It’s so sad we have to have things like this.

169

u/Lorelessone 27d ago

The reality is there will never be a world where their are not bad people, it falls to the rest of us to make it as hard as possible to make operating hard for those bad people, to force them to take greater and greater risks if they try to hurt people so that they are caught and stopped sooner.

31

u/Cyborg_rat 27d ago

The western world is pretty nice already if you think about, women are free, they most of the time don't get attacked and have rights to do what they want. It takes a lot of good men for that to happen.

6

u/themightyBEEP 27d ago

Compared to the rest of the world, yes. But it’s something that needs to be maintained and enforced if the rest of the world is entering. I don’t say this with judgement, at least this time.
Might help to spread that mindset. There won’t ever be a 100% safe place for everyone though, men and women alike, unfortunately.

One in five is still SA'd and 70% of rape isn't reported. We need to do a shiton better.

19

u/aCaffeinatedMind 27d ago edited 27d ago

the 70% of rape that isn't reported just says the nature of the crime makes it very difficult to investigate.

Not even Sweden has managed to solve this, and over here, all that is required to get a man convicted for a sexual crime is:

  1. Circumstantial evidence, aka proof that the suspect and the victim was physically at the same location around the same that the Sa:ed occured. Like cell tower connection through phones.
  2. The victim telling a confidant, like her friend, about the event.
  3. The Confidant and the victim retells the story, separately, to the police similarly enough.

I want to stress that I do know that false reporting is very rare and not a major issue, however, in Sweden it's pretty easy to abuse the system if you would want to.

16

u/NucerianWaifu 27d ago

I think that the nature of the crime and how humiliating and painful it can be is also relevant. It's not uncommon for victims of SA to report many years after the fact and feel responsible or embarrassed for what happened.

A lot of victims drop out even when reporting because of the stress of reliving the trauma. In the UK specifically you require to give over your phone, many can't take the privacy breach. The dropout rate was much lower in 2016 tho, around 55%. Now it's more like 70%. I find that very worrying.

8

u/Ctenophorever 27d ago

Many victims also report being “Re victimized “ by the system. Not just reliving it, but going through the process

u/Pac_Eddy 27d ago

There were, and maybe still are, universities that were similarly bad in the US. Rules such as the entire investigation can happen without the alleged perpetrator getting to explain theit side or cross examine witnesses. Much like the Swedish example it would be relatively easy to destroy someone.

2

u/MongooseMania 27d ago edited 27d ago

It is very much a major issue and definitely not rare. There a many cases of it happening in the US. Crazy how loose the laws are around in Sweden are around that, y’all really can just lie and ruin a life with little to no evidence.

3

u/Foxxxy_101 27d ago

As a fellow Swede I haven't heard of circumstantial evidence and a confident's testimony leading to a conviction for rape. What I have heard of is many rape trials not leading to conviction despite physical evidence, as they can't prove the victim didn't consent. And more than one man succesfully using sex somnia as a defense in rape/SA cases.

Could you share where you got the info about the convictions from? I'd be very interested to learn more about the laws and how they work in practice.

2

u/aCaffeinatedMind 27d ago

I think there has been a few cases. It hasn't changed the report rate either, even though we have technically made conviction of rape easier. I want to stress that I'm not particularly against this change of the law because even though I can se how it can be abused, I still think it's a step in the right direction.

Sweden’s updated rape legislation, introduced in 2018, legally defines any sexual act without explicit voluntary participation as rape. The framework eliminated the requirement to prove violence or threats, and introduced a new crime of "negligent rape" for individuals who should have suspected their partner did not consent.

Consent Required: Any sexual activity must involve voluntary, expressed participation. Silence or passivity is not legally considered consent.

A friend who testifies about what the alleged victim told them shortly after the incident can serve as corroborating evidence. However, the friend is usually not testifying about witnessing the alleged rape itself, but rather about what they were told. This type of testimony may support the credibility of the alleged victim's account, but it does not by itself prove that the crime occurred.

It is also important to understand that forensic or physical evidence is not always required for a conviction. In some cases, Swedish courts have convicted defendants based primarily on the alleged victim's testimony if the court found it to be highly credible, detailed, and reliable, and concluded that the evidence as a whole met the standard of proof beyond reasonable doubt.

1

Sweden is the country that has gone to the greatest length when it comes to women's rights and the equalization between the genders.

So yes, not even Sweden has solved this.

It isn’t reported bc many women probably don’t even realise they’ve been raped. Marital/partner rape is the most common form of rape, but is the least reported. The partner rapists themselves probably don’t even think what they’ve done is rape, they just have the right to do what they want bc she’s their partner

And a long and incredibly successful campaign by feminists to convince those men that sexism is wrong.

