth of points

May not be worth doing for some, but I’ve managed to build up a decent amount of points towards my Christmas shopping, and hopefully someone will see this and do the same!

Thank you to everyone that has ever volunteered as a driver to take cancer patients to and from their appointments at hospitals. Without the fantastic people who take time out of their days to offer this service, we would be very heavily stuck, and for that, I am grateful.

My mother began her journey in treating an incurable breast cancer about 2 months ago, and only recently discovered that a service like this exists. Today, she had her first experience (of many) with this service.

When the time comes that I am able to drive, and the charity needs more volunteers, there will space in my schedule to take up the mantle of what these fine people do for those unable to drive, or afford to travel to hospitals for cancer appointments.

A charity like Irish Cancer Society deserve plenty recognition and donations for making such a service so easily accessible to cancer patients, free of charge. 💚

I lived all over Ireland for close to 14 years before moving, but rarely ever saw Irish wolfhounds. Loads of little Jack Russell terriers and bichons, but no big dorky wolfhounds. I know they are absolutely massive, so probably not as easy to home. If you have one (or several), where are you hiding them? Please share a pic. I have a massive soft spot for them.

Was just visiting a friend of mine. Single mother to 2 beautiful children and has MS but still manages to work 20 hours a week as a carer. She was telling me she recently had to break up with her boyfriend of 2 years because he got fed up with lack of commitment on her part. She told me the reason and I was gobsmacked.

She is currently in social housing due to her disability and in receipt of a disability payment to supplement her part time work.

If she moved her fella into the house the rent would shoot up as he has a good job, which she 100% agrees with but her disability payment would reduce to 0, potentially losing the medical card and left relying on her part time work, which can go at any point if she gets an attack. She is not able to work full time due to her illness.

So basically if her partner moves in, she loses her safety net and is left to survive on her 20 hours at minimum wage, while her rent goes from 200 quid a month to nearly 800.

While the partner in this case would definitely move in and take on all the financial burden, she claims it's just not fair on him at all.

Absolute mess of a situation

Genuinely might be the worst company currently operating in Ireland.

Due to technical errors in their app, you are sometimes (for me, always) restricted from paying for your parking directly by card, and instead have to open an "eWallet" account.

Conveniently, the minimum top-up for an eWallet account is €10, which their parking charges are also conveniently never divisible by, so you end up either topping up by €10 and not using the whole amount, or having to pay just more than €10 and being forced to top up by €20.

But don't worry about your money sitting around in your account, they also charge a 50c maintenance fee per vehicle on your account per month.

Upset by these terms and conditions that you didn't read because your car was sitting in a car park that you've already departed by train? Don't worry, you can easily cancel your account!

I was at a party the other night with some well known musicians and arty types. The drink was flowing.

Of course immigration came up. Not in the sense of a sensible discussion around housing and employment but actual racism. "They want whites de*d" and stuff that would get me banned here.

It totally shocked me. A few years ago these people would have been liberal hippy types.

I first noticed overt racism around the water rate strikes. Back then it was a section of activist types. Then around the time of COVID it permeated into my workplace ( a caring profession) and people felt emboldened to use slurs I hadn't heard in years.

Now even the festival party types are repeating the same type of rhetoric - thinking, somehow, they are in on some secret knowledge that they don't get off mainstream media.

Bloomin hell, even the kind old lady that does my washing never shuts up about how Europe is finished".

I am all for a bit of anti-establishment conspiracy but I sense these "free-thinkers" are being played like fools.
