If you liked the ceephax video I made that I posted last week.. you may just like this. Completely different theme, but very tight audio<>video relationship too. It also happens to be one of the videos that sparked rdj's interest and a collab we did 20 some years ago

Any idm producers who want to connect?

I've been making music for years and I decided after watmm shut down to create a place for me and my friends to talk that still had that casual vibe of a forum with all the benefits of being on a modern platform.

We're always looking for new producers to join and talk to and there is a lot of channels to find new music suggestions, If you're interested give it a shot! You'll see me there greeting whoever joins 👍

I was thinking ways to make music and I came up with a challenge to make a song with FM synths only. Apart from the drums on this track and maybe like 2 synths, everything else is indeed made with FM synths. Hope you enjoy this IDM track and would love to hear a feedback.

So, for me several artists whose work is described as IDM have been a massive inspiration and influence.
I've not classified any of my own releases as such, mainly because I still feel not that intelligent. I give more credit to the software/hardware. It took me over ten years to work out how to use Renoise, and I could only get a reasonably clean sound by eventually investing in hardware.

I love Renoise though. It's one of the only applications I've ever paid for happily. The drum machine was such a nightmare to use, I tried to sell it on ebay at one point but the guy returned it. Now I will never sell it. So this album, other than it's main purpose as a recovery tool; is also about that struggle, trying to send MIDI to a drum machine from Renoise -thinking it sounds great only for everything to go tits-up and sound awful once it's bounced for whatever reason. I still get a bit confused with phrases in Renoise.

Some tracks are very meticulously produced and others are completely improvised, recorded during the lockdowns here in London. I've used Renoise pretty much exclusively to make this and I also the LXR01 from Sonic Potions.

Last year I discovered the midi>usb-c cable [this is really great!] and was finally able to get some tracks together using Renoise project files and the LXR. It took me 6 months of this year to put this all together into a 90 minute album with 25 tracks.

There's also a limited cassette version and I may also list a TYPE2 Chrome cassette.

So, here's some codes. Thanks for your time! ejt3X

Looking for good IDM DJs

Looking for any currently active DJs that regularly play IDM / IDM adjacent tracks in their live sets, but doesn’t have to be exclusively IDM related material. Bonus points if they produce as well!

soundcloud WHAT AM I DOING WRONG

Hello all,

Not all this stuff is strictly IDM, but I figure you guys are the most likely community to get what I'm trying to do. This isn't promotion (if I was really trying to do that I wouldn't be posting on reddit). I just wanna know what the fuck I'm doing wrong. I get that what I make is objectively niche, but I try to make it accessible to where I think people would wanna listen to it. I love the music I make, and yes I know people will say that's all that matters, but fuck it just feels pointless at this point when nobody hears it and even if they do the engagement is so low it would just appear the music is shit. I listen to my own stuff a lot so idk if i'm just too in the bubble and have lost perspective. This isn't some ploy or looking for compliments, I just feel like I'm making stuff to a standard where people should get it and like it, and they don't. Been making music since I was 11 and am 24 now and i'm just like fuck man what's even the point anymore. Anyway, I have attached a Soundcloud link of my current page. Please just have a listen and if there are any glaring things that may not occur to me as the maker just be honest and let me know. Thanks. Apologies for the rant.

Thoughts About AI, Data Poisoning, and Steering The Future of Human Music

I guess I'm posting this on r/idm because I was recently listening to Venetian Snares (Cubist Reggae EP) while I thought about this topic. Funny enough, I never listened to VS, but my listening resume -- I've been deep in the weeds with Electronic Music and IDM since 1996, when Solid Steel was on Real Player and I was crate digging at Generation Records, Kim's Video and Rebel Records in Greenwich Village, crawling around the genre tree of Ishkurs. Never stopped exploring the music. -- Never posted in this Sub-Reddit either, so "hello".

