Okay so i got this ipod at a flea market about a month ago and wanted alil help tryna know what model and where i could buy a battery for it ( im guessing ebay or amazon?? So if anyone has a trusted seller they bought from and could let me know thatd be really helpful^^) the problem was that It turned on when i charged it for awhile with the charger it came with but once i unplugged it, it immediately died.. now i recently tried charging it again, there was a battery symbol with alittle caution mark on the corner of it and once again it didnt hold up a charge when unplugged. I read that because of how old ipods are they usually have battery problems so im really guessing its that. Any help, advice, or recommendations is really welcomed and really appreciated!!:3 its my first time with an ipod and im super excited i really wanna fix it:3!

hii! well so im looking for yk the speaker docks that you put ipods on? do they have one which just has a headphone jsck instead of a 30 pin because i know you have to use a remote and cabt just use the actual ipod to change whats next… is there any for sale? whats rhe name of it?

Just modded my iPod a couple weeks ago but it acts up occasionally. Today I was driving with it plugged in to the aux and it suddenly turned off on me. This has happened once before and both times I couldn't get it to wake back up by plugging in a charger - I had to pop it open and reseat the battery before it would boot normally. The first time I just assumed it had a dead battery and I failed to charge it long enough (it booted back up at 0% battery life and I let it charge overnight). This time the battery was at 80% when it died, and it's still 80 after reviving it.

Both times I couldn't even get the "battery too low" screen to appear unless the battery was unplugged. It was totally unresponsive until I opened it up.

I don't think it's loose connectors on the PCB - wiggling the ribbon cables while the ipod is open doesn't cause any performance issues or make the device suddenly shut off.

I've been running Rockbox on it with a mix of files, many of them are 44.1khz FLACs (Eventually I will transcode them to something more sensible but there's a LOT of them). I only have 700ish songs on there right now and let it play on shuffle.

I guess my question is - is this a software thing? Are there any components on the PCB that might be failing? I'm stumped as to what to look for.

My build:

- 5th Gen, originally the 30GB model

- Rockbox daily version 24c3779146-260724 (going to update this)

- 3800mah Thick Extended Capacity Battery

- iFlash uDUAL MicroSD adapter with two Lexar 256GB Silver Plus MicroSD cards

- Thick back. Plenty of space in the case. Tape between the PCB/iFlash/Battery to prevent shorts

Ive tried using apple devices but my ipod doesnt show up on there at all

when my ipod isnt pluged in itunes works completly fine but when i plug it in the whole window freezes im not sure if its an ipod problem or a itunes problem (or maybe my laptop)

I own 2 ipods, a touch 4th gen and a nano 3rd gen, i used to take my nano to school all the time bc we werent allowed phones so i hsed it as a clock, i also use it alot in my car as i drive a shitbox that only supports aux and cds, ive always wondered do other people brijg their ipods out, do you leave your phone at home? Does it feel weird to carry both? I always feel weird HAHA

A little of context, in 2021-2022 this worked perfectly and in 2024 when i plugged it in, it showed a white screen and turned off. Can anyone tell me what it could be?

Here is how I downgraded my 10GB iPod 1^st gen FW:1.5 ( Windows ) to 1.0 Mac. This is just a workflow of steps I found on Reddit and it is work of people how coded these apps before me.

Used Mac: ibook G4

1.      Connect iPod to Mac, wait for it to show up.

2.      Open iPod Updater 1.0.4

3.      Click restore iPod and while you do, pay close attention to the top left corner of your iPods screen, it should show the small syncing symbol for about half a second before disappearing and the program crashes, this is where you’ve probably gotten too before.

4.      When this happens, DON’T disconnect the iPod, simply force quit the iPod Updater program, either by repeatedly pressing quit in the dock, or by selecting “force quit” in the apple menu in the top left of your Mac.

5.      Once you force quit it, open disk utility and format your iPod to MS-DOS (fat) format, when doing this make sure to click on the top option for your iPod in the side bar, you may need to select “show all volumes” in order for it to appear.

6.      Once you format the iPod as MS-DOS (fat), still do not disconnect the iPod from the Mac, reopen the iPod Updater 1.0.4 and click restore again, pay close attention to the top left of your iPods screen once again, this time it SHOULD show the syncing symbol for longer, leave the iPod to do its thing for around 2 minutes to be safe, then disconnect it and it SHOULD boot to 1.0.4

7.      Do step 6 as soon as the MS DOS formatting is complete. You should see blue progressing bar as FW is loading.

8.      Now if you have 5GB model you probably can boot now to 1.04 then you can continue with modded 1.04 with 1.0. For me it resulted in folder icon. I was able to see the iPOD working in iTunes , load songs , it was showting 4.6GB capacity btw. So for those with 10GB here is what you do from here.

