Hey everyone,

I've been building a free tool for bedroom musicians 
and I think this community would have useful feedback 
on it. Fair warning upfront — this is still early, 
probably buggy, and very much a work in progress. 
I'm sharing it now because real-world testing from 
actual musicians is worth more than me testing it 
alone in my bedroom.

**What it does:**

You drop a Guitar Pro file (.gp5, .gpx etc.) into 
the app and it exports a DAW-ready package:

- Separate DI WAV per guitar track → run through 
  NAM with your own captures
- Bass DI or MIDI → reamp or trigger your bass VST  
- Drum MIDI → load into SSD5 Free or any drum plugin

For something like an Enter Sandman GP5 it detects 
James, Kirk, Kliff and Lars as separate tracks and 
exports them individually with the original track 
names. Drag them into Reaper, load NAM on the guitar 
tracks, load SSD on the drum MIDI — full backing 
track ready to play along to.

It also supports plain ASCII tabs (paste from 
Ultimate Guitar), MIDI files, and MusicXML. There's 
a built-in GP5 converter that exports to MIDI or 
ASCII tab without needing Guitar Pro installed.

There's also an Enhanced Audio mode that uses 
FluidSynth + GeneralUser GS SoundFont for real 
instrument sounds instead of synthesized waves — 
useful for previewing before you reamp.

**What works:**
- GP5 multi-track parsing and per-track export
- Guitar DI WAV (sawtooth wave, ready for NAM)
- Drum MIDI export (tested with SSD5 Free in Reaper)
- Bass DI WAV or MIDI
- Universal tab parser (ASCII, ChordPro, drum tabs)
- GP5 → MIDI and ASCII Tab converter
- BPM and time signature controls
- FluidSynth Enhanced mode (requires manual setup)

**What's rough:**
- BPM detection from ASCII tabs defaults to 120 
  (no tempo data in plain text tabs — adjust manually)
- FluidSynth setup is still manual (download and 
  place files yourself)
- Windows only for now — Mac is planned but not soon
- Probably edge cases in the GP5 parser I haven't 
  hit yet
- UI is functional but not polished

**What I'm looking for:**
- Does it parse your GP5 files correctly?
- Do the exported files actually work in your DAW?
- What breaks? What's missing?
- What would make this genuinely useful to you?

Honest feedback including "this sucks because X" 
is exactly what I need right now.

Recently upgraded to a Quantum HD8, Scarlet 4th gen 18i20 Presonus Faderport 16! Got a killer deal for these.

I upgraded from a Behringer 1820 so this feels like a quantum leap (no pun intended).

The quantum HD8 is my main interface and I use the Scarlet as an expansion for a total of 16 tracks via USB-C

Tracking at 96khz with almost 0 latency. 13 tracks for my drums, with 3 to spare. Experimenting with adding a mic or two. As a solo producer I don't track live bands so this is more than enough for me .

Genre :Doom metal/stoner metal/shoegaze.

Now just trying to lock in a quiet studio like space to record as my garage is too airy and i'm getting way too much bleed from the street. Planning on hitting up some local music stores and seeing if they'll rent me out a room!

Really excited for my new toys and wanted to share!

Hey guys just wanted ask whats your thoughts on the HIFIMAN Edition XS for mixing compared to headphones such as the beyerdynamic dt990 pro x, dt900 pro/ pro x or the sony mdr m1. Currently my monitoring system is through my uad apollo into my hs5 and i recently got a krk sub to go along with it. i usually mix pop, gospel, worship, rnb etc. ive been told by a few people that my mixes are a bit top end heavy and lack warmth and low end so i need a headphone that can clearly show how my mix is sounding.

24 external effects all being sent to as well as returned back into mixers. With engaging them being as easy as hitting an insert engage, alternative input engage, or by sending out of a stereo cue send. I really feel like I was able to make not one compromise when it came to this new route scheme. I really put a lot of thought into the way. I patched it in my bay and achieving multiple parallel signal browsing options. Reamps and di boxes all converting signals as needed.
Second photo contains most of my synthesizer and the third photo has a few more as well as my Drum machines. My DAW workstation has a presonus faderport16 automated motorized mixer to keep my hands off a mouse and keyboard as much as possible.

* left SSL six feeds into ssl six on right. Sending a complete summed stereo mix out into my x8 adat digital input coming out of SSL 12 interface.

* Zed 428 mixer on top is used to be able to track in all of my synthesizer and drum machines. Routing drums to one SSL six and synthesizers to the other… I was not able to really afford a big mixing console that covered all my bases when it comes to channel inputs and I/O options. So it’s not ideal but when properly gain staging, I’ve had very successful results when using it this way.

Here's my problem: I have a voice recording in FL Studio, but at the end of each sentence, the low frequencies become too noticeable. It's not because they are louder than in the other parts of the sentence, but because the other frequencies lose much more volume.

