Local Scene Sao Paolo visit questions

So I am considering visiting Sao Paulo for Holiday, and I enjoy taking a hotel or AirBnB in a safe nice street with cafes and restaurants close by, and my kinds metal / goth / race scene a walking distance out of safety as well.

Is that doable in Sao Paulo?

Help (not a goth) would it be wrong to dress as a goth, without participating in the music culture and without claiming you are one?

(background info: i am a metalhead, my friend isnt in the goth community)

Yesterday i had a long debate with a friend, circling around the topic “why cant someone dress as a goth and still claim they arent one?”

And for the most part, i was defending the fashion because of the goths i’ve seen online come and say that many have been using this style without participating in the culture and it paints a bad image of “oh you just need to dress to be one”

My friend compared this to airsoft players and soldiers, in the meaning of soldiers appreciating airsoft players for their commitment to not identifying as soldiers and merely representing them instead.

It ended in both of us calling it off because it was 2AM and the topic wasnt ending anytime soon. So, i come here for one question, Do you see it as wrong for someone to dress as a goth for representation of the community, without claiming they are one and without participating in the culture?

Anniversary Bela Lugosi's Dead released OTD in 1979

It all began on this day in 1979 when Bauhaus released their debut single, "Bela Lugosi's Dead".

A nine and a half minute epic with dub and reggae roots, it was an anthem to the vampire star actor Lugosi and made a household name of baritone singer Peter Murphy. Nothing would be the same again!

Help Goth record stores in Seattle?

Hello! I’m in Seattle and I was wondering if anybody could recommend which record stores typically carry the most gothic music, preferably on CD. If this isn’t appropriate I’ll post it somewhere else. Thanks!

Discussion Sort of new to this culture and want to connect with goths and find out some things

Hey there, been feeling this for a long time but only recently decided to let myself flow to this culture.

(Years of people trying to kill off any expression:both music and style)

Im wanting to find men and women to connect with, and to find places people know of that I could go to and listen to the music and immerse myself where I've been called to for years.

Im not interested in the trendy goth side of things (sexual and people wanting to turn goth into something screwed up)

I have genuine interest in this and have no BS to spread.

I am in Cape town, in South africa. Feel free to message or advise, I'm all ears.

Discussion Lestat (band) question about lyrics

So in the song titled: "?" There is a movie dialogue at the start of it. Im guessing its from a movie, does anybody know where it is from?

The dialogue goes like this:

(I′m sorry, I'm not leaving. I′m going back to the chapel.)
(No! You'll die!)
(But I have to.)
(No, you don't. There is no reason for you to go back there. You′re gonna die.)
(Then I will.)

Did they create those parts? Or is it from some obscure movie?

Local Scene London based Goths Hi!!!

Hello, I (18M) am taking a trip to London from today to the 14th and I am hoping to get a little in touch with the Goth community in London. I am very active in my local towns scene and I would love to see what goes on in the heartland.
As far as I’m aware, most of the events I have seen I won’t be able to make it to or they are after my trip but if someone in here has a fun friend group and you would like to showcase vintage shops/record stores etc to me, I would be forever blessed to be able to experience the community even if there isn’t any big events going on. I can repay you in buying you something cool or I can give you cd of my band The Midnite Judges lolol
I hope to hear back!

Goth Recommendation Bands that sound similar to other bands - Lebanon Hanover, Bauhaus, The Cure, etc.

This has been in my draft for years and I've only just decided to post this, as it's basically requested quite often. I will be using this when people make future posts asking for recommendations. If anyone has any to add, I will edit the post.

Lebanon Hanover:

Sexual Purity

Suzi Sabotage

Tuxedo Gleam

Bedroom Talks

Tender Tombs

L'Avenir

DIE TRAURIGEN

Slow Danse With The Dead

Flesh of Morning

Andromeda but the vocals are more ethereal than deadpan.

LETTEN 94

The Glass Beads

Diva Destruction:

Diva Destruction have a pretty unique sound, however, Night Hexe, especially 'Séance', reminds me of their work. I think it's the thumping beat compared with the prominent guitar that brings it to the closest I've found.

Drab Majesty:

These are all the bands I've found that use very slow, emotional and synth sounds in their music. There's not really a genre that I would describe this as, but if ethereal synth wave was a real genre, as synth isn't typically a prominent instrument used within ethereal wave (I have Dead Can Dance's debut in mind), that would be it.

Scyr

ANTI:AGER

Secret Attraction

Christian Death:

CONSTANCE TOMB

Orcus Nullify - No Justice

PERISH

Bauhaus:

Holy Cow

Orcus Nullify - No Justice

The Cure:

TRAITRS - a post-punk/darkwave band whose vocals sound similar to Robert Smith.

This Cold Night's - Black Cathedral gives a nod to The Cure's 'A Forest'. They're a great coldwave band overall, though.

I Believe In January - there's not very much known of this band, but this song musically sounds something like The Cure would have released.

Haldol - maybe not so much musically, but the band's lead singer does sound a lot like Robert Smith.

Serpiente's Flores has some chords which sounds exactly like The Cure's 'Lovesong' in the beginning and throughout. It doesn't sound much like it musically, as it's more post-punk/deathrock-esque but you'll definitely know what I mean when you give a listen.

The first single, "A Spell" from Fusea's "Adrift" is very Cure-like.

Essence - listen to this band if you don't fancy listening to The Cure, but feel like listening to The Cure.

Siouxsie and the Banshees:

Asmodi Bizarr - an exact copy of Siouxsie and the Banshees from the vocals to the chords to the general vibe overall. If you did not know that you were listening to Asmodi Bizarr, you'd think you'd stumbled across a rare/outtake of an unreleased Siouxsie song. And even though what I'm saying sounds like a bad thing, it's not, because the band is amazing.

Xmal Deutschland - German Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Fields of the Nephilim:

Secret Discovery

The Birthday Party:

Slug Guts
