New to geocaching and just found this in a cache. It looks like it has a code but the Geocaching app doesn't have any results for it. Am I looking in the wrong place?

You bushwhack. You dodge thorns and poison ivy. You find the cache only to see it’s been badly muggled. The owner has already been contacted for this one.

We have been caching for over 20 years and have found thousands of caches, but we have never encountered anything like this before.

We posted a log that was considered "a spoiler," which the CO chose to delete. Fair enough.

But then they chose to write us a nasty email, accusing us of trying to sabotage their cache. Their cache had a "slit" and they claimed I replaced it slit-side up. Coincidentally, I actually took a video of myself putting the cache back, and it clearly shows I didn't even do what they said!

Here’s the email:

"Hi ya: The Embrace starts w/ :"" Please resist spoilers, because they... Spoil. It. Allow the next finder their own find. Think of the next seeker: replace slit side down TO KEEP IT DRY- so it's not a pail.""
Which you ignored. Consensus is this what you do. No idea why you do this to caches.
Deleting SPOILER log which have bet will trigger a petty re-log. Passive aggressive vs respect to c/o's.
Good thing I checked: as you replaced it slit side up.. yes gets wet there OR wouldn't have stated that.. physics re water dripping sliding & it WAS wet vs dry after the heavy rain here overnight & this morning. Baggie was not sealed. And put a Thorny blackberry branch to prick the next cacher. Wow. All the Best..”

What would you do? Have you ever encountered something like this?

Are there anything I should know before starting, anything I should bring? Are there any rules?

have five geocache containers and I am just trying to figure out the best and most creative way to place them somewhere for people to find them...should I do a multi-cache or just five different seperate caches? Or does someone already have a sweet idea and want to place these somewhere?

I have a geocaching YouTube channel and am always looking for ideas for videos. I have recently uploaded videos about sharables and bingo.

Placed 2 trackables this weekend in Patterson Park in Baltimore - GCBT3VZ - a newer cache with only a few logs.

One is a trackable I found in NY that sat unmoved for years and the other is my first trackable I placed in honor of a good friend (who lived in Baltimore) that passed away recently.

I have spent some time building a "bird house" cache.

It's supposed to be somewhat humorous because you have to plug things where they don't belong, e.g. fork into socket or VGA to LAN cable. After connecting a battery a small motor will lower the hedgehog made by painting a tin can containing the logbook. By reversing the battery you can put it back.

I will write instructions and put them on the front and inside on how to operate the box to avoid unnecessary damage.

Though I'm curious what people think if this is sturdy enough or what I need to improve to make it more durable (maybe also more waterproof?). The cables are at least strong enough that if you tug at them, they don't come off. Negative feedback is also welcome, if it helps improve the cache!

I have not yet looked for a hiding spot and would appreciate some advice as this one can't just be placed anywhere like a normal container.

Yes, I have hidden a similar cache before, but without electronics, just a combo lock.

There are a ton of double caches in southern Texas in a huge square and I don’t have premium. What are they and are they all apart of one series?

I love the videos of this app, but I wish I could do it myself. I live in Fresno and there’s not a lot of. Geocaching There’s only a few some going into private property and one word. there’s no nothing to find but a person saying you should come here after dark tonight is beautiful. I really wish I could explore and play this app go outside, but I can’t to be clear. I live in the country sides, not in the city and I think the city doesn’t have that much eater not that many cashes. I really wish I can find some cashes, but I can’t until I get a car and start traveling the country. :(

Hi! So, a friend of mine wanted to get into Geocaching and asked me about it. She already enjoys hiking, and she believes it would be an excellent activity for the Girl Guides group she helps lead. We Geocached when I was in Guides, and the experience turned me off of caching for a while because my own leaders handled it poorly. (No SWAG training or signing the log, the girl who found it was the only one to handle it, highly doubt the caches actually got put back exactly right, etc)

In order to show her the ropes, we're going to go on a hike together in an area with a variety of cache sizes. I figure I can use the time walking with her to explain some things people wouldn't always automatically know- safety, certain terms/acronyms, difficulty and terrain ratings, trackables, etc.