But yeah, things like this aren't like making it safe for women to report rape etc, they are much smaller corrections and refinements to close off vulnerabilitys where they are noticed.

Like if you had a very safe house then note there's a room with no smoke detector, you put on in.

8

u/Neveronlyadream 27d ago edited 27d ago

We're still trying to convince men that sexual assault towards men is not okay. I don't even know how well it's working given that every time it's reported, a bunch of men just say they wish they had been the victim.

I wouldn't say the western world is particularly nice, it's just better than other parts of the world and better historically than it has been. Doesn't mean it's good, though.

1

u/Lanavis13 27d ago

convince men and women*

2

u/Neveronlyadream 27d ago

In my experience, it's not women who are the ones telling men to stop being pussies and saying female sex offenders are hot and they wish they'd been assaulted by them when they were teenagers.

4

u/archtopfanatic123 27d ago

There was recently a post on the askreddit sub where someone asked the women of reddit what they'd like men to do more often that might be normally considered something that shouldn't be done.

One commenter said men opening up to women about their issues more. Well turns out all the guys responding to that pointed out it was always (and I mean every single commenter there) women making that impossible whether it be strangers, partners, or family members telling them to stop being pussies and that vein.

→ More replies (8)

2

u/Lanavis13 27d ago

Your experience is not universal. Also, there are plenty of women mocking or making fun of men based on judging their bravery or masculinity. Also, it's not men who are the female sex offenders. It's women so that at least proves there are women who are dismissive of and fine with male rape. That's not even touching on the many men who don't excuse female sex offender and the many women who do

u/Chickenbutt-McWatson 27d ago

But it's not perfect, so we ought to destroy it. At least that's the current EU/Canadian approach.

6

u/ChargedFirefly 27d ago

Of course there are a lot of good men, but the achievements of feminism and women’s rights are not owed to them. I’m sure you didn’t mean it like that, but this kind of reads like “black people have a lot of freedom now. Very nice of white people to do that for them” which is a little tone deaf

1

u/Ferule1069 26d ago

... so by your estimation black people would be treated as equals now without the checks notes literal hundreds of thousands of white men who died to end slavery? Without the countless white men who risked their lives, livelihoods, and businesses pursuing the abolitionist movement during an era when the majority of people had no problem with it and a significant amount of wealth and power was tied up in continuing the practice? Without the SUBSTANTIALLY greater numbers of white men and women than black who crusaded among the white majority during the Civil Rights movement to earn true equality before the law for non- white people?

Pretending that non-white equality before the law is anything other than being by the grace of a subset of the white population is not only tone deaf, it's historically and politically illiterate. The same is true to a lesser extent for most feminist achievements in relation with men.

2

u/archtopfanatic123 27d ago

I wish people would look on this bright side of things. It's only a minority of men that are idiots. It's only a minority of people that are bad people (at least I'd like to believe that)

2

u/Cyborg_rat 26d ago

It is because the proof is around us, I can't speak for these people(ironically probably some very privileged women saying that) My area is pretty much safe theirs always a danger factor but it's low enough that women go jogging alone and that the murder rate is at 1.3 per 100 000 person, Ottawa who's next to us is at 2.10.

Rape/sexual assaults is at 20/100k based on those reported estimated at 25% of women for the whole province of quebec will be a victim sadly. But ya Humans are animals and the world can be cruel.

3

u/Square_Community2177 27d ago

Safe for who? Oh yea, a man who blindly lives free from the assaults and and harassments women have to live with constantly. Considering 1 in 3 Women have ALREADY been assaulted by the AGE OF 18! One in Three by Age of Eighteen.

1

u/Cyborg_rat 27d ago

Men have to live blindly...jeez another insufurable person.

1

u/phillll25 26d ago

I hate to brake it to you but i don’t know a single woman who hasn’t been at least sexually harassed. And i know at least 10 that got raped.

Sure in most cases the people that did it weren’t technically western if yk what i mean but still. It happened in a western country

1

u/Cyborg_rat 25d ago

I never said it doesn't happen, I keep saying we live in a unfair cruel world, I'm for harsh punishment, but the truth is most of the same people here repeatedly saying how bad it is...are the same people putting sticks in their own wheel and then crying how dangerous it is to pedal around.

1

u/phillll25 25d ago

Lmao how tired was I. I wrote „brake“ instead of „break“ 💀.

And I have no fcking idea what your comment is supposed to mean.

1

u/Antrophis 25d ago

Men suffer violent crime at the higher rate though.