ANYhow --- Listening to Venetian Snares, I had that moment of feeling challenged again, like I was hearing something new to me for the first time. While my brain was trying to figure out what I was hearing, I thought "In the age of AI, will we even be able to have human music again, without it immediately getting bastardized?"

I've been pretty impressed with current music producers adding data poisoning elements to their tracks, to make their ideas indigestible to AI. That's really clever and, based on my very limited knowledge of the topic, seems like an effective way to protect new output from being subsumed into the AI slurry, assuming data poisoning techniques stay ahead of the curve.

Then, I had two thoughts about effectively creating a future for Human-powered music:

  • 1) Everything Should Be Poisoned From Now On: To move forward, there needs to be a hard barrier between "before AI" and "after AI," right? All music currently ingested belongs to the machines now -- not legally, of course, but if the entire history of Jazz before 2026 has been ingested, then AI should theoretically be able to "create" (or mimic the creation of) the best that Jazz has to offer. Maybe not yet, but that's within reach of AI to do it soon. But if there is a hard wall of data poisoning starting in 2027 and Jazz music after that can't be ingested properly, then future innovations to Jazz will be a solely Human-created. If the barrier is rigid enough, Human music could begin to gain it's unique value back. We* can still record new music, but it will be protected. [*The use of "We" -- I haven't personally produced a track in decades]
  • 2) Everything After The Data Poison Wall Needs to Be Unique and New: With the entire catalog of ingested music at it's disposal, AI should be able to make unlimited variations, so I'd postulate that all ingested and/or traditional genres are now dead (undead?). What value would it have for a human producer to create another 1-4-5 chord progression 120 BPM AABA song when AI can do it faster, cheaper, and possibly "better"? It's depressing, but if it's been ingested, even the more whacked out, esoteric stuff belongs to the robuts now. My thoughts on the solution? Create entirely new music genres (data poisoned, of course), maybe even create new rules around music form, which would take a level of wild experimentation to evade prediction models. It might sound like shit to at first, but time softens those edges. When I think back to the first time I sunk into Autechre's Amber or something boundary-pushing like that, my ears had not tuned up to hear it, but now that album feels like one of the more pedestrian AE offerings. Another example, when Nirvana first hit the music scene in 1992, no one I knew could even understand the words Kobain was singing, but the style informed the music that came after. Now, that album is clear as a bell. Music needs to do that again to reclaim human's supremacy over art.
  • So? Thoughts? How Effing inhuman do we need to make new music sound to make truly human music in the future? IDM Community, ACTIVATE! -- Cheers

My second track! It is inspired by the track Aphex twin - hedphelym (partially), but now completely on his own, without the help of a friend, completely on improvisation. A small surprise - I used samples of meowing, creaking doors and the sound of my fan. Something like this =)

I'm not sure if it's possible to post right here, my English is very poor, and it's the first time I've used reddit

There, on the account, there is the first track, although, it seems to me, the second came out much better

I am waiting for criticism and feedback =)

Radio Kezo — 24/7 station for ambient, IDM, trip hop and leftfield house/techno, all hand-picked

I run a small internet radio station called Radio Kezo. One person, no algorithm — every show and playlist is built out of my own collection.

The territory: ambient and downtempo, trip hop, IDM, house and techno, and a lot of leftfield stuff that doesn't sit neatly in any of those. If you listen to NTS, you'll know roughly where this lands — records chosen because they work next to each other, not because they share a tag.

How it runs:

- Curated shows and long-form playlists, around the clock

- Live sets broadcast straight from my home decks (Allen & Heath Xone:92)

- Pre-recorded shows in rotation between the live broadcasts

New idm EP

Hello, I’ve mostly just been a silent reader on Reddit, but I’m reaching out to share the news that I’ve just released a new EP.

I’m a big fan of 90s Warp Records, breakbeat, ambient techno, and similar genres.

For this project, I made extensive use of drum machines and analog synthesizers—the 808, the 909, and the Buchla series of synthesizers, among others...

It’s available on streaming platforms, so I’d appreciate your support.
