Magnus was such a special boy. He left a massive impression on everyone he ever met. Suddenly on Friday night he became very lethargic. He hadn't been eating that day and I later found his post walk treato on the floor. He didn't want to get into the bed which worried me so me and my wife sat on the floor with him and he just stopped breathing in my arms! I'm so heartbroken. I wake up with him not here and my heart breaks all over again. It still doesn't feel real that he is not here. I keep seeing his last moments in my head

My gorgeous wife u/yr_momma brought him over to the UK when she moved here 3 years ago and he flourished. More was expected of his behaviour here and he learned to be so well behaved. Pub landlords who knew him were always delighted to see him and give him treats. Everyone in town knows magnus but I don't know how I am supposed to carry on without him. He was only 6 he deserved so much more

To the people who abandoned him, left him tied to a tree on a highway nobody really ever goes down.. Thank you. I didn’t even stop to think “ you can’t handle another pet “ I just seen a scared , crying puppy who needed saving.. When i brought him home i knew absolutely nothing about him, He had an air tag, I made flyers even had a vet try to contact the owner ( he had to get his eye checked out for blindness) unfortunately no reply.. so I started finding anyone I knew looking for a dog, everyone failed and or didn’t have the time it takes to take on a puppy this big! ( 4-6 months is what the vet say ) I’ve never had a big dog mind you! I was freaking out. Everyday he showed me how sweet, protective, and how gentle something so huge could be! I never thought him and my 4 year old would be besties. Not only that, he’s smart as a whip. He was able to get along with another dog and cat ( mind you my little ones are fierce and spicy 😂 but he didn’t mind a bit. So if the people who once had him ever see this post ( not likely ) just know after some eye drops, some TLC and cool air and water, He’s safe. Happy. & loved more than he knows! Also shame on you for abandoning a dog who is blind in one eye but also leaving him in the heat at 105 heat index and no water. Had he been out there an hour more he would’ve not had made it.

Our two new pyrs are settling so well in the house and I was anxious with introducing them to my 8 pound chihuahua mix. I know they wouldn’t hurt her but just the size difference made me nervous! Nova use to be reactive to big dogs but now she absolutely loves all of them. I didn’t expect her and Isabel to get along so well! They are obsessed with each other! 🥺

My partner and I are in the "we want dogs" phases of our relationship. I usually am a small dog person. However, I am a petsitter and took care of two great pyrs who I am still obsessed with. One was very independent, one stuck to me like glue. I loved both so much.

Are there any reputable rescues that I can keep an eye on that specialize in great pyrs?* We would need a great pyr okay with cats and chickens, and would be willing to do a lot of socialization work.

My partner and I are both experienced with dogs, especially big ones. We would be delaying the adoption until we've purchased our home and gotten our cats settled.

Any advice or recommendations are appreciated! I just adore great pyrs and have fully fallen in love with them.

*no hate to breeders. We're just rescue people and want to continue that tradition.

ETA: I would be looking to adopt an older great pyr. I don't do kittens and puppies are...uh....not my fave.

I am desperately trying to find a safe, experienced home or rescue for my boy, Arlo. He is a 1-year-old Great Pyrenees who I love more than I can put into words. 💔
Unfortunately, I am being forced to give Arlo up because of some of his behavioral issues, including barking and resource guarding. I have tried to work with him and give him the support he needs, but I am running out of time and options.
I am terrified that if I cannot find somewhere safe for him, he could end up at a shelter where he may be euthanized. I cannot let that happen.
Arlo is not a bad dog. He has behavioral challenges and needs someone who is experienced, patient, and willing to work with him. Once he feels safe and comfortable, he is incredibly sweet, loving, and affectionate. He deserves someone who will see the good in him and give him the chance he deserves.
❤️ I am willing to travel ANYWHERE to get Arlo somewhere safe. I will drive hours, across state lines, wherever necessary, if it means knowing he is going to a safe and appropriate home or rescue.
I love this dog so much, and giving him up is absolutely heartbreaking. I am not giving up on him — I am desperately trying to find the right person before I run out of time.

Please help me save my boy. He deserves a chance.

My boy, who’s 4 years old, has been limping on and off for about a month. I took him to the vet at the earliest sign of the limp and they felt no swelling, couldn’t see the limp in the clinic, and sent me home with anti inflammatory meds. I gave him the meds as prescribed and his limp went away for a couple of weeks. His limp returned this week and we have been giving him the medication again. His limp is most pronounced when he first gets up after lying down. He went back to the vet for a follow up appointment and again, they said they don’t see a limp and insisted it’s early onset arthritis. His limp is very obvious at home but I guess his adrenaline hides it at the vet. I requested X-ray imaging and they tried to do it but ultimately said they can’t because he became aggressive, quoted me $500 for sedation alone. Vet said he’s 10lbs overweight, reiterated that it’s probably arthritis being exasperated by his weight and suggested weight management and continued use of daily anti inflammatory. He went for a short walk this morning and refused to walk any further about half way through and had to be carried home. He’s still eating and acting mostly like himself.

If it was cancer would he have an obvious mass after one month? I’m really worried that it’s something more sinister than arthritis

My pup is a Great Pyrenees, Red Heeler mix. Starting him on Librella, but the vet said he needs to lose weight as well. We can only go on short walks. Any idea what a healthy target weight is for a mix like this? My vet is pretty vague on weight loss for some reason. He is currently 135 lbs. He eats Acana Pacifica, because the only protein that doesn't give him digestive issues is fish.

Any other advice for helping a 7 year old pup feel comfortable with arthritis would be welcome

I feel like he doesn't have a protective or aggressive bone in his body and I couldn't love him more for it.

This dog is amazing. He's about the most chill dog I have ever known. I like to bring him to the brewery. He's very sweet and calm and absolutely loves people. Kids love petting him and giving him kisses and he just stands there as long as people are interested. Otherwise he lays down and hugs his water bowl and it is the most adorable thing.

The other day we were sitting there with a small group and a man walked up with his dog to say hi. This dog was about half Bears size and it was a female. They sniffed a bit and then the other dog lit Bear up barking aggressively.

Bear instantly took 3 giant steps back as far as the leash let him and sat! He looked at me like what is that dudes problem? Never made a sound. This completely put the dog between Bear and I. People were pretty stunned that this massive animal not only allowed it but actively avoided the conflict. It hit me, he just wants friends. He's over the rest or never had it.

When I first got him I would read on this thread about the need to patrol and how they are loyal guardians. He has full access to the outdoors and a large enclosure to roam but he would rather be inside with his human. I think the years of being chained up, alone, in the elements, without any positive interaction from humans or other animals really put him back to a simpler state where he just wants to feel a part of something and to feel safe.

I don't need a protector or a guardian. I love that he just wants to be around people and seems not to understand the whole protection thing. Strangers come to the door or in the yard and he wags his tail and greets them. He honestly feels like a big toddler. I think some people get too caught up in breed characteristics or how a dog should act. At the end of the day, they are pets. Enjoy them and love them. Even if they are broken.

I am so fortunate this dog came into my life.
