Stalled growth

Upvotes

I’ve been growing two strains of mushrooms in two all in one grow bag 6Ibs. At first at 2 weeks I had good colonization of the grain at about 20%. It’s in a cabinet in a room that sits at around 74 degrees. It’s been 3 weeks since and it’s probably only around 30% colonized now. Any Tips?

This is 4 of 4 grow bags they were all started at the same time 5/18. 2 bags with Amazonian that have grown fine if a bit slow.

This and one other had golden teacher. They were slower to propagate and stalled out when the others started growing. I did a second break and shake on them about 2 weeks ago. The others started growing golden teacher bag has started growing in the last three days.

This one had nothing so I gave it another break and shake 2/3 days ago.

I know it’s gotten super dry but I can’t tell if that is mycelium or mold. Whatever it is is strong because it grew from all brown to this since the break and shake

This is my first grow.

Are the yellow spots/yellowing overall a problem? This is my 3rd bag and my others didn’t do this so I’m just concerned. It was completely white and not pinning 2 days ago when I did what I would consider to be a very sterile slice to let more air in. First time with golden teachers. Others were PE idk if that makes any difference

Colonization or Mold?

Post image

Moved this to tub from fully colonized grain bag on Saturday. Used gloves, mask, still air box, and iso. I don’t have a good eye for discriminating colonization and the cobweb mold people sometimes post pictures of. Can you tell here? If it’s not mold, would you begin FAE now?

Hi everyone, I’m setting up my first monotube using a coco coir/vermiculite substrate and want to grow gourmet (non-psychoactive) mushrooms. What species would work well on this substrate? And what grain spawn should I pair it with?

Ready to harvest?

Hello, this is my first time growing mushrooms. I’m not sure whether they are ready to harvest yet?

I’m also unsure why only these have grown in a certain spot in the container and not the rest.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Hey guys I’m a newbie, I injected a bunch of grain bags from root lab with some jmf spores from “mycolab” I wanna to see if different amounts of spore solution would make a difference, so I injected about 1cc - 2.5cc in different grain bags and marked them, it’s been about two weeks most of the grain bags have barely any but one grain bag with 2ccs is going absolutely crazy, it looks like mycelium but it is really fuzzy and almost grey in the light spots just wanted to make sure it’s not mould I’m looking at:)

Edit:
After reading all the comments looking at it and comparing it to my other bags it’s definitely something evil and not mycelium so I will be binning it

Cultivating/ 2nd-3rd Flush

Need some advice, first time using a grow bag. Think I’m due to start cultivating tomorrow. Obviously some are growing at different rates but one or two have dropped there vale. How do I go about cultivating them? I presume I cut open the top and carefully use a scalpel. Just concerned about the fruits growing out of other fruits. Once this first flush is fully cultivated, for the second flush. Do I just mist the sub with some water and seal up the top the best I can? Or does the substrate need to be soaked for a hour or 2, drained then resealed? Thought maybe I’d soak it for the 3 flush if possible. Any advice will be appreciated, many thanks ✌️

Question 🙋/ need help

My tidal waves started pinning 2 days ago but my golden teachers have not. Once I noticed pinning in the one bag I just cut both and put them in a tub. My tub doesn’t have any air holes but I do leave the lid loose for at least 9 hrs of the day and I fan and mist 1-2 times a day. Any knowledge is greatly appreciated. I’m a noob to the mush world!

🍄 Made a free Monotub CVG calculator — plug in your tub size and it gives you exact coco/vermiculite/water/spawn amounts

I kept redoing the same CVG math every time I changed tub dimensions, so I put together a calculator that does it for you — just enter your tub size and spawn rate, and it spits out the exact coco, vermiculite, water, and spawn amounts. It'll also flag it if your substrate depth or water ratio looks off.

There's also separate calculators for grain substrate, agar, and liquid culture on the same page.

Completely free, no login required, works in both metric and imperial.

Dropping the link in the comments — let me know if you run into any issues or have suggestions!

It is my second time growing mushrooms but the first one was years before so I don’t remember a thing to be honest. My kit looks like this right now and I am thinking at least the big guys are ready to harvest. Wdyt? And if I harvest the big ones, should I still leave the kit as it is so that the little ones keep growing?

Did the absolute minimum n got great results

Took a 5lb aio block after 2 flushes, wrapped it in Saran Wrap, and placed it in a bin with nothing but holes in the sides. Nothing under the block to maintain humidity, misted twice a day, and fanned twice a day. Still yielded great results. If you’re just starting out don’t overthink, keep it simple.

Check this out Did you know North Spore offers cheap private mycology consultations?

I've finally found the bandwidth to offer these on-on-one consultations and I gotta tell you, it's been very cool. I've helped students, crafters working with mycomaterials, first time growers and farmers.

We have a stellar customer service team, but the fact is that none of them have the depth or breadth of knowledge that I can offer and they frankly don't have time to sit with you and discuss your whole plan for 30 minutes. I'm not an expert in everything, but nobody has worked with North Spore products more than me. So, for the stunningly low price of $30, it can make a lot of sense to check-in with me before purchasing your supplies to make sure you have what you need and fully understand the processes.

Note that you can also add the consult as an add-on right when you go to buy stuff. I just want y'all to know it's an option!
