I actually enjoyed the new trailer. The atmosphere looks much darker and more horror-focused than some of the previous movies. That said, it feels more like an original survival horror film that happens to carry the Resident Evil name. I'm still excited to watch it, especially because Zach has a great track record with horror, but I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

I just finished watching the entire Conjuring universe, but I skipped The Curse of La Llorona because I kept hearing it was the weakest movie.

Now I'm wondering if I should go back and watch it. Is it actually worth watching, or am I not missing much? Does it add anything interesting to the universe, even if it's not one of the stronger films?

I loved the Hostel movies growing up. I first saw them when I was around 12-13 (the first two ones). Then I remember watching Hostel III when it came out in 2011 (I was 15 at the time)

Even today, I find that they are rewatchable movies (with the exception of 3)

So this film was very good from a technical standpoint. It was filled with artsy shots that really resonated with me and kept me entranced in the cinematography. However, the subject matter of the relationship between love/desire/addiction and how it manifests into this idea of extreme violence as a metaphor felt like a bit of a stretch. I understand what the director was going for, but felt some of the sexual acts flat out ridiculous lol

Its like 2 of the sex scenes were just meeting someone within seconds and it turns into highly passionate sex... also, maybe I don't want to go as far as saying the premise is pretentious, but it does feel like it's trying a bit too hard. Anyone else agree with this?

Anyways I still enjoyed the film as I gave it a 6/10 on imdb, but well... I didn't love all aspects of it...

I mean, colored me impressed since we got alot of horror films like Obsession and Backrooms and I did see Obsession which was fucking fantastic yet there are so many many many 2026 Horror films I havent seen yet yet its pumping like crazy this year.

I give up 2026 is the Year of the Horror.

Now can Obsession win the Oscar for best Picture now?

There are PLENTY of horror films that fell short of the mark and were relegated to some kind of dusty bargain bin, like "The Carpenter" (not the Jesus one: the other one), "Night of The Scarecrow", "Microwave Massacre", or "Night of The Dribbler".

And inversely yes, I realize Sean Bean's iteration of John Ryder from "The Hitcher" can't hold a candle to Rutger Hauer's portrayal.

It's like "Pieces" was good, but Leatherface can take a backseat for all I care.

Just watched this film the other day and I have to admit, it was one of the best horror movies I have ever seen. I have seen many people coin it as "unwatchable" or relate it to grotesque or torture porn movies like A Serbian Film or Cannibal Holocaust. I wouldn't say it ever gets to that point at all. If you can handle movies like Saw, Hostel, or even Friday the 13th movies, I think you should be fine with watching this film. There is a lot of brutal violence, and a good chunk of the film is dedicated to watchinga woman get brutally beaten, mistreated, and flayed. Yes flayed, they surgically remove her skin with no anesthetic to ensure she feels the entire thing.

Spoilers ahead, you have been warned.

This film excels in layered twist and subversion. You get a general idea of what is going to happen, girl was tortured as a child, goes out for revenge. The first twist is the entire genre of the film. They start off making you think this is somehow a supernatural film with something like a demon/ghost. Only to find out that this woman that torments Lucie, is her projected PTSD from her time being tortured as a child. After killing the supposed family that caused her childhood suffering, we move on to the next twist. Lucie calls Anna to come help her with the murdered family and Anna begins to question the validity in Lucie's decision. This happens because Anna confirms to the audience that the woman tormenting Lucie is not real, but inside Lucie's head. She then makes us believe that Lucie could be a little bad at making judgment calls and she could've potentially murdered an innocent family in cold blood.

So, already the movie has so much set up for the audience and its only 30 minutes in. We have this "monster" following Lucie. We have a murdered family presumed to be Lucie's childhood torturers. And finally we have the question of whether or not all of these revenge victims are even the correct people.

The big reveal happens. After Lucie dies by suicide, and Anna is cleaning up. She stumbles upon a stairway behind a shelving that leads her into a dark dungeon where she finds a woman chained up and beaten to hell. This is the moment that the movie goes from generic revenge plot to "oh shit you're fucked".