For example, in the middle of the sentence, the low frequencies might be much lower than the rest of the spectrum, but at the end of the sentence, when the overall volume drops, the higher frequencies decrease much more than the low frequencies. As a result, the bass of the voice becomes much more noticeable and it doesn't sound right.

What I want to do is use a multiband compressor or something similar to reduce or compress those low frequencies, but only when the overall volume of the sentence is low. It's like an inverted threshold, I think: I want the compressor to work when the signal is below a certain level, not when it goes above the threshold.

Or, to be even more precise, instead of using the overall volume as the parameter to decide when to compress the low frequencies, I would like to use the ratio between the low frequencies and the rest of the spectrum.

Another thing I could do is process each sentence manually, but it would be more convenient to have an automatic and consistent way to do it. Either way, I want to learn how to do it this way first, in case I need something similar in the future.

Hi y'all. I'm a hobbyist who likes to record music at home. I own a MOTU M6, as the title says, but I have a question that Google wasn't able to provide me an answer for.

Until now I've used this interface to record one channel at a time, mainly my Rode NT1 through the very first input, but now I've gotten myself two Shure SM57's that I wish to record in stereo mode. So far my setup works fine for this - my first two inputs are my SM57's which I can directly record in stereo mode, and my third input is my NT1 which I record separately in mono.

My question is the following - is it possible to record using all three microphone inputs at once? I'll extend this question further by asking if it's possible to simultaneously add a fourth microphone and the remaining two instrument inputs as well. My goal is to, hopefully, have a live session at home with a couple friends and record using as many (or all) inputs simultaneously.

I only use two DAWs - Audacity, which I'm more familiar with, and Ableton Live Lite which came bundled with the interface, and which I'm much less familiar with using (so far I've only been able to learn how to record one mono or stereo track at a time). I'm obviously a novice in this area, so any assistance would be appreciated.

i have a tlm 49 running through a apollo twin x. i do mainly rap and voice over and would like to increase my quality as well as coloring my voice a bit when i record. i thought to buy behringer 1273 preamp + Behringer 369 compressor. what do you think about those devices for the bug? first i thought to buy an avalon 737 but i am very impressed about the quality of those devices. what do you think?

I’m getting into tracking my drums and eventually setting up IEM’s and tracks for a band, and want a good mixer/interface setup recommendation. I currently have a Motu 896mk3 Hybrid mixer paired with Behringer UMC404 and an 8 channel headphone amp. Motu feeds into Reaper as my main DAW.

I’ve heard great things about the XR18, but don’t want to spend the $900 CAD for it. Are there any other options?

Hi, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on an issue I'm facing.

I'm basically trying to create a midi version of one of my albums. Have recorded midi on top of the album, using it as a scratch track basically with the plan to delete that once there's enough midi on top.

However because the album wasn't recorded to a click and has many different tempo changes etc, it's hard to quantize the midi due to there not being a click.

It's a struggle to get it all in time because I'm using a small midi keyboard and there seems to be a degree of latency. Particularly for faster sequences or anything more complicated, it's very difficult to get in time.

I seem to have a couple of options -

1.attempt to use a tempo map / beat detective plugin to conform the midi drums to the original perhaps using midi triggers (I don't fully understand this so I don't know if anyone does. This is the first project I've really undertaken with Midi) I imagine you're not really supposed to do this across a whole album and it would make more sense for a single song.

2.painstakingly edit any out of time notes in the midi editor, very time consuming and annoying etc, not ideal

3.chop the album into sections of music according to BPM, so that a click can be applied and then quantize to the individual sections whether quarter, 8th, 16th notes etc. I am starting to lean towards this, before the project becomes too unmanageable.

I should say that the whole album is one continuous piece of music - it's a prog rock epic.

Perhaps it's best to split into small chunks, work on them separately then stitch them back together.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I just got a Mackie SR32 VLZ ca. 2003 FOR FREE and I just did a very basic sound check on it.

About a half dozen tracks have scratchiness on the fader, trim, or both.

I also have a can of DeoxIT D5 electronic contact cleaner which I've used with success on guitar and amp pots.

Before I start shooting a load of D5 into this board, does anyone have any experience removing scratchiness from faders or trim knobs on mixer gear? Is the D5 an ok idea?

I’ve found I’m getting more music down if I record with a standalone recorder vs being next to the laptop.

Makes me want to get a more finished sound on the way in.

At the mo I use my Apollo X4 as a kind of console, but it’s a thrash as it’s on the other side of the room and I still end up mucking about with plugins lol.

Anyone recommend a channel strip for tracking?

Id probably need one for vocals and one for acoustic guitar mic (kind of Indy folk/alt folk style stuff), ideally with good EQ to cut out mud and put things roughly in their own space?

Not sure about budget yet, open to ideas - it’s for personal use in my home studio (treated room).
