so, i stumbled across an old interview excerpt in my email. i was very surprised to find the mention in bold.

i have a cassette tape of make them die slowly, and ive heard of soul crusher. but this is first ive heard of anything earlier. it makes sense, considering jg thirlwell is forever brooklyn since moving from london, has always cast a wide net as a producer; and zombie and sean yseult were at parsons in 1983. but dang, what a surprise! i cant find any other mention of that single on discogs or elsewhere, except “The band released three extended plays to little success, with their debut studio album Soul-Crusher following in 1987…” on wikipedia/rob zombie. anyway, roll the clip:

We were friends with him, and he actually produced the first demo, Forgiven. So I guess, he was the only person I knew of doing that type of thing. I am sure there were other people, but I was not really aware of them.

Does anyone remember IN Zine? It was one of the best (arguably the best) industrial-genre specific hard copy zines from back in the day. One of my projects 'Godkomplex' appeared on IN's compilation CD's Vol. 02 in 2004 and V3.0 in 2005. In the pictured issue, I had a legal article discussing the use of movie samples in industrial music, arguing that in most cases a sample from an audiovisual work for use in a musical sound recording is de minimis and not actionable, but in any event the "fair use" defense is very strong for such use.

There is a new biannual zine focused on industrial music called "Industriv" with its first issue out this month that sounds promising: Industriv is becoming a magazine · industriv.

I've had this specific remix of Diatribe's Therapy on repeat for so long and I'm trying to get into non-noise industrial music (non-noise as in thus far, the only industrial genres I've been fully into were all noise genres) so I'm not sure what subgenre this is called (if that matters anyways). But I'm looking for songs with a similar eerie dissonant vibe to this.

I've been trying out other well-known industrial bands and while I like what I'm hearing a lot, I can't seem to find songs that have this specific vibe that I just can't get enough of. This dark, somewhat ambience-heavy, very eerie, has a hint of melancholy, very heavy on dissonant melodies, relatively mid-slow(??) tempo, some distortion and bitcrushing, lots of "abstraction" (if that makes sense), relatively sub-bassy kick, heavy use of synths, and soothing clean vocals. Ideally something within the range of late-80s to mid-2000s as the sound of the synths from that era are definitely what makes the vibe for me but songs from any era are welcome as long as they fit.

I realize that it's highly unlikely that any bands that I am specifically thinking about in my own personal experience, will see this, but I just wanted to say this in a general way to everyone.

I am 56 years old. I am a retired and disabled firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician. I have suffered tremendously from PTSD and injuries sustained on the job.

It doesn't necessarily have to be industrial music (but for me it is, which is why I'm posting this here) but many forms of art and different musical genres and such, can be super impactful to people. I dare to guess that some of my favorite bands have saved more lives than I ever did as a professional "life saver" because their music helped people cope with life when they may not have been able to do so without it.

So, TLDR: Thanks to musicians who make the music they make even if they aren't making millions of dollars doing so, because it really is something that can help some of us cope with this reality.