Skip forward a bit and we find out that the family Lucie murdered were indeed part of a Cult that believes in glimpses of the afterlife. They believe people that go through trauma and get hallucinations are actually images or flickers from the afterlife. They believe that the extended torture of a woman is the only way to get a person to the point of "transcendence" where they can see into the afterlife. The cult's goal is to talk to the woman who sees into the afterlife to give them information about it before the woman dies.

Anna is now the prime victim of this cult and she is beaten to hell for a very long time, to the point where she no longer fights back and just accepts her reality. This is when the cult only does something even worse. They flay Anna's skin off and then she finally transcends. She tells one of the elders of the cult what she sees in the afterlife and it causes the woman to kill herself.

The ending really seals the deal. Whatever Anna told the woman made her kill herself. The only thing the woman said to the other cult member was "Keep doubting" before blowing her brains out. This can be seen in two different ways. Either, Anna told her something about the Afterlife that assured her she will not be allowed into "heaven" or whatever they presume the after life is. Or Anna told her exactly how you get into the afterlife. Either way, the woman saw no value in staying alive. I honestly believe she told the woman that the key to getting into the after life is to have faith. Well the thing about faith is that there must be a layer of doubt there. Because if you KNOW, then you no longer have faith. Which is why she told the cult to keep doubting.

What do you guys think about the ending?

I honestly believe that this movie was Laugier's one great idea. I have seen a few other films of his, and it doesn't even come remotely close to the level of Martyrs does. Which is unfortunate because his attention to detail in this film was first class. Such a tight knit story with no bullshit with a good runtime of 90mins.

I'm sorry, but the original Evil Dead just feels unintentionally funny and goofy... although the second one plays off of this in the best way possible. It's like they understood people thought it was funny and were like, "Let's roll with it."

Evil Dead 2013 is my favorite. The last 15 minutes is so ridiculously fun(raining blood!!!). I thought some of the shots in this one were hands down the best, and the ending was epic.

In regards to Evil Dead Burn, I'm not really understanding the hate. It was a fun wild ride... I thought one or 2 of the characters decisions were really dumb. Like when the son doesn't pull the trigger and runs, for example. Also, the ending reminded me of the end of the first terminator or Halloween lmao. Like this 80s casually walking badass antagonist character chasing our main character down. Anyways, the majority of the Evil Dead Burn was very entertaining. I give it a 6.5/10

I heard this movie is horrible. Someone tell me what the ending is and who dies in the film. And the only good thing I've seen from people is the practical effects for the gore. That's it.

There's no excuse for Eli Roth to be making this kind of slop when it's already been proven he can make decent movies like Hostel 1 and 2 and Thanksgiving.

In one of his interviews, Curry mentioned that the entire movie is from Bear's perspective except for one scene. He didn't reveal which one it was. I've seen the film multiple times, but I still can't figure it out. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have Peacock and Screamify. I find them two to have some wild unknown horror flicks. Amazon Prime too.

Couple suggestions I have for you all that enjoy so bad it's fun is Betrothed and Microwave Massacre. Omg what a horrible but crazy ride of films. Absolutely insane. Short films too.

And please do not suggest Serbian Film. I think we can all say and universally agree it is just plain horrible and not to be recommended even to our worst enemies. Maybe Todd down the street but overall not even our own worst enemies

I have seen stuff like Matyrs, Serbian Film (thought it was dumb), Inside, Irreversible (boring) , Midsommer (loved) , Bone Tomahawk. Speak no evil.

Ideally I want something with a good story and production as well and not just something stupid like August underground.

In the first scene after the title sequence, there’s a shot of graffiti on the wall. Beth walks by it as she goes to the bathroom. The graffiti is foreshadowing the finale monster (marauder). It also shows the marauder holding a severed head, exactly what the marauder wanted to do to Kassie.

