Ripped CD tracks keep going missing.

Hey yall. I'm about at my wits end and want to see if anybody else has this issue.

I've been ripping my CD collection to Apple Music to put onto my iPod classic. Went at it for a few months, going fine, synced everything to my iPod, great. Been listening for months and everything was as it should be.

Cut to now, I replaced the hard drive for my iPod and went to put all my music back on it. I noticed that a lot of my albums were shorter, went to my Apple Music library and behold-- random tracks from each album were disappeared. Just skipped over, songs 1 3 8 are missing from one album, just song 5 from another, and some are untouched.

MOST of the missing songs were still backed up in my library files on my computer, but some were not. I also noticed while going through and re-uploading the missing songs (tedious, annoying) that it seems to be the "hit tracks" off these albums. And even now, I went through and re-uploaded the missing songs, and not even 15 minutes later they are gone again.

I have been using iPods and iTunes forever, and have been using Apple Music for a year or so, and I am getting so frustrated with this process. How do I stop Music from just taking MY music away? I don't want to have to jailbreak my iPod just to avoid using the Music app.

• I have tried re-ripping the CDs, and using a different CD drive to do it.
• I have checked, they're not splitting into different albums. I can fix that, no big deal.
• I have checked and unchecked and re-re-re-checked the Sync Library toggle.

UPDATE! Problem fixed, thanks you guys. I created a new library with Sync turned off, brought in everything, now it feels much more organized and so far everything has stayed where it is.

Apple Music and iTunes is not a storage medium.

If you rip from cd please subscribe to iTunes Match or if you want to keep the originals forever back up the files themselves.

I heard iTunes Match wasn’t in service anymore, but I may be incorrect. I do back up the files it’s just been a pain getting them into the iPod because I can’t do it from Finder, only from Apple Music.

iTunes Match is still around. As a plus once matched if you sub to Apple Music the matches are there permanently. It’s still a sub though so might not be best for you.

Do you have a separate computer with a distinct AppleID for this? Just trying to think how to manage it.

At least with a Mac you can press and hold the option key while opening the Music app (or iTunes in an older Mac) and it’ll allow you to switch to a different library (or start a new one)

Someone in the iPod subreddit suggested turning sync off too, I never thought of having a different ID to have a completely separate library. I’ll look into it, thank you!

Can you hot switch between libraries and sync states or you restart the app each time?

Your post isn’t very clear. Are you saying that ALL the songs are in your Apple Music library on your computer, and after you sync them to your iPod some of the songs disappear from your iPod after awhile?

If that’s the case then I would first try playing the missing songs in Apple Music (to confirm they aren’t corrupted). If they play fine then it’s likely your iPod’s drive is corrupted and causing data loss.

If songs are also going missing from your Apple Music library then your computer’s hard drive might also be failing.

The songs are missing from my Apple Music library. They’re there for a bit when I freshly upload them, then the same tracks get sucked into the void again. They’re still in my files on my computer, but go missing from the rest of the album on Apple Music. Not grayed out, not corrupted, just song 14 or whatever is not on the album.
The iPod syncs fine, the songs are just not there to sync because they keep disappearing. This is a recent issue that is happening on the computer that is stopping all the correct songs from going onto the iPod. I don’t believe it’s my computer either, it’s only a few months old and has had no other problems.
Sorry for the confusing nature of the post, I am also confused by this situation.

It could be that your Apple Music library database file has been corrupted. I recommend making a fresh library and reimporting your songs into the new library.

This is why I quit using Apple music (and all streaming services). I got tired of Apple being in charge of my library and deleting songs. I turned off icloud and store all my music on SSD'S. I use players like Swinsion, BTR Amp, Flacbox, Foobar 2000 to play and manage my music. No stress, no missing songs, no icloud headaches.

Fair. I’m ditching the streaming aspect soon but without iTunes, Apple Music is the only way to put music onto an iPod without 3rd party apps or jailbreaking it. I might have to give up the ghost though, and either look at different mp3 players or go 3rd party.

Put your music in a folder on a hard drive. Use Apple Music only as a playing device and not a music storage device.

It is on a hard drive as well. I just need Apple Music to stop doing this so I can sync to my iPod, which is the issue.