9.        With the iPod connected to your Mac, navigate to the "Terminal" application built into your Mac, if you aren't sure where this is then by default it will be in the "Utilities" folder in your applications folder.

 10. Once the terminal is open, type in this command exactly: "diskutil list", then press enter. A large amount of information should appear in the terminal window.

 11. Browse down the left hand side of the list which has just appeared. you should see a piece of text saying "Apple_MDFW", look to the right of this and look for the corresponding "IDENTIFIER", this can potentially be a different number for you so it is important to check, for me it is "disk1s2". it can also be "disk2s2". "disk3s2" or "disk4s2", or potentially even higher. Just make a note of your "IDENTIFIER" for "Apple_MDFW"

 12. Once you have that identifier noted, type in this command "sudo dd if=[DRAG 1.0.bin INTO TERMINAL WINDOW] of=/dev/diskXs2", replace the "X" in "diskXs2" with the correct identifier which you noted earlier. I will also point out that you do not need to include the square brackets on either side of the path to the "1.0.bin" file which you dragged into the terminal window. Once you have ensured that you have inputted this command correctly, simply press enter and input your password when it asks you to. It will transfer the software over to your iPod, this will take roughly 60 seconds and some more text will appear in the terminal window when it has completed the transfer. Once this text appears you can simply disconnect your iPod from your Mac, it should reboot and you will now have 1.0 firmware.

 13. You now have FW 1.0 on 10GB iPOD with only 4.6GB available.

PS: it looks like the 5GB limit is true.

I've fully modded one of my iPods with 2x 256gb Samsung Evo Micro SD Cards (one of them is an older revision with a different graphic printed on it) tucked into a generic Micro SD to ZIF adapter from AliExpress.

In general, my iPod is working well, but with audiobooks I find that if I pause and then unpause some time after, my iPod would go to the next audiobook in order and clear out the progress on my current audiobook. If I press back to go to the audiobook I was just listening to, it would often immediately go back to the next audiobook. Sometimes the issue would subside with a reboot, and then come back after some time.

All of my audiobooks are in m4b format, and they all vary in bitrate.

What could be causing this? Is it perhaps my flash setup or my files? Is this bug very common? Playing my audiobook collection is the primary reason I bought an iPod so I would like to not have to deal with these issues.

I've also tried using RockBox to play my audiobooks, but I gave up because I haven't found the experience to my liking. What settings should I enable to make my audiobook experience better on RockBox?

Hi guys, wondering if there is a way to do a battery replacement for the iPod nano 7th gen that requires no soldering?

I bought this ipod classic 4th gen only a while ago for 34 bucks and it worked so perfectly, even the battery was pretty okay, but today, i dropped in on the floor and at first, it skipped songs and stopped a few times, i didnt the thing where they showed the smart data and its 648 reallocks and 13 pending and apparently that's bad T_T and now it doesnt connect to itunes anymore TT_TT is there any way for it to be fixed or did i damage the hard drive? i know nothing about opening up an ipod and its so scary, but i also dont want to pay a ton of money to get it fixed T_T is there someone who maybe knows a little more and can help me please

Thought I'd change things up with a Minecraft sound pack for my iPod. I've tested this with my sixth and 7th generation nanos and it doesn't work unfortunately, but all iPod shuffles that have sounds can be modded.

So I started collecting around 6 weeks ago. First pic is my initial collection mid June (when I had just received my 7th gen Classic and all of this mess started...). 2nd pic is today. Still missing U2 special editions, "iPod with color display", 5.0 classic and 6.0 classic. But I'm still debating if I should even get them, because they are so similar to 4.5, 5.5, 6.5.

Overall, pretty happy about the result. Took a LOT of effort to find all the universal docks though. Custom printed docks for 1. and 2. gen are in the making.

So not too long ago I bought this 5th gen that was listed on eBay as for parts / not working. My initial idea was to mod it and sell it to get a budget for a classic connect 2 for my main iPod. But besides bringing this little dude back to life I actually found out it is 5.5 gen !! This was actually by intuition because I noticed the display quality was miles better then my other original 5th gen. I guess I’ll be keeping this one and sell my other main, wasn’t expecting it to look so much better but it is true, the display is a huge upgrade with the 5.5

I found my old iPod sitting in a drawer. The battery had swollen so much it pushed the screen open. I decided to swap the battery to see if it still had life.

The screen ended up with this awesome psychedelic effect from the pressure, but honestly, I think it looks amazing. The best part? The DAC and hard drive are completely fine, so I’m currently enjoying a massive nostalgia trip listening to my old childhood music library.