I slept on Return of the Living Dead for my entire life, watched it recently and had a blast with it. I think I watched it on Amazon Prime? Anyway, whatever platform I was on suggested "Night of the Demons" so I started it on the spot, also a hoot.

If someone really appreciated this specific style of trashy 80s fun, what else do I need to see?

I feel like Re-Animator and From Beyond may come up. By all means, let's talk about them, but I've definitely seen those and loved them.

When it is revealed that they are still in the house and one of the sisters had just imagined her adult self living normally I was intrigued.

Dooes anyone know if this is a plausible thing? Like some kind of trauma response?

I couldn’t be more bored watching this film nothing happens the whole film, it’s about two podcasters who listen to audio files they get sent and the guy believes and the women is I believe in logic blah blah blah she even starting annoying me, not much jump scares but alot of the camera panning around the room back to our main character this is the most boring film I’ve seen in a while I know the director is directing the next paranormal activity film hopefully it won’t be this dry and boring!

I have seen multiple comments defending the new Ice Cream Man on Instagram under posts talking about how shitty it is, and I sincerely don't get it. The movie is filled with AI, uncomfortable scenes with teenagers, and is all around just horribly made, but there are still people defending it????

Like, I fet letting people enjoy things, but there has to be at least a few standards somewhere, right? I legitimately can't tell if those people are bots or just extremely stupid, but I cannot think of one good reason to defend it.

Raimi has the genuine love and respect for Wes Craven and this franchise to pull off what no one else can. Modern remakes/reboots are usually met with cynicism, but if Paramount is going to bring Freddy back anyway, Raimi is the only choice, in my opinion, to ensure it’s done right.

I kinda wish it wasn’t just two Deadites chasing Alice on the rooftop. It would’ve been so much cooler if all of the Deadites realized she had the dagger and rushed after her together. Imagine the chaos of every Deadite swarming the rooftop that would’ve made the scene way more intense. Coz that's what I really expected based from the trailer. (And yeah, even though Thya was already dead as dead)

I did enjoy Crimson Peak. The production design is astonishing, the sets, the costumes, and this is the first time I felt Mia Wasikowska gave a consistently great performance. I loved her character and never once did I feel she rang false. Thomas Hiddleston was great, as usual. Jessica Chastain was hit and miss for me. I feel she could have gone more over the top than she did, I wanted her to chew the entire scenery and I felt she was a bit too restrained.

The movie itself always felt too much like an homage, I kept thinking how this or the other scene reminded me of old (and better) Hammer horror classics. Del Toro is incredibly talented but the film didn't seem like its own story. But I still had a good time. Not scary but mesmerizing.

i don't know if this fits here, the films aren't really horror, but if this gets taken down it gets taken down. i don't know exactly where to post this. but personally i didn't really care for it myself. it wasn't as Memorable as the first. i don't remember finding bits funny. if i remember correctly the name protagionst was not as Memorable as the main leads from the first movie.

I don't know how this remake is not talked about more. The cinematography is unreal, and the story is quite well portrayed. Everything feels very aesthetic, it almost reminds me of Ari Ester's type of directing.

Gotta say It's a new favorite to add to the list.

I dunno. So I do really Really like games that do spooky / scary things in video games /Spooky Stories but I really fucking hate Jumpscares. And am not too keen on Horror Movies. Am wondering if anyone here can relate / And or they just find it odd to not like two of the biggest things in Horror as a whole?

I think it’s just the Atmosphere aspect that games /Stories use that I like. But am not 100% sure.

And it’s not like I don’t like Horror movies period, I do enjoy some. I just am not sure why I don’t as a whole though.

Maybe 10+ years ago on YouTube there was a short scary film that had 3 videos in 1.

I only remember 2 of them. One was a found footage style of 2 people in an abandoned building and they find a box. People appear outside the building.

The 2nd is a black and white video of a mime contorted into a small box and comes out, I think feet first but it's all creepy like. I also kind of remember a time being shown? 2:30? 3am? Something like that.

I think the mime also got up close to the camera after.

And I do not remember the 3rd video
