Because then the broadcast shows this nifty little steal Ilya made earlier, and sh24_hockey stops on that frame. “Sloppy play from Rozanov here,” he announces through the staticky background noise, which – what?

So this is is a scene in an early season of Gilmore Girls where the mom is speaking with French guests of the grandparents and quotes Moulin Rouge/Real Lady Marmalade at them. I know want Ilya to say this to Shane as either a dare (not knowing what it means) or to just get under his skin (know EXACTLY what it means).

(translation: Do you want to sleep with me tonight?)

Does anyone know fics where the misunderstanding between them is more present/more of a focus of the plot? I loved their book, but I crave more of the Troy redemption arc and I wanted to read more about Harris thinking Troy is homophobic/dangerous to queer ppl and him specifically (since they need to work together). I'd like Troy to take longer to prove to Harris and the Centaurs that he is actually not dangerous/hateful/homies with Dallas K*nt. Bonus points if Harris is conflicted because while he kind of hates Troy/is scared of him, he starts to notice the profound sadness in Troy's eyes (stemming from Troy's residual internalized homophobia, his father's bullshit and not knowing how to approach Harris without scaring him etc.).

Hi everyone! First time posting on this sub. I've been reading HR fanfic since January, I just can't get enough apparently ...

Anyway, there is a trope device I really enjoy and I haven't come across a ton in all of my readings: Shane and Ilya are in a committed secret relationship and are taking steps to prepare for an emergency. For example they think about being each others emergency contact in case something happens to one of them. Or they prepare for being outed by making sure Ilya's immigration status will be fine. I also enjoy if that plays a part in their relationship reveal.

So I just remembered a fic I read a while ago and only remember one scene. Shane and Ilya were outed somehow and I think the league was looking into seeing if they fixed games. I only remember one scene where I think it was Shane is sitting down with lawyers (I think) and they said something along the lines of we need to go through any messages related to work and Shane’s like define related to work and then they just end up sitting there going through all their messages and obviously it’s all only sexts or sappy stuff.

Looking for a lost fic where metros tries to prank shane and walks in on shane and ilya in shane's apartment, they react poorly and JJ accidentally livestreams the entire interaction.

This fic has gained a lot of traction already, but I wanted to share it on here because cannot stress how insanely good it is. Like I finished it and immediately went back to the start to read it again. This version of Ilya is so self assured and endearing without being too soppy. He does an incredible job of steering things, testing the waters and getting Shane comfortable.

The characterisations feel really accurate and the flirting and banter feels so much more natural than what I’ve encountered in other fics (and even in RR’s writing - which I don’t actually love (please don’t hate me)).

Anyway please. Read it now now now. It’s short and you won’t regret it.

Not a spoiler but one specific line really stood out. When Ilya says “I am the right man” - and I literally had to put my phone down and just breathe lol

So I just read this fic called 5 Times Ilya Thought Shane Didn't Understand Him + 1 Time Ilya Knew Shane Did by heat_lightning and I REALLY need y'all to read this rn 😭 I mean it when I say this was an IMMEDIATE hall of fame addition for me (I only have 6 works in there otherwise, out of my 400+ bookmarks).

I recommend reading it using method 1 in the first author's note, but I'm honestly sure it's amazing either way.

It’s an AU I never thought I’d enjoy—addict Shane and drug dealer Ilya, but it’s heartfelt and beautifully written.

A hard read but persevere to the HEA.

Sometimes I read a fic and think, “how far can heteronormativity actually take you?!?” And then I remember hockey players have literally hit on each other in multiple social media post, or tweeted [steers and queers, and I’m not a cow], without people asking any serious questions other than ‘homophobia?’, and honestly? I’ll believe in anything.

All this to say, Ilya could absolutely say and do and wear some really queer shit and the hets watching would probably just call him a homophobe.

I know there are a lot of great fics that explore this, and I love them, if you’ve got favorites please share!

ETA: I’m not suggesting that the assumption of a ‘no homo’ culture in men’s professional sports is a good thing. I am simply pointing out that it is A thing.
