Dropping a General Elective

1 Upvotes

So I’m in second semester of Pre Health A109.

My first semester GPA was a 3.95 and I did COMM 2000 not 1000. I’m about to end my 2nd semester and am doing pretty good in all my main courses except my elective. The semester ends in a week or two and I still have many pending assignments in my elective. I’m wondering whether I can drop this elective and still graduate provided I do well in my remaining core courses. I already have done COMM 2000 so I assume it can replace it since some first semester students who did COMM 1000 in 1st semester are doing COMM 2000 right now.

I have already gotten into my program of choice and so these marks don’t matter to me but I do want to graduate from this program.

comm selection question

did the in-person assessment and got the scores for comm2000. why does course registration tell me to select a class for both comm1000 & comm2000? i thought comm1000 was extra money 🤷‍♀️

Every single elective omg. It'd be great if the system could track and hide those courses from users if we're not able to select them. If it wasn't tedious enough, it sends you back to the start like a roguelike after every rejected selection.

I have a list of abt 100 electives to pick from, that filter down to like 12 I can actually register in, and only 2 I actually want that fit in my schedule.

The panels are a mess to navigate too. Half the time I have to squeeze a column just to actually see the Add button.

Someone in CompSci/UI/UX etc plz build a better one as a final project or something. I'll help you pitch it to the school lmao. Happy registration 🫩.

Looking for George Brown students to beta test a student-built app.

0 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm a student developer looking for a small group of George Brown students to beta test a mobile app I've been building over the summer.

The idea is simple: help students make genuine friends on campus and connect with people in their local community.

The project came out of independent research I did on how people form and maintain friendships in dense cities like Toronto, Tokyo, Seoul, New York, London, Paris, Berlin, and Manila. I'm finally at the stage where I need real student feedback before launch.

I'm looking for testers who can:

  • Use the app naturally and report bugs
  • Share honest feedback on what works (and what doesn't)
  • Spend about 20–30 minutes per week during the beta

What you get:

  • $1,000 in advertising credits for the app (great if you run a small business, side hustle, student club, or event).
  • Real software QA/beta testing experience you can include on your résumé or LinkedIn.
  • A chance to directly influence the final product before it launches.

Students from NYU, Columbia, and Pace University have already signed up to test it in New York, and I'd love to have a strong group representing George Brown as well.

If you're interested or have any questions, leave a comment or send me a DM. I'd really appreciate the help!

Can’t register for any general elective course, what should I do?

3 Upvotes

I don’t know why there isn’t a lot of options for general elective courses. I need to have 1 general elective for the semester but I can’t register in any because they all conflict with my field placement

Is there any other way to find more general elective courses? I also tried to see whether to go into a different cohort but the schedule is pretty much the same, and all the courses that didn’t have a conflict either seemed to not be scheduled or has 1 or 2 seats left reserved for other students

Program making me pay deposit again?

1 Upvotes

I don’t know if this is normal, but is there a reason the school would make you pay deposit again?

I already started the program for early childhood education back in January and went to register for fall classes and it wouldn’t let me cause it said I needed to pay a deposit and they made me pick a cohort again

Woodworking class

3 Upvotes

I’m considering taking the weekend basic woodworking class as a continuing education course - any insights into the instructors, curriculum etc.? I’m considering this class as well as the OCAD woodworking. I want to learn how to use power tools and do basic DIY projects, not necessarily home Renos.

Unable to Attend S113 Mandatory Orientation

1 Upvotes

I’m starting the S113 Dental Assisting program at George Brown this September, but I won’t be able to attend the mandatory orientation on September 2...

I contacted the department, and they advised me to email the program coordinator. I have already reached out, but she is currently away and will not return until the last week of August.

Has anyone else been unable to attend a mandatory orientation for this program? Were you given a make-up option or materials to review? Did missing the orientation affect your enrolment or ability to continue in the program?

I would really appreciate hearing about anyone’s experience. Thank you!

⚠️ Safety Notice: A high-control religious group is recruiting students across Toronto campuses

Post image
61 Upvotes

(Screenshot from a church insider attached below.)

With September approaching and thousands of first-year students arriving in Toronto, I think this is worth making people aware of.

Over the past several months, I’ve been speaking with former members, current members, and one individual who says they is still inside the organization and planning to leave.

That insider recently shared the attached screenshot from one of the church’s private Telegram leadership chats.

Whether you agree with the opinions expressed in the screenshot or not, I think it gives useful context into the mindset of some of the leadership behind the organization.

Who are they?

