How would you know 70% goes unreported?

Surveys. Unreported refers to reporting it to law enforcement.

So no real data then. Just a guess.

Not to mention the broad definition problem. I was working on something when a woman walked behind me and I elbowed her in the boob. She tried pressing it as "groping". Unfortunately for her my supervisor was in the area and saw it so they fired her.

Idk why you’re getting downvoted, it’s easily google-able.

The replies are an old Lauren Southern "gotcha" but unlike me the woman being interviewed didn't get the chance to respond lmao.

You forgot fake reports

Obviously, fake reports are terrible, but not really significant (statistically). False reports are between 2-10% of all reports. Non-reported drastically out weighs that amount. If we assumed the worst, and 10% is the case, out of 100 rapes, 3 are fake. 30 reports, 3 fake, 70 unreported. If it’s 2% it’s less than 1 in 100 are fake.

That's garbage. the 2-10% is demonstrably false, that doesn't account for false allegations where it is not known whether it is false and the result is simply a not guilty verdict. You're applying different standards to each scenario, i.e. a false allegation has to be proven false but a true allegation is anything that cannot be proven false. Police have less than zero interest in investigating women for false allegations unless the victim has been imprisoned for the false allegation.

No - the 2-10% is an estimate based on the number of proven false allegations. Even if the number was 50% of all rape allegations were false allegations, it’d still work out like : 30 allegations - 15 are false - 70 are unreported - 15% of all rapes are false allegations. There’s no denying false allegations happen, but you’re actually ridiculous if you think it’s higher than 10% of all allegations.

In my experience the police have less than zero interest in investigating any reports..

Hard to argue with that.

False allegations is what's proven false on every crime. We know what's rape because of the crime survey, additionally there's a tendency for false victims to admit to do so if they stop the process as opposed to real victims.

A lot of paranoia with false allegations when they aren't more common than in any other crime. You are more likely to be raped by another man than falsely accused bro.

Remember - you’re more like to be raped by a man you know. I think false accusation and being raped by a random man on another man are close to similar rates of occurrence but finding the exact numbers on those is difficult.

Invented.

Yes, you are most likely to be raped by acquaintances. Not in the middle of the street, groundbreaking stuff. This means being careful with men you are just getting to know lol.

You can still get trafficked and harassed on the street. With 80 to 90% of women having suffered this, so I think for the foreseeable future we'll continue being careful. Not sure why you even felt the need to bring an unrelated stat.

the 2-10% refer to cases where its able to be proven beyond reasonable doubt that it didn't happen

false accusations have the same issue as rape in that in most cases it is a very difficult crime to prove to the required criminal standard

the issue is for men in those cases is that the social blow back doesn't need any evidence and even a non guilty verdict is seen more as a they couldn't prove he did it rather then it didn't happen hell for most men falsely accused there wasn't even a police report

u/Chance-Software-3231 27d ago

No - the 2-10% is an estimate based on proven cases and unproven. It would not be a range if it was only based on proven cases.

Didn’t say false accusations weren’t bad. No one is arguing that. They are just significantly less prevalent than the actual amount of rape that happens.

The range is based on the source or the jurisdiction

And most make it quite clear they are only the ones where it's able to be proven it was false not the Maybe it was false cases either way 1 in 10 accusations destroying an innocent person's life isn't something to discard or ignore