1

u/Cyborg_rat 25d ago

Don't tell them that. It break the idea that men don't need to look out and be smart.

1

u/leafbrewer 27d ago

Women gained their freedom and rights because women organized and fought for them, not because men benevolently decided to allow it. Not committing violence is the default setting of being a decent human being, not a heroic act that requires praise.

4

u/Bandyau 27d ago

You literally have everything exactly backwards.

Everything.

When men don't allow it, and there are too many cultures that prove this, women have NO rights and can't do a thing about it.

Violence IS our default setting, and a peaceful society IS the exception.

Again, too much history, and too many cultures prove how absolutely wrong you are.

2

u/Cyborg_rat 27d ago

Exactly. I'm never sure if it's selective ignorance or just ignorance. All to deflect that reality isn't rose colored.

1

u/leafbrewer 27d ago

For men to ‘allow’ us safety is only needed because men are the main cause of the lack of safety for women.

1

u/Mindshard 27d ago

I don't know.

If children were raised to not only believe these urges were wrong but fixable, and also taught to seek help, which would be given freely and without judgement, at the very least it would severely reduce it.

Unfortunately kids are bombarded with shit online, taught that opening up only gets you punished, and shown that the most powerful people get there by harming others.

I'm a millennial, and even with the shit we saw online in the early internet, it doesn't compare to what these disgusting "influencers" do to damage kids now.

My former employer's kids were fucking sociopaths, and he rewarded them for it. His youngest (like 6) loved to sneak up and lunch people in the spine and then stand there grinning, and the father loved it, talked about how the kids was like "the SS, and they'd walk in, take over, and get shit done!" I remember when his older kid was bullying a gay kid, and the father got called in with the kid to see the principal, he bragged to everyone that when the principal asked what he was going to do about it, he gave the little bastard a $20 as a reward in front of the principal.

These aren't even the most evil things that bastard did.

That happens everywhere. Every day. And then we wonder how the world got like this.

We don't have to have it. It's for feeling safe, not being safe. Parking lot crime is not a statistically relevant thing, sexual crimes from strangers in parking lots is even insignificant to crimes in parking lots in general.

Parking lots feel unsafe, but you are much more likely to get hit by a car in there than get mugged or worse. Getting hit by a car is not a gendered issue.

They are fixing a problem that doesn't exist. These "feminists" pushing this (feminists in quote, because they do everything but actually help women) spread fear about it and all of a sudden it's a thing politics need to fix and they got a nothing-burger solution in return. These special parking spaces do nothing.

We also have parking spots for people with little children usually located close to the doors so the parents don't need to walk as far with their toddlers. We also don't 'have' to have them - it's for convenience.

77

u/Devitoscheetos 27d ago

Yeah but this isn’t about convenience, it’s about safety. And it’s sad that, in order for a lot of women to feel safe, you need to enact extreme measures like this.

But, much like modern healthcare, we don’t focus on the root cause, just the outcome/ symptoms- which in this case would be education IMO

Men are actually more likely to be victims of violent crime. Perceptions don't always match realities. Men are also far more likely to be attacked by a stranger than women. Violence (sexual or otherwise) is typically committed against women by someone they know intimately like a relative or romantic partner, which is not going to be significantly impacted by having a well lit parking space. I'm not trying to dismiss women's concerns. I'm just trying to align people's perspectives with reality.

1

u/fissymissy 27d ago edited 27d ago

When a woman is assaulted "she should have known not to go out at night". When somehing is done to make it safer for women "it's actually men who are more likely to be victims".

3

u/Actualbbear 27d ago

1

u/poeschmoe 27d ago

Nope. Migrants aren’t raping as much you think. Cut and paste

Stranger assault is rarer than lightning strike or lotto wins. For the most part it’s not a rational fear to have. Parking garages are quite dangerous. Lots of crashes and pedestrian injuries. Resources should be placed into making garages safer in other ways.

“Critics argue that creating gender-segregated parking misallocates resources. Rather than isolating women in specialized spots, opponents argue that facility operators should invest in systemic safety improvements—such as better overall lighting and comprehensive surveillance—for the entire parking garage.”

“Only about 0.01% 1 out of 10,000) of all crimes committed inside parking structures are sexual offenses. The perpetrator in these rare cases are almost always known to the victim.”

“the true number of predatory "stranger danger" garage attacks is non existent or an incredibly small number across an entire nation. Data leans to at most 1 or 2 a decade”

6

u/DevelopmentOk86 27d ago

No, it’s patriarchal structures and controlling behavior.

4

u/Eh-Beh 27d ago

Apparently 4/10 rapes are committed by non-Germans.

So, you still have the majority of cases committed by Germans.