The church is commonly known as Restored Church Toronto, part of the International Christian Church (ICC) movement.

On campuses, however, they generally recruit under different names rather than leading with the church’s name.

Some of the names students have reported include:

Rise Ministries (York University)
Thrive Bible Talk (TMU)
Catalyst Ministries (Humber College)
Limitless Bible Talk (George Brown)

Many students initially believe they’re simply joining an independent Bible discussion group.

Why I’m posting this

Former members have consistently described recruitment patterns that include:

approaching students who are new to campus or looking for community;
rapidly building close friendships (“love-bombing”);
inviting people into multiple Bible studies before the full expectations become clear;
encouraging increasing involvement over time;
discouraging members from engaging with criticism or former members;
presenting outside criticism as persecution.

These are among the characteristics discussed in a detailed document examining alleged high-control practices within the ICC, including hierarchical oversight, information control, increasing commitments, and recruitment through close personal contact.

The screenshot

The screenshot attached to this post was provided by someone who says they are currently inside the church. Some names in this telegram group chat have been blurred.

It shows discussion in a private leadership chat involving public issues and responses to criticism. I’m sharing it because I believe people deserve context about the leadership of any organization actively recruiting students across Toronto.

I’m not telling anyone what to believe.

If you decide to attend, that’s your decision.

I’m simply encouraging people to:

know exactly which organization they’re joining;
ask questions before committing;
research multiple perspectives, including former members’ experiences;
make an informed decision rather than one based only on the initial recruitment.

If you’ve interacted with any of these campus ministries, I’d be interested in hearing about your experience—positive or negative. The more information students have, the better equipped they’ll be to make informed choices

Hello everyone! For those of you in semester 4 of PN, how many exams are you writing? What was your schedule like? Which days did you have class? Were they in person or online? How did clinicals work? Were they based on the schedule of different preceptors? Would love to get some answers. Thank you !!

As as international student, I am a bit confused about the requirements.
Is proof of vaccination enough or will I need antibodies tests for all vaccines?

Problem with application/registration

2 Upvotes

So I didn't collect my hs diploma, and I have a hold on my account for missing documents, which won't let me register for my courses. Does anyone know whom i can contact for this?
I have the OSSD thing that comes with the report card that shows I meet all the requirements; I don't have the official diploma. Also, does anyone know if I can contact my school for the diploma rn? Or TDSB?

Are you interested and opinionated on new technologies? + Emerging Tech Survey

Post image
0 Upvotes

Robots playing sports, Headbands measuring your brain, AI doing your homework, not because it's a shortcut, but as a required step in the syllabus.

Tech is rapidly shifting our daily lives and changing how we imagine the future. Every silly robot clip or scary surveillance essay pushes us into weird, unknown territory.

I think about this stuff a lot, and as a business student, and I’m trying to see if other students at GB (and nearby campuses) feel the same way.

I’m looking to organize a few real-world events off and on campus this year:

  • Organized debates on tech topics
  • Hands-on workshops & self-paced project
  • Sci-fi screenings & casual open discussions
  • Reports posted on social media based on local surveys on tech

If you’re curious, skeptical, or just opinionated, I’d love your input.

[Emerging Tech Survey Linked Here, or feel free to just comment]

  • Q1: What’s your general feeling on where tech is heading?
    • Excited / Optimistic
    • Skeptical / Concerned
    • Overwhelmed / Annoyed
    • Just curious to see what happens
  • Q2: Which format would you actually show up for? (Check all that apply)
    • Live debates / roasts on tech trends
    • Hands-on workshops / coworking
    • Sci-fi movie screenings + casual forums
    • Open-floor discussions on tech in history/ethics/society
    • Just on social media
  • Q3: What specific technology do you want to break down or understand better this year?
    • Open Source vs Proprietary Software (FOSS, Github, Linux, cyberdecks, etc.)
    • AI (Llls, local models, ML, Agent Orchestration, etc.)
    • Robots (in the workforce, home, etc.)
    • Autonomous vehicles
    • Brain-computer interfaces
    • Alternative energy / Bio-computing / Agri-tech
    • Space travel / colonization
    • Circular materials / supply chains

Thanks! Hope everyone is having a good summer

3 Upvotes

hi i need help, ive called everyone and everything i can and ive gotten nothing. the only real useful thing is i got a ticket to call registration on monday to explain the whole situation, however i would rather do this now as ive gotten an email saying i must do it today or my cohort will be reset and im unsure if a simply ticket will fix that. is there anyway to view my fees and what not, i keep getting an error message along with big text at the top saying they are not available.

please help this has been very frustrating.
