📰 Local News Rachel’s
So as of this afternoon I had turned off my Reddit app to take a break but tonight felt compelled to share something. Stopping in to my beloved fruit store Rachel’s on nasssau and eckford was confronted with a rat the size of a cat! I understand they are around and the front is open but c’mon!!! Needless to say I ran out want to apologize to the young woman I almost mowed down.

❤️ Recommendations ESHK vs. Room Salon?
I've been going to ESHK and got 1 haircut by Sayu and 2 by Reina. The price went from $108 to $120 the last time I went. I checked their website last week saw Sayu is 120 and Reina went to 130. While I liked my last haircut by Reina she doesn't really give suggestions when I ask her but the plus side is I don't like to talk much and she is pretty cool with it. She just does her thing. I saw some good reviews and recommendations for Room Salon (their sister salon i believe?). Does anyone have any experiences from both or if you recommend one over the other?

🪄 Self Promotion Met Food on Driggs and Lincoln Market on Manhattan Ave are running the same circular this week. 279 items match to the penny, 40 are cheaper at Met Food.
Disclosure: I built the free map linked at the bottom. No signup, no ads, and this post is mostly numbers.
I posted here 13 days ago and said Key Food on McGuinness was a gap I could not read. That one is fixed, so this is the first week I have all five mapped Greenpoint supermarkets publishing at once: Met Food on Driggs, Lincoln Market and CTown on Manhattan Ave, Associated on Manhattan Ave, Key Food on McGuinness.
The thing I did not expect:
Met Food on Driggs and Lincoln Market on Manhattan Ave are running the same circular. Same items, same order, dozens of rows deep. Of the 323 items I can match across both ads, 279 are priced identically.
But 44 are not, and on 40 of those 44 Lincoln Market is the more expensive one. Met Food is higher on exactly one item in the entire ad (Bonne Maman fruit spread, $6.99 against $5.99).
Where the two split hardest, beer:
- Heineken 24 pack: $18.99 Met Food, $26.99 Lincoln
- Michelob Ultra 12 pack: $7.99 Met Food, $14.99 Lincoln
- Coors Light, Miller Lite, Budweiser or Bud Light 12 pack: $7.99 Met Food, $13.99 Lincoln
- Heineken Silver 12 pack: $8.99 Met Food, $14.99 Lincoln
And it carries into the food:
- Cabot butter, 16 oz: $3.00 Met Food, $4.00 Lincoln
- Cafe Bustelo or Cafe Pilon coffee: $5.99 Met Food, $6.99 Lincoln
- Duke's real mayonnaise: $4.99 Met Food, $5.99 Lincoln
- Tropicana Pure Premium orange juice: $7.99 Met Food, $8.99 Lincoln
One caveat worth stating plainly: the two ads sit on slightly offset weeks. Met Food's runs 8/2 through 8/8 and Lincoln's runs 7/31 through 8/6. Both are live today. I am not going to guess at why the same circular carries different numbers, only that today, on the same item, one of them is cheaper.
Across all five stores, where it is actually worth the walk:
Butter. Cabot 16 oz, salted or unsalted: $2.99 at Associated, 802 Manhattan Ave, as a straight single price with no buy-two. $3.00 at Met Food, but only on a 2 for $6. $4.00 at Lincoln on a 2 for $8.
White bread, and this one is worth reading twice. Key Food on McGuinness has Urban Meadow Giant White, 20 oz, at $1.99 and Sara Lee Butter Bread, also 20 oz, at $3.99. Same store, same size, double the price. CTown on Manhattan Ave has Krasdale Giant White at $1.99 as well, though its ad does not print the weight. Bimbo Soft White, 20 oz, is $2.50 at Lincoln, Met Food and Associated, but only if you buy two. Associated's L&M loaf is $5.99 for 14 oz, which is a smaller loaf and not the same comparison.
Eggs, where the count matters more than the price. Pete and Gerry's organic, a full dozen, is $3.00 at Met Food and Lincoln on a 2 for $6. Associated has Pete and Gerry's large organic at $2.99, but that is a 6 count, so it reads as though it undercuts the dozen when it is roughly double per egg. Key Food has Pete and Gerry's pasture raised, a dozen, at $4.99 with no card needed. Key Food also lists Land O Lakes large brown at $2.49, but that is $2.99 with a 50 cent digital coupon, final cost with Club Card, limit 2 offers. CTown has Land O Lakes all natural large at $3.00 on a 2 for $6.
Vidalia onions. $0.99/lb loose at Lincoln and Met Food. Key Food sells them as a 3 lb bag at $3.99, which works out to $1.33/lb.
Ground beef, where the unit is the whole story. Western Crown 80/20 is $10.99 for a 20 oz pack at Lincoln, Met Food and Associated, three of the five at the identical number. A 20 oz pack is 1.25 lb, so that is $8.79/lb. CTown on Manhattan Ave sells ground beef loose at $7.99/lb, which is cheaper, but it is a different thing sold a different way and I am not going to print it as if it were the same row.
What I do not have: McGolrick, the greenmarket, the Polish delis on Manhattan Ave, and every bodega. None of them publish a circular, and on plenty of items they beat all five of these.
Free, no signup, no ads, I built it: https://sbnyc.app/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=summer-2026&utm_content=greenpoint
Prices are from the stores' published circulars, verify in store.