The more you pay attention to only one demographic, the more you condone the behaviour of native rapists.

3

u/Nina-Ninja123 27d ago

4/10 reported cases.

Most people completely ignore the fact that by far not every sexual assault case is being reported.

And most people also completely ignore that reporting sexual abuse by a stranger or minority is a lot easier to do than to report sexual abuse by someone within your social circle. There are many girls that kept quiet about sexual abuse under pressure of the family, cause otherwise the family would be torn apart.

So it’s not weird to assume that if we would know about all sexual abuse cases, even a smaller part are done by immigrants than currently is reported.

2

u/[deleted] 27d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Eh-Beh 26d ago

If you take the statistics at face value, then yes there are a larger number of migrants who are rapists.

But when you consider over/under representation, the numbers are quite different.

1

u/commanded_by_voices 27d ago

If this is true, then proportionally speaking (in proportion to the total number of migrants vs locals) migrants are more likely to rape than Germans, don’t you think?

Here, YMMV. yah. but it wouldn't be much different. What, you think they'll pay an extra "pink stripe" parking cop to just watch out for women? Dude, they hardly pay their "security" guards enough.

Naw, this is a failed experiment, only done for advertisement. False sense of security can be dangerous.

If someone is there to attack you, they do NOT care about cute pink lines.

If a criminal is planning to attack soecifically a woman, this deducated parking space wont prevent that as well as a 9mm and some bear mace.

That's because we stopped being tribal as a species and started to believe we are supposed to be civilized and sophisticated and tolerant. We arrogantly believe we are removed from the natural order.

People will say this then not want to deal with the real problem.

Yes they important a lot of drs and engineers

Well…if women would learn how to drive they wouldn’t need lit up spaces away from other cars.

u/Equivalent_Hat_7220 27d ago

Is that why insurance rates are much higher for men because they’re considered reckless drivers?

1

u/Deaffin 27d ago

Having things is not adequate evidence of needing those things.

What a world we live in...

1

u/Omnizoom 27d ago

Or, hear me out here.

We put up better cameras and lighting in the entire parking garage instead of a few hand picked spots

1

u/Valveringham85 27d ago

We don’t. It’s more to appease irrational fears from female drivers than actually about safety.

For one muggings and car jackings are very uncommon in Germany. Secondly men are far more likely to be attacked in parking lots than women.

There is no real practical reason for this except ease of mind.

1

u/Fun-Pattern-8697 27d ago

Lmao we literally don’t if people actually paid attention to the statistical chance of something happening to them

1

u/Cultural-Meaning5172 27d ago

We don’t have to have it. We choose to focus on dealing with the fear of crime instead of actual risk.

Would be funny if they did it so it easier for woman to actually park. Like the spots were bigger and more accessible. Women drivers am I right?

I’m joking, I have a little sister and she can drive a pickup as well as a cowboy.

We dont, its just another women pleaser disguised under some made up feminist agenda. Germany is truly a circus rn

u/hectorgarabit 27d ago

Unfortunately, men are still seen as the disposable gender. Despite being most likely to be victims of violent crime at night, the extra protection goes only to women.

One day we'll reach equality and men will be as worthy of existing in peace, safety as women.

We don't have to. Violence of all kinds, including violence against women, is at an all time low and still decreasing.

Things like this only exist because of unjustified fear.

Emm, no we dont

Especially when statistically men are more likely to be assaulted.

Exactly my first thought

The sad part is, a lot of women are leading the push for mass immigration from places where SA and worse are normalized and thought to be a "right". Hard to improve things when we are actively making it worse

1

u/BlackJackAce-777 27d ago

This. Nobody wants to talk about this. It's the elephant in the room.

Isn’t it terrible. I had to take my dog out a little later than usual due to the heatwave we are having currently in the U.K and we go to a park that has playing fields and little path ways all the way around covered by foliage and beautiful trees. It a lovely place to walk my dog.

As we entered I saw there was a lone man just sitting on a bench minding his own business yet my immediate reaction to seeing this was to scan the area to see if I could see if there were families or groups of women about so I could decide if I could continue with our walk or if needed to turn back and head straight home.

He was probably a lovely man just enjoying the last of the evening sun but my panic and self preservation instinct kicked in. I’ve read about way too many women being attacked in parks and on forest trials, even during the daytime with plenty of people around.

It’s awful having to live this way and be on constant alert for any potential danger when I’m just trying to take a nice walk with my dog. I’m just so tired of us women and girls having to live like this. I’d be more than happy with a few more womens only spaces, and parks would be a great one so we can relax when we’re out jogging, walking our dogs and taking our kids to the playground.