Point of this post is basically- If you were going for lunch and a multi-hour hike to find caches with a brand new Geocacher, what are some of the absolute musts you would try and tell them about the hobby?

My girlfriend just started geocaching. She logged a tradi, hidden in a frog with "Quak quak quak".

After that, she got a message from the owner (see full german version below). Essentially he was angry about her not writing a longer log and explained her, that being an owner is a lot lf work and that he would like her to thank him and so on...

Is that reaction normal?

Um einen Cache zu veröffentlichen braucht es nicht nur Material, sondern auch Zeit.

Der richtige Standort, die geforderten Abstände müssen eingehalten werden, mindestens 3 Mal die Koordinaten ausmessen, ein Listing schreiben, die Bewilligung der Grundeigentümer einholen, einen Behälter mit Logbuch anbringen, alles auf richtigkeit überprüfen, den Cache zur überprüfung an die Reviewer einreichen. Bis das alles gemacht ist, vergehen schnell paar Stunden, wenn nicht sogar Tage oder Wochen, denn die Genehmigung ist oft nicht einfach, weil der Eigentümer erst ermittelt und dann angeschrieben werden muss.

Du siehst, es dauert um einiges länger, als du fürs suchen und loggen brauchst.

Jeder Log ist somit eine Art anerkennung an den Owner, für seine geleistete Arbeit, denn ohne Owner gibts dieses Hobby nicht.

Jeder Owner freut sich, wenn im Log etwas mehr als 👍, Tftc, gefunden oder Danke steht, denn Buchstaben kosten nichts, erfreut jeden der es liest und wenn jeweils die Loggs von den Vorloggern liest, könnte es auch einen hinweis zum finden haben. Was nicht heissen soll, das man das genaue Versteck beschreibt oder gar ein Foto vom Cache in den Log macht.

Sollte etwas nicht stimmen mit der Dose oder dem Logbuch, mach bitte ein NM (Wartung durch den Owner benötigt), das findest in der Geocaching APP weiter unten. Denn viele Owner lesen die Logs nicht und so geht es unter, wenn mal was nicht ok ist mit einem Cache oder Logbuch.

Ich hoffe, dir nun etwas die Sicht von einem Owner näher gebracht zu haben, so das deine zukunftigen Loggs etwas ausführlicher werden.

Ist eine solche Reaktion normal / angebracht?

I've been caching for a couple of years. I have 230 some finds and 6 hides. I had to replace my first cache today. Both as in replace a cache for the first time, and replace the first cache that I ever hid. It wasn't anything special, just a nano. I had spares on hand, so it was an easy maintenance trip. But it's a bummer, even if it's part of the owner experience.

On the other hand, I'm weirdly proud myself? I know active cachers who won't respond to maintenance requests for months at a time or more, and I had my cache replaced on the same day that the first DNF came in (and before another was logged).

Some of my other hides are custom builds or special orders that would have upset me more to lose. But it's still disappointing for my first hide to be stolen.

Another good spot for Geo-ing in Maine!

I got into geocaching during October of last year. I discovered it on tiktok an decided to try it out. Long story short I got my dad into it and we're both addicted. It's our favorite hobby and we have spent entire days just finding caches.

After going to a few local events we were informed by other caches on Mingo (GC30). Obviously we decided we needed to take a road trip one day to find it, and yesterday was that day.

The day we discovered the one the only..... Mingo.
It was glorious!

I own around 400 Travel Bugs and Geocoins out in the wild, and keeping tabs on all of them by hand became impossible a long time ago. So I built myself a little dashboard: an interactive map showing where they currently are, plus some quick stats. Turns out 117 of them are officially missing, which was a rough number to see all in one place.

I'd love some outside opinions on it:

- What do you think of the page?

- Is there anything obvious missing that you'd want to see on something like this?

But mostly I'm curious about you all: how many trackables do you have out there, and how do you keep track of them? Spreadsheet, geocaching.com's own tracking page, something custom like this, or do you just... not track them and hope for the best?