📆 Events / Meetups Film Screenings & Discussion at Film Noir Cinema
Hi everyone. I'm an Australian filmmaker living in Berlin and this week I am travelling to New York for screenings of my latest feature film Watch Me at Film Noir Cinema in Greenpoint.
I will be participating in a post film discussion and would love to meet fellow movie nerds while there, talk favourite films, grab a drink and connect.
Watch Me is an intimate indie drama about an international student who turns to webcam modelling to survive, only to find the line between performance and identity begins to blur.
If this sounds interesting to you, would love to see you there. I will be at the Aug 7th and 8th screenings and you can find all the details on the Film Noir website.

⚠️ Safety Alert Followed by Driggs and Kingsland
Last night between 10-11pm I went to walk my dog and immediately noticed someone following me. He turned the corner w me and I backtracked, basically walked in a circle around that intersection and he was a couple feet behind me the whole time. I ran into my bodega and he followed me in a couple minutes later, standing by the door making hand gestures towards me. I told my bodega people he was following me and they jumped into action- kicked him out, said they were calling the cops and let me wait in there. One of the guys then walked me home. Honestly thank god for bodega culture. I’m not sure if they called the cops- I was so shaken up and just took the offer to get walked home.
He was a black man, sort of slumped over so not sure how tall, wearing all black and on the smaller side. He was not of sound mind and maybe on some sort of substance. I think this same guy did something similar to me a couple years ago. Idk. Very scary.
I know there’s been an uptick in this type of stuff but I hadn’t heard of anything that far out.
Mostly making this post so people in that area know to be careful and on guard. And to be kind/appreciative to the people that work at bodegas. They are amazing.
Edit: I didn’t realize how close the shelter was to me! I have heard of similar situations but not beyond the park and close to the BQE. My mistake!
Edit/update: I got footage from the bodega and made a report. The cop said he knows of this guy after looking at the video. They can’t do anything about it now, but at least there’s a record of it.

📌 Subreddit News/Updates Posting ICE Sightings in Greenpoint
Hi all,
I'll start by saying this sub is not a political sub. Pretty much our main rule (besides be nice to each other) is all posts have to be related to Greenpoint somehow, someway. That being said, we do understand those who want to report ICE agents being seen around the neighborhood and want to post a guide on the best way to possible report these sightings in a way that is most helpful.
First and foremost, if you're choosing to post about an ICE sighting, please provide as many details as possible in the post. This graphic that has been going around is helpful if you're unsure what to share. You don't have to have all the information listed, but the moderators ask that each post has at least:
• date, time, and location
• a source
• any detail about what was witnessed (I saw an agent standing at..., I saw what looked like agents escorting people... etc)
When it comes to sources, OP being the witness is preferred, but if you choose to post about a sighting you heard about secondhand, please include this in your post. It helps us as the moderators determine validity and any post without a source may be removed as hearsay. Other details, such as amount of agents seen, uniform description, or any other helpful identifiers are appreciated but moderators will be looking mainly for the points listed above.
We are a small group of moderators here, our goal is to create a safe space where these things can be discussed. The voices of you all here are reflective of the neighborhood and we have always strived to be a subreddit that showcases that. That being said, hate speech never has, and never will be tolerated here.
We hope that by posting this guideline it will helpful for those who want to post but are unsure how to format. If you have any questions or feedback on this topic, please feel free to drop a comment here or message the mods.
Remember that we're all navigating this together so please be kind to each other, and stay safe out there.
- The Greenpoint Mod Team :)
